Shen Muzhi noticed that Xiang Zhilan's gaze was fixed on the watermelon in his hand, so he handed over the watermelon and spoon.
Xiang Zhilan smiled slightly, about to take the watermelon, when she suddenly stopped.
To avoid appearing spineless, he said, "I've already given it to you, how can I take it back?"
"I don't like watermelon." Shen Muzhi said, stuffing watermelon into Xiang Zhilan's hand.
Xiang Zhilan quickly held it up, saying, "Not eating watermelon in summer really shows a lack of understanding of life."
Shen Muzhi couldn't help but smile slightly. She clearly wanted to eat, but she had to pretend to be indifferent. It was really awkward. Maybe he should listen to her words in reverse in the future.
Although thinking this way is a bit like Ah Q's mentality, it makes him feel much better.
Xiang Zhilan scooped out the sweetest part from the middle and ate it first. It was icy and shaggy, and it made her feel refreshed.
"Is it delicious?" Shen Muzhi saw that she rarely looked so happy next to him, and he thought the watermelon was quite potent.
Xiang Zhilan was in a better mood, and after seeing so many small scratches on his hands, she was now a little more agreeable to him. Instead of being sarcastic, she nodded and smiled at him, a rare occurrence for her: "This is my first watermelon this year."
Shen Muzhi glanced at the watermelon in her hand, reached out and took her hand, scooped out a spoonful, lowered his head and ate the slice, chewing it once: "It's quite sweet."
Xiang Zhilan didn't expect him to move so quickly; the back of her hand still retained the warmth of his palm.
She looked down at the spoon he had used, her hand frozen, not moving again. She didn't want to share a spoon with him.
Shen Muzhi saw through Xiang Zhilan's thoughts, got up and went to the kitchen to get her a new spoon to replace it.
Xiang Zhilan silently lowered her head and continued to scoop out watermelon with a spoon, at which point Shen Muzhi also came to scoop out watermelon with a spoon.
She watched as Shen Muzhi used the spoon she had used to scoop out watermelon and ate it with relish, and felt a little awkward, so she said, "Didn't you say you didn't like watermelon?"
"Times have changed." This was the first time Shen Muzhi had ever felt that watermelon was so sweet.
Xiang Zhilan, however, felt that sharing a watermelon was something only very close people could do; neither she nor her parents had ever done it. It was a bit like a couple in a coffee shop sharing a drink through two straws.
Such intimacy made her very uncomfortable. She shifted her position, moving further away from Shen Muzhi, and silently dug out food to eat.
As Shen Muzhi watched her silently reject him, the sweetness of the watermelon in his mouth disappeared. He lowered his hand holding the spoon and stared at her profile.
Xiang Zhilan ate two spoonfuls and felt Shen Muzhi's gaze. She turned her head to look at him and saw that his eyes seemed to be accusing her of monopolizing the watermelon.
"Here you go, here you go, it's all yours." Xiang Zhilan was a little annoyed. She stuffed the watermelon into Shen Muzhi's hand, stood up, and walked out.
She certainly wasn't upset about a watermelon; rather, she felt that staying any longer would sway Shen Muzhi.
On their wedding day, he clearly didn't care much about her and the child, so why is he acting all lovey-dovey now? First, he said he couldn't live without her, then he moved across the street from her, always had her slippers ready at home, and even secretly practiced his cooking skills, hanging around her every day.
Even if she were a stone, it would be impossible for her to feel nothing at all.
But she was unwilling to forgive him just like that.
She felt her current life was good and didn't want to go back to that villa, nor did she want things to be out of her control.
Moreover, how long can Shen Muzhi sustain what he's doing?
