Chapter 5【Catching Bugs】

Chapter 5【Catching Bugs】

Leaving the central street and driving out of the avenue, Jiang Xiangyang's destination was an experimental base in a remote area.

It is called an experimental base, but most of the experimental equipment and instruments inside have been scrapped and have been piled up in a corner that no one cares about. They are covered with a thick layer of dust. The small part of their use that has continued to this day is that the staff occasionally take them out to use as table legs when they remember them, and the sturdy ones can be used as hammers to smash door panels.

Fortunately, the most precious things inside were kept.

Although the base is located in a remote area, it is not necessarily deserted. When Jiang Xiangyang arrived, it was lunchtime, and there were still more than a dozen people crowded in the hall. They were led in one by one by the staff, and the security seemed very strict.

Of course, some people got impatient after waiting for so long. As Jiang Xiangyang approached, he happened to hear the last person complaining, "Isn't it just going out to mine a meteorite? It's more troublesome than applying for a mecha."

The staff member was in the process of registering people. Upon hearing this, he looked up, adjusted his glasses, and looked over indifferently with his eyes as if they were shining with a sharp light reflected from a mirror.

The series of facial expressions, meticulously portrayed, made the entire queue tense up. The person who had spoken subconsciously shut up, trying to hide himself in the crowd. However, the staff member didn't even glance at him, and said to Jiang Xiangyang as he walked over, "Are you here? Come in."

"Wait a minute." The same person said unconvincedly, "Why doesn't he have to queue?"

The staff member swiped across a fictitious page on the micro-client, seemingly switching to a spreadsheet, and slowly wrote down Jiang Xiangyang's name: "He's an insider."

"You must be joking! She's obviously a student and she hasn't even taken off her school uniform yet!"

"I'm an adult, not a child laborer."

Everyone: “…” Is this the point?!

"and."

The staff member changed the subject and slid out a form from his hand.

The form expanded into three pages, almost enough to cover an adult man in the middle. From top to bottom, from left to right, fluorescent blue electronic light outlined the same three words, densely filling the entire form.

Looking at the names on it, everyone present was surprised. After deeply understanding the meaning of the names, they were even more speechless.

The staff member tapped his electronic watch and said, "If you can be like him and serve as an unpaid volunteer here for three consecutive years, we will also welcome you to join this industry with firecrackers."

Everyone at the scene remained silent without any prior agreement.

Most of them came here because they heard that the base was going to increase their salaries, and they happened to be short of money recently, so they came here to earn some extra money. Normally speaking, no one would be willing to work in this industry, let alone just come here to be an unpaid volunteer.

It is recognized by people across the league as the most dangerous, arduous and thankless profession.

They thought of the young man who had just hurried past, and couldn't help but wonder: What kind of perseverance and persistence could allow the other party to persist for three whole years?

Someone else mentioned weakly, "I think I've seen that school uniform before... Is it Hilda's student?"

"Hmm, I think his name is, Jiang Xiangyang?"

Jiang Xiangyang had no idea what had happened in the hall. The locker room was not far away, so he turned in with ease. There was only one kind of clothing in the locker room, and that was a space suit.

Today's space suits are not as thick and bulky as before. After thousands of years of research and improvement by scientists, and made from the most resilient plant fibers on the new planet, they are now as light and comfortable as casual clothes. Jiang Xiangyang quickly put them on and walked into the base.

Generally, research bases become more spacious as you go deeper into the building, but this one becomes narrower as you go deeper, like a closed one-way passage. Jiang Xiangyang met a few acquaintances on the way and greeted them.

"Aren't you curious about why so many people were suddenly recruited here?" The acquaintance asked Jiang Xiangyang, hooking his arm around his shoulder.

Jiang Xiangyang asked doubtfully, "Aren't there usually about a dozen?"

"Those aren't all." Another person pointed inside and pursed his lips. "More than 30 people have already gone in."

"So many?" Jiang Xiangyang was also surprised.

"The boss hired them with a quick buck. The pay is three times higher than usual. Who wouldn't want to come?"

"What happened?"

"An unidentified object has invaded a new planet, but it's moving so fast that our satellites can only pick up its shadow; we can't even discern its exact trajectory." At this point, the man's expression grew more serious. "No one knows what it is, or whether it poses any danger. The boss has received instructions from above to keep a close eye on it and see if we can find any clues to investigate."

A vague image flashed through his mind, and Jiang Xiangyang felt as if he had grasped something, but also as if he had grasped nothing.

Others were relieved and said, "Luckily, the other party has left the third track. We are only responsible for finding the things and don't need to confront them head-on."

Putting those thoughts aside, Jiang Xiangyang nodded in agreement. Rather than fighting with an unknown cosmic creature until the end of time, he would rather quietly knock down meteorites.

Although the actual work to be done is much more complicated than knocking off a meteorite.

After checking his physical condition, Jiang Xiangyang came to a platform. A robotic arm extended from the wall, holding several devices. Jiang Xiangyang picked up one of the button-like objects and called out Xiao G who was on standby.

"Yangyang." Little G clung to his arm, his vertical electronic eyes turning into two short horizontal lines that closed above and below him, looking drowsy and still half asleep. "Even if I take a picture, no one will see it."

However, the other party did not speak, but just pressed the button and put the back of it on the back of his hand. The other end emitted light and merged into Xiao G's body.

Little G shook his ears helplessly.

After putting on the other equipment, he clicked the red button on the left side of the space suit, and the oxygen mask was automatically generated. Looking at the little guy who was feeling suffocated, Jiang Xiangyang smiled and rubbed its head, lifted the little guy onto his shoulders, and walked towards the bright side of the platform.

Little G asked again: "Yangyang, why do you like to open up new land?"

"have no idea."

Standing at the teleportation location, the scattered halo suddenly intensified. When I opened my eyes and blinked again, the scene was completely different.

The galaxy is vast and boundless, with streaks of red light cutting through the edges, so bright that it dazzles the eyes.

The close-fitting space suit perfectly outlines the curves of Jiang Xiangyang's body. Jiang Xiangyang leaps forward, stretching his limbs like a nimble and graceful cheetah, his laughter suppressed in the oxygen mask.

"I like it. I just like it."
