Chapter 34
Ah Hu's head was still a little dizzy. He propped himself up and sat up. It took him a long time to meet the three-petal man's gaze. He replied vaguely, "Yeah."
The three-petal man's lips moved, and he ignored Ah Hu's cold expression and plunged his head into the other's arms. Jiang Xiangyang caught a glimpse of the other's eyes at the moment when he lowered his head.
Ah Hu's palm finally rested on the three-petal man's back, and his strong arms wrapped around the trembling man. Both of them were covered with a circle of mud and dust, and there were dead leaves in their hair, but the scene in front of them did not look abrupt.
Jiang Xiangyang felt that he had finally done something right.
After an unknown amount of time, he heard the sound of stumbling footsteps. Jiang Xiangyang looked up and saw the young man Heitu with a look of surprise in his eyes. Heitu met Ah Hu's gaze, rubbed his eyes, and rubbed them again and again until they were red. It was impossible to tell whether the tears in his eyes were rubbed out or fell naturally.
The three-petal man also stood up and looked over, his red eyes inexplicably matching the boy's.
Jiang Xiangyang pulled the little ball aside, leaving space for the three of them to reminisce about the past.
After moving a little further away, the little ball said, "They know each other."
Jiang Xiangyang hummed, sorting out the information he had so far. The relationship between the three people became clear. "Ah Hu said that the pattern on his forehead was painted after he was injured. He is equivalent to a second-level warrior in the tribe. The Gena tribe probably wouldn't be willing to take him as a tribute."
Little Ball: "So he volunteered to help Heitu and his brother Aying?"
Jiang Xiangyang: "Yeah."
The little ball was stunned for a long time, and finally rubbed Jiang Xiangyang's palm: "Yangyang, I don't know why, but this is more touching than what I saw on TV."
Jiang Xiangyang thought for a moment and said, "Maybe it's because it's more realistic."
Little Ball didn't cry this time, but the electronic voice was a little depressed: "Can I record this?"
Jiang Xiangyang patted its head and said, "Go ask them later."
When Jiang Xiangyang went over again, the three of them had already calmed down and the scene was extremely harmonious. The young boy Heitu hung on the three-petal man like a koala, rubbing here and touching there, as if checking whether the person in front of him was real. The three-petal man raised his eyebrows and wanted to scold him, but in the end he didn't say it out loud. Instead, Ah Hu picked up the boy and threw him aside, and scared him into silence with the words "the wound has not healed yet".
Seeing Jiang Xiangyang coming, Ah Hu's expression immediately changed. If he was just respectful before, now he was full of gratitude: "Sir."
Jiang Xiangyang took a look at the scars on the three-petal man's body. Although they were not fatal and the surface wounds had already healed, most of the injuries were internal to the body. He could not do much activity in a short period of time. It would be best to find a place to settle down and rest well.
He turned his gaze away and looked at Ah Hu in front of him: "What are you going to do next?"
Ah Hu placed his hands on his chest and said, "I have sworn to God that I am willing to serve you for my whole life. As for them..." Ah Hu looked back and pleaded through gritted teeth, "Please give me some time, sir. Once I have arranged a place for them to live, I will come back and serve you like a slave."
The Gena tribe certainly can’t go back, but Ah Hu is really worried about the three-petal man’s current condition.
Jiang Xiangyang didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "I don't need you to serve me for life, nor do I need you to work like a slave for me. Okay, okay, don't show that expression. I'm not planning on abandoning you. Why do you think I'm stopping here?"
Ah Hu put away his panicked expression and looked around. This place was close to the mountain wall, with a lot of gravel and weeds. After a while, Ah Hu understood Jiang Xiangyang's intention. Looking at him, a light with mist in his eyes flashed: "Sir..."
Before the other person could burst into tears, Jiang Xiangyang said, "If you hadn't told me on the way back that this place was suitable for hiding, I wouldn't have chosen to land here in the first place. It's all thanks to you."
Ah Hu didn't say anything. The favors he owed Jiang Xiangyang were countless and could not be expressed simply in words.
Each major tribe would choose to set up camp in the forest with rich resources. Adults did not often come here, but the children of the tribe would occasionally come back to explore and play. The place was relatively safe. Ah Hu carried the disabled Sanban man on his back to explore the way in front, Jiang Xiangyang walked in the middle, and the boy followed behind like a little tail.
When Jiang Xiangyang turned his head, he found that the boy's gaze was not only on the three-petal man, but there was also a wisp of light floating around him.
The cave they found was at a corner of the road. Ah Hu went in and settled the three-petal man, then asked Jiang Xiangyang for permission to leave and go outside to find food. The three-petal man fainted again due to excessive blood loss. Heitu squatted aside, holding the bloody fist of the three-petal man and was silent for a long time. Then Ah Hu followed his footsteps and walked out of the cave quietly.
Jiang Xiangyang did not stop Heitu from leaving. He walked to the side of the three-petal man, took out the spray, and healed all the skin injuries, big and small.
All records about herbal medicine had disappeared, and there was not a single piece of information left in the database prepared by Xiao Yuanqiu. Jiang Xiangyang looked at the heaving chest of the three-petal man and felt like he had no idea where to start, after all, he was not from the medical department.
I remember that the instructor had taught me some methods of first aid, but none of them were applicable to the current situation. Ah Hu said that the three-petal man had a very strong body, and that all the injured people in the tribe were like this, so we just had to leave him alone.
Jiang Xiangyang couldn't just sit there and do nothing, but he really couldn't do anything.
Sitting against the wall of the school, holding the pager in his hand, Jiang Xiangyang looked up in a daze. The little ball pulled at Jiang Xiangyang's hair and played with it until he hissed in pain. He angrily pulled the little guy down and flicked his forehead as punishment.
The little ball felt no pain and rubbed his forehead with his paws, pretending to be innocent: "What are you thinking about, Yangyang?"
Jiang Xiangyang pursed his lips tightly. After a moment, he uttered a few bewildered words, "I've been wondering why, with so many talented people in the league, I'm the only one who encountered this kind of...adventure? It should be considered an adventure, I guess."
The little ball blinked: "Because Yangyang has me."
Jiang Xiangyang smiled and rubbed its head: "Well, because of you, the message can be transmitted to the new planet." As he spoke, he somehow fell silent again.
The young man holding him seemed to be stuck in some kind of vicious circle. The little ball tickled Jiang Xiangyang's clothes: "Yangyang?"
"Do you think they can see the videos and pictures we sent them?" Jiang Xiangyang said in a low voice. "I've thought about it carefully. Even if they send them, it doesn't seem to change anything."
"How could that be?" Little Ball held onto his finger. "Since Yangyang has been able to persevere for so many years because of his father's words, then these practical things must be able to bring more meaning to the people of Xinqiu."
Jiang Xiangyang's eyes flickered slightly, as if something flashed in them: "Little G, do you know why the current pioneers are not equipped with mechas and cannot leave the three-line track?"
The little ball asked: "Because it's unsafe?"
Jiang Xiangyang nodded, then shook his head and said, "Because even if we leave and discover a new planet suitable for human habitation, humans won't be able to migrate again in the short term... More likely, we won't be able to do so in the future."
The little ball let out a small cry.
He lowered his gaze. The voice echoing in the cave was as ethereal as smoke. It was the language of the new planet, and also the language of ancient Earth. It had endured thousands of years of history, remaining unchanged. "In the hearts of mankind, our homeland is still that beautiful blue planet. It is the most suitable and ideal place for human survival. Following the information left by our ancestors, humans search for planets to reside on. In reality, they are searching for the Earth that once was."
"But the harsh reality is staring us in the face: insufficient resources, a survival crisis, declining fertility... all of this obsession is nothing more than an unrealistic dream, shattered at the slightest touch."
Jiang Xiangyang buried his head in his arms, his voice getting smaller and smaller, but the little ball could not find words to comfort him. Its program was set to be solely loyal to its owner, and it could not synchronize with Jiang Xiangyang's feelings as a native of Earth towards this group of people.
But the little ball soon found that his worries were unnecessary.
"But it doesn't matter." Less than ten seconds after lowering his head, Jiang Xiangyang raised his head again. The gentle and peaceful arc in his eyes remained the same, as if a cluster of sparks had fallen into them, and the light was rekindled, shining brightly. "Who said that humans can't have dreams?"
Who says humans can’t have dreams?
This sentence, transmitted along a complex web of electronic circuits, was carried out in two different ways. At the end of one line, a man sitting upright in a chair raised his eyelids and listened to the clear, youthful voice on the radio. An ambiguous look flashed across his eyes, seemingly indifferent, yet containing a barely audible interest.
At the other end of the line, everyone in the meeting perked up their ears and raised their gazes to the large screen that had lit up again. The young man on the screen smiled brightly, his lips parted as he spoke with unwavering determination: "Who said that we can't have hope when we're in the dark abyss?"
This time the connection was very short, so short that the people in the conference room only had time to hear these two sentences before the image went out again.
They were left to ponder the meaning of the young man's words, unable to calm down for a long time.
"Commander..." the Chief of Staff mumbled, returning to the previous discussion. "How should we deal with those rumors that have been spreading online?"
The commander looked away and sat back in his seat, his hands folded, his elbows resting on the table, his eyes fixed on the report in front of him.
"The Alliance has found a new planet to colonize." "The people of the new planet will migrate again." "The live broadcast that happened a few days ago is a state secret. The Alliance is carrying out a secret plan that will benefit all of humanity."
The chief of staff asked tentatively, "Should we continue to suppress it?"
"No." The commander closed his eyes. "We'll tell you what the facts are."
This was different from the original decision, and everyone present looked surprised.
"That's a good move. Using the Alliance's name, they didn't push the issue, but instead spread it across the internet in less than ten minutes. It's clear there's an organized plan. They've hired someone to thoroughly investigate this matter," the commander said. "Public opinion is already heated. We can't wait until people's expectations reach peak levels before knocking them down. If a large number of people die in the pit of their dreams, who will be willing to fight for the future of humanity?"
The gentlemanly villain sat next to him, his hands on the table, looking like he wanted to refute, but in the end he withdrew his hands and said nothing.
"Since they've generated this kind of public opinion, we can counter it and make those who are just trying to make trouble go home empty-handed."
"Letting everyone know about our current situation may cause panic among the people, but with good guidance, it may also be an opportunity to inspire all the people of the new planet to strive for excellence."
The conference room was silent, with only the commander's voice echoing in the air, tinged with a smile: "People should have dreams. Who says that if you are in a dark abyss, you can't have hope?"
