Chapter 21 I Promise You to Let Go

Chapter 21 I Promise You to Let Go

When Zhu Yanshi opened his eyes in a daze, he could clearly feel the softness pressing under his face.

He blinked in confusion, his gaze meeting Xu Jun's.

"You've been asleep for 40 minutes..."

The man had a smile on his face, and the glasses on his nose made his smile even more gentle.

Zhu Yanshi sat up straight.

“Sorry, sorry…”

"Did it hurt your hand?"

Speak hastily.

Xu Jun shook his head: "It's okay... shall we continue?"

His hands hanging under the desk were turning gently. He didn't want to embarrass the other person, so he could only stretch his muscles secretly.

Time passed minute by minute, and Xu Jun's cell phone on the table began to vibrate violently again. He put down his pen and answered the call.

The voice on the other end of the phone was urgent, and Zhu Yanshi could not hear clearly what was said. He could only judge the seriousness of the matter by the expression on the man's face.

Xu Jun's brows were tightly furrowed, and his fingers gripping the phone tightened. Even though he tried hard to control his emotions, he still couldn't suppress the collapse in his heart.

This was the second time Xu Jun lost face since the two of them started dating.

He didn't reply, but after talking a lot over there, he replied with a single word.

"good."

After the phone call ended, Xu Jun sat in the chair without moving. He turned his head and his eyes fell quietly on Zhu Yanshi's face.

"I have to go to the hospital..."

"Is something wrong?" Zhu Yanshi stood up and put the books on his desk into his backpack.

"Shall I go with you?"

The boy's voice was very soft, but it was carried by the wind and Xu Jun could hear it clearly.

His eyelashes trembled rapidly, and then he looked up in a trance, his eyes falling on Zhu Yanshi's face.

It didn't move away for a long time.

"Why are you..."

Before Xu Jun finished speaking, Zhu Yanshi was already standing at the aisle, looking at him with clear eyes.

"ah?"

After a moment of silence, he continued.

"Aren't we friends?"

Zhu Yanshi is not a person who cannot distinguish right from wrong.

During the time he agreed to help Song Zhiyu bring the person back to the company, he spent a lot of time considering these two people.

Is Song Zhiyu a businessman who only knows how to exploit his employees and has no humanity at all?

Is Xu Jun a desperate man who is in trouble and urgently needs a way out?

Time gave the answer, and Zhu Yanshi gradually became convinced that he could find a foolproof method.

When the two took a taxi to the hospital, Xu Jun became even more agitated. He entangled his hands together anxiously until the elevator stopped at the third floor.

As the elevator door opened, Xu Jun rushed out. He ran very fast until he reached the end of the corridor and looked at the operating room with the lights on.

A middle-aged couple was sitting on a bench outside the operating room. One could tell that their clothes were made of cheap fabrics, and their skin was rough and yellow, with wrinkles all over it.

Those cloudy eyes were shedding tears. When they heard the footsteps, their expression changed and shot over fiercely.

"You're a jinx! You're a shameless ungrateful bastard!"

Zhu Yanshi was leaning against the wall to catch his breath. His body lacked exercise, and he became breathless just by lifting his legs slightly.

From a distance, he saw the man standing at the door of the operating room being slapped rudely by the middle-aged man sitting on the bench.

The crisp sound echoed in the corridor.

Zhu Yanshi frowned.

He couldn't understand what the couple was saying. The plastic Mandarin had turned into the dialect of his hometown, but he could feel the surging anger and dirty words through their tone.

Xu Jun just stood there blankly. He didn't move, staring quietly at the closed door of the operating room.

After a moment, he lowered his head, took the payment slip from the middle-aged woman's hand, and stared quietly at the string of numbers on it.

"I will return it to you..."

The couple continued to curse, with expressions of disgust and disdain on their faces, and slapped Xu Jun on the cheek again and again.

When another slap came down.

Xu Jun's attention was slowly drawn to him, and he saw a slender white hand reaching out and grabbing the wrist of the middle-aged man in front of him.

"Why did you hit him?"

Zhu Yanshi's eyes were calm, but his body was blocking Xu Jun.

"Why can't we get the shot? He deliberately didn't come to the hospital because he didn't want to pay, right?"

"This is the grandmother who raised him! How could he have the nerve to ignore her?"

The middle-aged woman spoke in broken Mandarin, her saliva flying everywhere and landing on Zhu Yanshi's wrist.

"How much."

Zhu Yanshi said, frowning slightly and even interrupting the other party's abusive words with a somewhat impatient tone.

Such a straightforward expression surprised everyone. Xu Jun's eyes were fixed on Zhu Yanshi's back.

"You don't have to do this..."

"List."

Zhu Yanshi turned around and took the payment list from Xu Jun's hand. The amount on it was not large and there was no outstanding debt. One could imagine how much money Xu Jun had saved before.

"What is your relationship?"

In the corridor, the cursing and crying disappeared, and the red light in front of the operating room door was projected onto the wall, illuminating the ugliness on people's faces.

"They are my aunt and uncle."

Seojun's voice cracked, his gaze dropping to the ground.

"So, you were solely responsible for your grandma's illness expenses? They don't have to bear any responsibility at all?"

Zhu Yanshi easily pointed out the key point of the problem. The calmer and more light-hearted his tone was, the more embarrassed the middle-aged man next to him felt.

The middle-aged woman sat down on the ground with disordered breathing and began to cry loudly.

"We're not as well off as Xiaojun! We have no money! We've finally saved tens of thousands of dollars, and we're going to give it to his brother to get married!"

"Why are we so miserable? Do we have to bear all this just because our lives are not going as we wish?"

"He was the one who said it was none of our business! Now he wants us to pay for it. What's going on?"

Zhu Yanshi's eyes were only on the payment slip in front of him. He took a photo and sent it to Song Zhiyu.

Then he held the phone forward.

"I'm paying for him, whose code should I scan?"

The boy's movements were very quick. When he was scanning the code to transfer money, his wrist was grabbed.

Xu Jun's eyes were red and mist was swirling in front of his eyes. He wanted to cry, but he couldn't. He could only stare at the person in front of him with his eyes.

I want to keep the outline of the person in my mind forever.

"Why help me?"

"We've only known each other for a few days..."

"I have some spare money, and I'm willing to help you, but there are conditions."

Zhu Yanshi raised his eyes, and a certain emotion suddenly flowed in his bright eyes.

In his plan, there are actually thousands of ways to control Xu Jun and complete the cooperation with Song Zhiyu.

He could have just asked the other party to return to Song Zhiyu's company when he was down and out. By negotiating terms with a person when he was at his lowest point, he could actually reduce his interests to the lowest point to achieve his goal.

Xu Jun is in urgent need of a well-paid job and needs the money to come quickly.

Song Zhiyu's company is the best choice. Under the pressure of surgery fees, he has only this path to choose.

During negotiations, they can even try to lower the salary for the next term.

But Zhu Yanshi did not do so.

He didn't know why, but when he saw Xu Jun standing alone outside the ward, being beaten and scolded by his aunt and uncle, he suddenly thought of his past self.

After wandering around and having no place to live, he was finally taken in by a rag-picking grandma.

His loved ones passed away at an age when he was most helpless.

How old was he then?

She seems to be only thirteen...

The doctor proposed a rescue plan, but he couldn't raise any money, and no one would believe a child.

No one would lend money to a thirteen-year-old.

At that time, he was standing outside the ward and could only watch his grandmother die in pain.

Since then, Zhu Yanshi gradually began to develop the habit of saving money. He liked saving money and was reluctant to spend it, just hoping to have money to take out when necessary.

Now, he seemed to see his former self in Xu Jun.

The little boy standing alone outside the ward.

He gave the money away, giving Xu Jun more choices and also giving his childhood self new opportunities.

Then the money is well spent.

Zhu Yanshi transferred the money to the middle-aged woman's mobile phone. After the incident, the other party felt ashamed to stay outside the ward, so the couple left in a hurry.

They were not sad because of their loved ones lying in the ward. Their anger was simply because they were contacted by the hospital and asked to pay.

The corridor was very quiet, and even the sound of breathing became very faint.

Zhu Yanshi sat on the chair, leaning back and looking at the light above his head.

He stayed quietly outside the ward without saying much comfort, but his eyes still couldn't help but turn red.

If he could meet someone who was willing to help him when he was thirteen years old.

Will everything be different?

Zhu Yanshi slightly pulled the corner of his lips, but heard the voice of a man next to him.

"Okay, I promise."

"What?" Zhu Yanshi looked over.

"Your request." The redness in Xu Jun's eyes had not faded yet, and his eyes, hidden between his black hair, were unusually bright.

"I promise you, no matter what."

"Let's talk about it after the operation is over."

Zhu Yanshi nodded.

Time flies quickly, and three hours passed in the blink of an eye.

The door of the operating room opened, and the doctor who walked out had a relaxed expression on his face. He waved to Xu Jun who was standing at the door.

It was obvious that the two were familiar with each other.

“This operation…”

“…very successful.”

The male doctor smiled. Although his eyes showed fatigue, he was still humming a song.

Xu Jun stood there in a daze. He turned his head and looked at Zhu Yanshi's face. He blinked and tears rolled down his face.

"Thank you."

Zhu Yanshi stood up with a smile on his face.

"You should thank yourself."

After being transferred from the operating room to the ward, all the subsequent matters needed to be arranged. Xu Jun was too busy in the hospital, so Zhu Yanshi took a taxi back to school alone.

He was sitting in the car, watching the scenery passing by outside the window, when his cell phone suddenly vibrated and he answered the call.

"Are you in surgery?"

"What happened?"

Song Zhiyu's voice came hurriedly.
