“Your father, your father he…” He Cuiyun’s cheeks trembled as she couldn’t continue speaking. She took out the medical record from her bag and handed it to Ni Sitian.
Ni Sitian opened the report and quickly browsed through it. The doctor's handwriting was all in a flamboyant style, but she understood the final diagnosis on one of the test results: uremia.
She looked up in surprise and panic, and asked urgently, "Are these the results just out?"
He Cuiyun nodded, crying as she said, "The doctor said I need a kidney transplant, what am I going to do?"
Ni Sitian's face paled slightly. She looked at Ni Qianshan and said, "Dad, why are you still outside? Come in quickly."
"Whether you die sooner or later, you're going to die anyway, there's no difference. It's better to die of illness than to be beaten to death." Ni Qianshan looked despairing and bleak.
Ni Sitian didn't understand what she meant, but she ignored everything else for the time being and forcefully pulled Ni Qianshan toward the hospital, saying, "No matter what, you have to see a doctor first."
He Cuiyun and Ni Ziqi also lent a hand and helped get Ni Qianshan back to his ward.
After comforting Ni Qianshan to lie down, Ni Sitian looked at He Cuiyun and asked, "What exactly happened? Why did you say things like you were hacked to death?"
"It's all because of you!" Ni Ziqi bit her lip, glared at Ni Sitian, and said, "If you had been willing to lend that two million back then, Dad wouldn't have had to borrow two million from loan sharks to keep the company running. Now the company has collapsed, and the loan sharks are compounding their interest, demanding that we pay back two and a half million."
Ni Sitian stared wide-eyed in astonishment, "Dad, you went to borrow money from loan sharks?!"
Ni Qianshan nodded, looking utterly despondent, muttering to himself, "This money was borrowed by me alone. I'm about to die, so it won't be a burden to you."
“Old Ni, what are you saying? We’re family, we won’t abandon you. Are you going to just watch you die?” He Cuiyun started wiping away tears again.
Ni Sitian's head was throbbing from crying. With uremia and high-interest loans, where was she going to get the money?
"Ni Sitian, you don't really want to abandon Dad, do you?" Ni Ziqi immediately accused her when she didn't respond.
"Dad, no matter what, get him treated first." Ni Sitian did some mental calculations. She would receive the mid-term payment for the script at the end of the month, which, together with the previous payments, would amount to five or six hundred thousand yuan. The final payment would be received when the drama aired, probably at the end of the year.
With the money she has now, she can focus on treating her illness and finding a way to exchange it for cash; that should be enough. As for high-interest loans, she can only postpone that for now and think of a solution later. She will discuss it with Tingchuan when she gets back tonight.
"Xu Tingchuan is so rich, you wouldn't be forbidding him from managing Dad's loan sharking, would you?" Ni Ziqi judged him with a petty mind.
"Shut up." Seeing that Ni Qianshan was sick, Ni Sitian didn't want to argue with Ni Ziqi from the beginning, but Ni Ziqi kept pushing all the responsibility onto her. She said angrily, "If it weren't for you asking me to do that project, would things have turned out like this? I don't know if you and your senior were colluding to swindle money and exaggerating the project so much."
“Ni Sitian, what right do you have to criticize me? I’m just trying to do what’s best for Dad! And you? You married a rich man and never help the family at all, not even a penny of alimony. What’s wrong with Dad having ambitions to earn more money?!” Ni Ziqi retorted.
Ni Sitian was furious. Ni Qianshan was clearly a person with very limited abilities. It was one thing for him to do a sinecure, but Ni Ziqi made it sound nice that she encouraged him to start a company. Wasn't it just that she wanted to be a rich girl herself?
