Meanwhile, Ni Sitian saw Xu Tingchuan hang up the phone and asked anxiously, "How is it? Is Jiayue with Pei Yang?"
Xu Tingchuan nodded. Although Pei Yang said on the phone that he wasn't there, he knew that Jia Yue must have been behind it. Pei Yang's voice paused for a second just now, which clearly meant that Jia Yue didn't want them to know where she was.
"That's good." Ni Sitian breathed a sigh of relief. At least it meant they were safe with Pei Yang, which put their minds at ease.
Xu Tingchuan rubbed his temples, started the car, and drove home.
Ni Sitian reached out and gently patted the back of his hand, saying softly, "It's okay, don't worry, Jiayue won't do anything foolish."
Xu Tingchuan nodded, but his expression remained heavy.
After dropping Ni Sitian off at home, he still felt uneasy and couldn't help but drive to Pei Yang's villa.
When they arrived at Pei Yang's house, they hesitated about whether to go in.
Pei Yang saw this from the balcony, then went downstairs and opened the door for Xu Tingchuan.
When Xu Tingchuan went inside, he saw that Xu Jiayue's shoes were still in the entryway, and he knew that he was right.
Pei Yang didn't expect to be able to hide it from Xu Tingchuan. After letting him in, he asked, "What are you two up to? What did you do to upset her? She got up early this morning to drink and cried twice."
Xu Tingchuan didn't know how to answer Pei Yang's question, so he simply asked, "Is she alright now?"
"It's quiet now. She's sleeping upstairs. Do you want to go up and see her?" Pei Yang pointed upwards.
Xu Tingchuan shook his head, relieved to know she was alright. He figured she was probably in a bad mood and didn't really want to see him. He'd just have to wait until she calmed down.
"I'm entrusting Jia Yue to your care for a while. If anything goes wrong, please call me immediately," Xu Tingchuan said.
"Don't worry, I treat Jiayue like my own sister, I'll take good care of her." Pei Yang nodded.
Xu Tingchuan patted him on the shoulder and turned to leave.
Having confirmed Jia Yue's safety with Pei Yang, he decided not to linger, lest Jia Yue discover him.
He left Pei Yang's villa, walked to the parking area, got into his car, and started the engine.
Xu Jiayue stood by the window, watching Xu Tingchuan's car drive away, her hand tightly gripping the curtains.
Pei Yang walked up and saw Xu Jiayue standing there. He knocked on the door and said, "I didn't tell him you were here. It's just that your brother is too smart."
Xu Jiayue withdrew her gaze and said in a low, strained voice, "He's not my brother."
Pei Yang was slightly taken aback, then frowned: "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Xu Jiayue lowered her head and didn't explain. Let him take it as her talking nonsense. She lay down on the bed and covered her head with the quilt.
Seeing this, Pei Yang left the room to let her rest.
After Xu Tingchuan drove off, he felt very annoyed. He had already smoked half of the pack of cigarettes that Ni Sitian had bought for him.
When he went to get it again, he thought of Ni Sitian's appearance and didn't smoke it anymore.
He was just about to drive home when Assistant Yu called.
Upon hearing the report, he frowned, immediately turned the steering wheel, changed the route, and went to the company.
Several managers in the company were there to greet him in the lobby. He walked toward the private elevator, with everyone following behind. Assistant Yu was half a step behind and continued, "The tax bureau has issued a notice that they will conduct a thorough audit of the company's accounts for the past five years starting Monday. I have already notified the finance and accounting department to work overtime."
Xu Tingchuan waved his hand, saying that this was not the point. He frowned and said directly, "How could the renderings for the Science and Technology City bidding have been leaked?"
