Chapter 3 He Didn’t Mention Marriage
Qi Yuan remained calm, took the business card, and said to Dr. Jake, "Please help me."
So Jake stayed in the villa next door. Qi Yuan sat on the sofa, playing with the business card. Fang Yi was writing a manuscript with a notebook nearby. He glanced at the business card in her hand and snorted coldly. Qi Yuan leaned back in her chair, picked up her phone, clicked on Gu Cheng's profile picture, and looked at his profile picture.
Unconsciously, Gu Cheng has become more and more individualistic.
-
A big hand was rubbing her hair. Wen Chu was sleeping on her stomach. The quilt was very soft. She was drowsy. Gu Cheng chuckled and asked, "Is there a show today?"
Wen Chu shook his head slightly, his voice soft: "No."
"So you're resting at home?"
"Well, I have an appointment with Xi Ning." She pushed aside some hair and rubbed the pillow with her eyes closed.
Gu Cheng raised his eyebrows.
He knew Xi Ning, the sharp-tongued and incisive entertainment editor, who was well-known in the industry. He pinched the tip of her nose and said, "Sleep a little longer. Wait until you've rested enough before going out."
"Okay." She nodded.
She was still very sleepy. Last night in the middle of the night, he pulled her to exercise again. While they were kissing, he covered her with his hands. She was in a daze and was pressed under him.
"I asked my aunt to save some food for you."
"Uh-huh."
Gu Cheng kissed her, tucked her in, and then left the master bedroom. The nanny, who was not a live-in nanny, had bought some groceries and was preparing them in the open kitchen. Seeing Gu Cheng coming out, she asked how he was preparing for the day. Gu Cheng replied to the nanny's words, then opened his phone and saw a message.
Information from Qi Yuan.
Qi Yuan: I met Dr. Jake, Gu Cheng, you are so thoughtful.
Gu Cheng looked at the message. Qi Yuan's profile picture had been changed several times. The current one was taken for a magazine, with her wearing lace gloves supporting her face. He looked at it for a few seconds and sent a copy of Jake's past successful case. He replied to Sister Qi Yuan to be patient and accept the treatment.
Qi Yuan replied quickly: OK.
Gu Cheng didn't reply. He put down his phone, picked up his coat from the sofa, and went out. Passing the open kitchen, he said to the nanny, "She's still sleeping. Don't disturb her. We'll arrange food when she wakes up. I guess we'll have breakfast and lunch together."
The nanny was preparing sea cucumber soup. She smiled and replied, "Okay, don't worry."
Bang—after a while, the door closed and the large flat fell into silence. Only the light in the open kitchen was on. Gu Cheng went downstairs and the phone in his pocket did not ring again. In the chat box, the few words showed that he did not have much contact with Qi Yuan, or it should be said that not much in the past eight years.
Gu Cheng's words came true. When Wen Chu woke up, the sun was already high in the sky. Her long black hair reached her waist and flowed elegantly. She walked out yawning in her nightgown. The nanny smiled and said, "The soup is ready. Are you hungry? Do you want to have some soup first?"
Wen Chu had finished washing up. She drank some water first, then walked over and said good morning to her aunt with a smile. Then she went to check on the soup. The nanny had stewed two kinds, fish maw and sea cucumber.
Wen Chu chose fish maw.
The nanny smiled and said, "Drink the soup first. I'll make you something to eat. Mr. Gu said you wanted to eat shrimp. I'll make you salt and pepper shrimp, okay?"
"Okay." Wen Chu responded while drinking the soup.
She would also eat some sugar-control meatballs before drinking the soup. Qi Yuan recently filmed a costume drama, and she needed to maintain her figure, so she had to keep up with Qi Yuan's weight.
After dinner, Wen Chu packed up and went out. She wore a hat and a mask to protect herself from the sun and went straight to Xi Ning's company. Xi Ning had her own small studio. As soon as Wen Chu opened the door, she smelled the strong smell of cigarettes. She fanned herself, turned on the fan, sat down at the table, and stared at Xi Ning: "You smoke too much."
Xi Ning's lips were flaming red, biting a thin cigarette, and said, "Wait for me, I'll finish writing this manuscript first."
Wen Chu tore off the gum and handed it to Xi Ning.
Xi Ning took it and put it in her mouth to chew, but the cigarette was still bitten at the corner of her mouth. She glanced at Wen Chu and said, "Doesn't the one in your family smoke?"
Wen Chu knew she was asking about Gu Cheng, so she said, "Not much."
"Oh." Xi Ning stared at the computer and continued typing.
Wen Chu saw her frowning and said, "Who are you writing about? You look so miserable."
Xi Ning glanced at Wen Chu, "What do you think? Besides the one you used as a stand-in for..."
"Qi Yuan?" Wen Chu was a little surprised. "Have you received the manuscript from the company?"
Xi Ning continued staring at the computer, her fingers dancing rapidly on the keyboard. She bit her cigarette and said, "Feng Yue Wan's IP is too big. If Qi Yuan wants to continue, she still needs to be tested. Your company contacted us overnight, hoping to write an article specifically for Qi Yuan about her acting skills. I just scolded her, and now I know the inside story of the female knight. Can I write it? Writing one line and deleting two lines is too painful."
Wen Chu blinked, took off her hat and placed it on the table, saying, "Go back and take a look at Qi Yuan's past works, maybe you'll get some inspiration."
Xi Ning pushed the keyboard away and leaned back. "Honestly, I don't care about her past works. I'm just curious why her acting has declined so much in recent years. Or is it that she has you as a stunt double and everything is worry-free? Anyway, she has both fame and fortune, so she can fool the audience like this."
Wen Chu remembered Qi Yuan's anxiety and back injury: "She has no choice. Anxiety and back injury are a double torture for her."
"Heh." Xi Ning tapped Wen Chu's nose. "You, do you believe it? If you continue like this, she won't let you go when the ten-year contract is up."
Wen Chuxin shuddered.
Xi Ning snorted coldly: "You just realized it? You need to think about this possibility carefully."
Wen Chu pursed his lips.
As a stunt double for eight years, she certainly hopes that one day she can have her own work, a work with her own signature, instead of always being behind the scenes and being Qi Yuan's stunt double. She also wants to see the light of day.
"I'm not going to write anymore. I just can't write anything." Xi Ning saved the document, turned off the computer, and put out the cigarette in his hand. "Let's go. It's rare that you don't have to be her shadow. Let's go shopping."
Wen Chu collected his thoughts, picked up his hat, and was pulled out of the studio by Xi Ning. The air outside was much better, at least the smell of cigarettes was not so strong.
She picked up her phone and looked at the plants, and suggested, "You should put some plants in your office. It smells like smoke."
Xi Ning closed the door and said, "Let's go to the store and buy it later. You can pick it out for me."
"good."
The car Xi Ning drove was very domineering, it was a Wrangler series. It was difficult to get a license plate at the beginning, and the company helped her. The two of them were in a nearby shopping mall. After parking, Wen Chu went to find a flower shop. Xi Ning was still replying to work on her phone and browsing some comments. She had a sharp writing style, and it was common for her to be scolded.
As they walked for a while, the 3D screen overhead flashed news of a recent collaboration between Gu's drone company and Licheng's Zhou's company. Just then, several limited-edition sports cars sped past behind them, demonstrating that some people in Beijing simply possess wealth and power. Xi Ning, immersed in literature and navigating this glitz and glamour, was acutely aware of the disparity between status and status.
She pulled Wen Chu aside and clicked the screen above. "Isn't the one from your family in charge of the drones? Are they collaborating with the Zhou family in Licheng?"
Wen Chu looked up and said, "Well, he often goes to Licheng on business trips recently."
"That young man Zhou Yang does more than just short videos." Xi Ning knew something about this. Wen Chu smiled and said, "They are from the same circle, so it's normal for them to work together."
Xi Ning raised an eyebrow and looked at her: "Come to think of it, you have been together for four years, right?"
Wen Chu: "Four years and two months."
"He didn't mention getting married?" Xi Ning asked in a lower voice.
Wen Chu paused and shook her head slightly.
Seeing her expression, Xi Ning felt an itch for a cigarette again, so she said, "I've said before that the gap in status between you two is obvious. It's not easy to get married. The longer you've been together without getting married, the harder it will be. Aren't your uncle and aunt urging you to do so?"
Wen Chu saw the flower shop and walked over with Xi Ning. She whispered, "It doesn't matter if it doesn't bear fruit. It's good like this now."
Xi Ning's tone was sharp, "Whether you don't want to get married is your business, but whether he wants to get married is his business. Wen Chu, you graduated from the Film and Television Academy. For eight years, your career was trapped by Qi Yuan, and for four years, your relationship was trapped by Gu Cheng. How many eight years are there in life, and how many four years are there?"
Wen Chu's heart suddenly felt weak.
Xi Ning continued, "If you and Gu Cheng could marry, would Qi Yuan dare to do anything to you? She wouldn't dare. This is reality."
Wen Chu stopped and looked back at Xi Ning.
Xi Ning saw that her eyes were misty and seemed to be hiding. She felt distressed. It was a good holiday and she should be happy. However, Xi Ning became angry when she thought of last night's hot searches. She hoped that Wen Chu could see the reality. After all, Qi Yuan was also in their circle, and Wen Chu was outside the circle.
These young masters and rich girls are free and unrestrained, their lives are wonderful, and they have the final say on their ups and downs. But for ordinary people, ten years is half their life.
Wen Chu tugged at Xi Ning: "I understand what you mean, Xi Ning, but he is very good to me, you know that."
Xi Ning pursed her lips.
It’s hard to say anything more, so I swallowed the words back.
Entering the flower shop, which also had plants, Wen Chu went up to help Xi Ning choose. Xi Ning, dressed in a professional suit and with a strong aura, was looking specifically at plants like cacti. Wen Chu chose plants that would brighten the eyes and soothe the liver, and that were easy to maintain. Just as he was getting into the selection, his phone rang.
She picked it up and took a look.
The caller was agent Shu Mei.
She picked up the phone.
Shu Mei asked, "Where?"
Wen Chu was startled: "I'm outside."
"Go back to the set and reshoot a few scenes." The fan was whirring on Shu Mei's side. The assistant director was talking to Qi Yuan, calling her name.
Wen Chu frowned: "What scene? I remember it was finished yesterday."
"Wen Chu, Qi Yuan isn't feeling well. You need to come back and take her place. I don't need to explain much, do I?" Shu Mei said bluntly. Wen Chu held her phone, and Xi Ning looked up. This had happened before, many times, and it always ended with a contract. Wen Chu didn't bother to argue anymore. She said, "I'll pack up and go over."
"Okay, drive slowly." Shu Mei said and hung up the phone.
Wen Chu put away his phone, picked up the rosemary beside him and went to pay, "Xi Ning, let's buy this."
Xi Ning looked unhappy and came over holding a cactus: "Are you asking me to go back to the set?"
Wen Chu said: "Qi Yuan has been in poor health."
Xi Ning snorted coldly: "If it's not good, just quit the circle, why are you still filming?"
She knew that Wen Chu was bound by the contract and there was nothing Wen Chu could do. The two of them returned to the car with the green plants they had bought. Xi Ning stepped on the accelerator and drove Wen Chu back to the film and television city.
