After finishing her examination, Ni Sitian walked out with her shoulders slumped and her eyes lifeless.
She didn't notice Ni Ziqi and the others, and walked out of the hospital in a daze, hailing a taxi.
The driver asked her where she was going, but she didn't even know what she answered.
Standing in front of the M&K building, she suddenly realized that in her most distressed and helpless moment, the person she instinctively wanted to see was Xu Tingchuan.
Unlike her previous visits, she didn't need anyone to guide her; she walked smoothly into the private elevator, which led directly to the president's office.
There weren't many people in the office today, and Ni Sitian spotted Xue Zhichun, who was heavily pregnant and carrying a stack of folders, at a glance.
She quickly went over and helped her with some of the documents, saying, "You haven't taken maternity leave yet? Your due date is this month, isn't it?"
"Thank you, Madam." Xue Zhichun smiled and said, "It's the end of the month. I've already submitted a leave slip to HR. I'll be going back to prepare for childbirth next week."
Ni Sitian and Xue Zhichun walked into Xu Tingchuan's office carrying folders. Xue Zhichun asked Ni Sitian if she wanted something to drink.
“I should be the one asking you what you want to drink,” Ni Sitian said, looking at her large pregnant belly.
Xue Zhichun smiled, told Ni Sitian to sit down, and went out to work.
Ni Sitian's smile gradually faded. Time really flies. She wasn't even pregnant when she first met Secretary Xue, and now she's about to give birth. Her life has entered a new phase, but she hasn't changed much from before.
Just as Ni Sitian was feeling dejected, a sudden exclamation came from outside, followed by a cacophony of shouts.
She got up and walked out in confusion, and saw Secretary Xue lying on the ground with two streams of blood flowing down to her calves.
"Ambulance!" Several colleagues gathered around, and someone called for emergency medical assistance.
They made a racket as they escorted the person downstairs, and Ni Sitian hurriedly followed.
The ambulance arrived quickly. Ni Sitian told her employees to go back to work first, and she accompanied Xue Zhichun into the ambulance.
They rushed to the hospital and Ni Sitian watched her go into the operating room.
Not long after, Xue Zhichun's husband arrived, looking flustered and sweating profusely, his tie wrapped around his neck. He grabbed the nurse and asked about Xue Zhichun's condition.
Ni Sitian went over and told Xue Zhichun's husband what had just happened, and asked him to go register first.
Half an hour passed quickly. The mother was bleeding heavily and needed a blood transfusion. Ni Sitian watched the nurse take the two large bags of blood inside and felt worried for Secretary Xue.
Two more emergency rescue notices followed, and the mother was in mortal danger.
Ni Sitian faced the wall, her hands clasped tightly together, silently praying for the safety of herself and her child.
Xue Zhichun's husband had told her she could leave first, but she was too worried and waited outside the operating room for two hours.
When Xue Zhichun was wheeled out, his face was deathly pale and he looked extremely weak.
Thankfully, the doctor said that both mother and baby are safe, but the baby was born half a month premature and will need to stay in the incubator for a few days.
Seeing that Secretary Xue's husband was with her in the ward, Ni Sitian decided not to disturb him and left the ward to go to the nursery.
Through the large glass wall of the nursery, she saw tiny, soft creatures, all newborn lives. They all looked exactly alike; it was truly magical.
Perhaps because they were just born, none of them had opened their eyes yet, and their hands were all clenched into fists. Those little fists were even cuter than a kitten's paws.
