Ni Sitian sat blankly in Xu Tingchuan's leather chair, recalling all the previous details, and the more she thought about it, the more she could connect the dots.
Xu Tingchuan had laid the groundwork long ago by saying that it didn't matter if they didn't have children; it turned out that it was all for her sake.
He would rather take the blame himself than let her know and put pressure on her.
He always said she was stupid. How could he be so stupid? How could he take the blame for something like that?
Is it because she's afraid her family will ask, so she can say it's his own problem and no one will hold her accountable?
Ni Sitian frowned, closed her eyes, bit her lower lip, and lay down on the table.
She still felt a little unreal; she was only twenty-two years old, how could she have such a problem?
She always felt that she was in good health, except for occasional menstrual cramps.
Could it be a false alarm? This recipe might not actually be hers, right? And these business cards—maybe they're for someone else?
Ni Sitian's brows furrowed deeper as she tried to convince herself with these words, yet she knew full well that such an idea was far-fetched. All the previous signs indicated that Xu Tingchuan had been laying the groundwork all along.
He also asked her in detail about the cause of her cold uterus. When he heard it, his face turned terribly grim, probably because he knew that Ni Ziqi had harmed her...
"Sitian." Xu Tingchuan walked into the house, changed into slippers, and called out when he felt the house was quiet.
Upon hearing Xu Tingchuan's voice, Ni Sitian abruptly raised her head.
Xu Tingchuan had already opened the study door, and his eyes met Ni Sitian's.
Seeing that her eyes were a little red, he quickly went inside. "What's wrong?"
Ni Sitian looked at Xu Tingchuan, and when she opened her mouth, her lips trembled again: "Xu Tingchuan, is there anything very important you're hiding from me?"
Xu Tingchuan was slightly taken aback. Seeing her pale face, a bad premonition arose within him.
He glanced at the few business cards scattered on the table, and then at Ni Sitian's expression. He understood immediately that things couldn't be kept secret any longer; she already knew.
He had been hesitant about telling her about this recently, but now that she knows, he can no longer hide it from her.
Xu Tingchuan walked around to her, pulled her into his arms, and said, "You didn't abandon me when you misunderstood me, and I felt the same way."
Ni Sitian had already guessed that there was this part in his plan, in order to prevent her from leaving him because of guilt, and also to show her that he would not despise her for this reason.
"Are you an idiot? How could you lie like that?!" She hugged his waist, her voice choked with emotion. "How could you be so foolish? How long do you intend to carry this burden for me?"
Xu Tingchuan gently stroked her long hair and said softly, "This is not a burden. This is originally a matter between the two of us. Whether or not we have children is our business, not just yours."
"It's clearly all my fault." Ni Sitian's heart ached terribly as she sobbed, "It's because I can't let you have our child, it's because I can't get pregnant, it's all my fault..."
"When you misunderstood me before, did you ever blame me like this in your heart?" Xu Tingchuan felt sad when he heard her cry.
Ni Sitian shook her head. At that time, she only felt sorry for him and couldn't bear to touch his nerves in that regard.
“Me too.” Xu Tingchuan lifted Ni Sitian’s face, gently wiped away her tears, and whispered, “Shall we face and solve this together?”
