Xiang Zhilan slept straight through to 3 p.m.
I was a little groggy from sleep. I sat on the bed in a daze for a while after waking up before I slowly came to my senses.
Her stomach was rumbling; she'd become hungrier since becoming pregnant, and suddenly she really wanted to eat Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles.
She got out of bed, smoothed her hair, and went outside.
Hearing the noise, Shen Muzhi hung up the phone, came out of the study, and looked at Xiang Zhilan, saying, "You're awake. Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?"
Xiang Zhilan nodded and said, "I want to eat Lao Xiang Ji's Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles."
Lao Xiang Ji is located in the north of the city and does not offer delivery service. It takes at least forty minutes to get there, and even if he wanted to go and get some, the rice noodles would be mushy.
Shen Muzhi glanced at Xiang Zhilan's clothes, realizing they were inconvenient for going out, and said, "Wait a moment."
He took his wallet downstairs, bought an outfit from a mannequin in a clothing store window, quickly returned home, and shoved the bag into Xiang Zhilan's hand.
Xiang Zhilan looked down and opened it, then looked up at him in surprise.
"Hurry up and change, I'll take you out to eat." Shen Muzhi was still a little out of breath; he had run back especially because he was afraid she would get impatient.
Xiang Zhilan withdrew her gaze and went to the bathroom to change her clothes.
Long dresses and sandals are especially refreshing to wear in early summer.
She walked out, still feeling a little unaccustomed to it. After all, she had been wearing long sleeves all autumn, winter and spring, and suddenly she was wearing sleeveless, feeling a little shy about showing her arms.
"Let's go." Shen Muzhi took her hand and led her outside.
Xiang Zhilan awkwardly pulled her hand back, "I can walk by myself."
She lowered her head, quickly walked past him, opened the door, and went out.
Shen Muzhi withdrew his empty hand, put it in his pocket, and walked out with a slightly gloomy expression.
On the way to Lao Xiang Ji, Xiang Zhilan felt that Shen Muzhi seemed angry, but she didn't know what he was angry about.
About forty minutes later, the car stopped, and Xiang Zhilan got out of the car. Just as she was about to walk inside, Shen Muzhi grabbed her hand.
Xiang Zhilan tried to pull back, but couldn't. Shen Muzhi led her inside.
She finally understood what he had been angry about the whole way. It was just that he didn't want to hold her hand. Was it really necessary to be so upset? What a petty man.
"Two servings of signature Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles, slightly spicy, a plate of braised peanuts, a serving of smashed cucumber, and a pot of plum juice," Xiang Zhilan ordered without even looking at the menu.
After she finished ordering, she glanced at Shen Muzhi and asked, "Is everything alright?"
Shen Muzhi nodded. He looked at Zhi Lan and noticed that her tastes had changed quite a bit, now including both spicy and sour flavors. Perhaps she was pregnant with twins.
"You should try some too. Their plum juice is specially made." Xiang Zhilan took a glass and poured him a glass as well.
Shen Muzhi lowered his head and took a sip; the taste was acceptable.
"Is it delicious?" Xiang Zhilan asked, seeking approval.
"Hmm." He nodded. He basically doesn't eat this kind of thing even when he eats out.
He's a clean freak and always thinks things are unhygienic, but she seemed to like it a lot, so naturally he wouldn't say anything to spoil the mood.
Two plates of cold dishes and two bowls of rice noodles were served quickly.
Xiang Zhilan had to abstain from certain foods for the first 12 weeks, so she hadn't eaten these for a long time. She couldn't wait to eat them after they were served.
Seeing that she seemed to like beef, Shen Muzhi picked out all the beef from his bowl and gave it to her.
Xiang Zhilan looked up and smiled at him, then looked down and continued eating her rice noodles while blowing on the air.
Seeing how happily she was eating, Shen Muzhi slowly began to eat as well.
