Chapter 4
No matter what Boss Shen said, Boss Shen was a little moved.
But Chenliuchi still had some self-restraint. Was it too abrupt to break into someone's house just after they met?
He was just hesitating about how to answer when he heard someone's voice from far behind him, a puzzled voice: "Sinking Pool?"
Chen Liuchi turned around and saw Chen Du walking out from the shadows of the stairwell carrying a large messenger bag: "I look just like you."
He glanced at Cen Zhao and raised his eyebrows: "Friend?"
Chen Liuchi nodded and introduced the two to each other.
When Chen Du heard that the other party was the forensic doctor in charge of his bar case, he immediately became interested and asked him if there was anything else that needed to be done about the bathroom, and if he could open a horror room instead if the bar couldn't continue to operate.
Cen Zhao answered him patiently: There is no need to do anything, they have already carried out thorough disinfection before leaving; it is okay to open the secret room, but it is best not to mention the case, otherwise it would be a bit unfair to the deceased from a humanitarian point of view.
Cen Zhao didn't know, but Chen Liuchi didn't know Chen Du well. He opened a secret room and a bar, but he was inconsistent. He was just a jerk who talked big but acted like a dwarf.
He patted Chen Du to shut him up, then pointed to the car and said, "Wait in the car for a moment. I'll go get a power bank from Cen Zhao. My phone's out of battery."
Chen Du spoke faster than he thought, and blurted out, "Why didn't you tell me earlier that you were out of battery? I have some in my bag."
Sinking pool: "..."
Cen Zhao: “…”
Deathly silence lasted for a few seconds. Chen Du seemed to come to his senses and pretended to flip through his messenger bag. "Ouch, I misremembered. You should go to Forensic Doctor Cen's house."
Chen Liuchi had already caught a glimpse of the shell of his power bank. It was a huge white one, so he couldn't pretend not to see it. He had no choice but to reach out and take out the power bank. He smiled helplessly at Cen Zhao and said, "The urgent matter has been resolved. I won't bother you anymore."
Cen Zhao nodded. "It's hard to entertain you without water at home. Let's make an appointment next time."
It was already late, and Chen Liuchi still had to send Chen Du home, so he couldn't delay any longer. Cen Zhao walked the two of them to the main entrance and watched them get into the car.
The car started and slowly drove out from the temporary parking space on the side of the road, but did not rush onto the main road. Instead, it drove slowly to Cen Zhao's side.
The car window rolled down, and Chen Liuchi turned to look at Cen Zhao and asked directly, "Are you free tomorrow?"
Cen Zhao was stunned for a moment, then quickly replied, "Yes, what's wrong?"
Chen Liuchi slightly shifted his gaze, not wanting to stare at Cen Zhao's face. "There's a sailing festival happening at the harbor next week. Our bar is responsible for some of the drinks. I need to go check out the venue tomorrow and maybe go on a yacht for some fun. Are you... interested?"
The streets were quiet late at night, but the silence lasted only a fraction of a second before Cen Zhao's voice rang out. Standing beneath the streetlight, his voice and eyes seemed enveloped in a halo, soft and gentle, "I'm interested, Boss Shen."
…
On the way back, Chen Du kept talking. At first, he was trying to cover up the issue and hint at it, but within three sentences, he got straight to the point: "Did you talk?"
Chenliuchi told him to get lost as usual.
Chen Du snorted softly, "Still pretending? How could I not see that as someone who's been there?" He then remembered something and perked up again, "Were you also waiting for news from Forensic Doctor Cen at the airport?"
Chen Liuchi's face froze when he heard that. The car suddenly stopped at a red light. Chen Du was thrown out without any preparation and was then pulled back by the seat belt. He rubbed his chest and cursed Chen for taking revenge.
"I forgot."
Chenliuchi's face looked a little gloomy and a little annoyed.
Chen Du was puzzled: "What did you forget?"
Chen Liuchi exhaled softly: "I forgot to ask for Cen Zhao's contact information."
Chen Du: "...Why, do you two usually communicate only through thoughts?"
Chen Liuchi ignored Chen Du's teasing and looked at the time. It was past twelve o'clock and they had already driven out of two intersections. If they turned back, they would probably run into no one. Cen Zhao was not a security guard on duty, so he must have returned upstairs long ago.
"Anyway, you guys agreed to meet at the bar tomorrow morning." Although Chen Du couldn't understand the way these two communicated, it didn't stop him from teasing them. "At worst, we can just communicate telepathically all night."
Chen Liuchi didn't even glance at him. He stopped the car at the station and opened the door: "Don't be late tomorrow."
Chen Du raised a finger and shook it. "I'm late because I want you to be alone with Forensic Doctor Cen. We're all brothers. No need to thank me."
Chen Du was never one to play games. If he said he'd be late, he wasn't. The next morning, at nine o'clock, Chen Liuchi still hadn't gotten through to him. He knew Boss Chen was determined not to show up today, just to give his brother some time alone.
Chen Liuchi was a little touched at first, but when he checked his Moments and saw Xin Xin’s surprise video of landing early last night, he understood everything at once. Chen was not seeking benefits for his brother at all, but was clearly living a free life for himself.
He stood at the door of the bar in silence for a few seconds, and finally gave Xin Xin's video a thumbs up.
Putting away his phone, Chen Liuchi continued to stand under the eaves, waiting for someone. The sun wasn't too strong in May, but he'd worn a khaki jacket to look cool, and soon his back was sweating. He was a little hesitant to go inside the bar to wait for someone. First, the bar hadn't been open for three or four days, so it smelled bad. Second, someone had died there before, and Chen Liuchi felt a little uncomfortable going in alone.
He looked at the time, it was 9:27, and Cen Zhao would be here in 33 minutes.
It will be soon.
There is not much that can be done in thirty minutes. Chenliuchi first swept up the garbage blown in by the wind at the door of the bar, then got in the car to check whether he had brought drinking water, snacks and charging cables, and finally went to a nearby supermarket to exchange a hundred yuan in cash for change in case of emergency.
After finishing all these, I looked at the watch again in the sedimentation tank. It was 9:42. Very good, there were still 18 minutes left.
Summer was finally approaching, and the temperature was rising. After all the activity, a little sweat had formed on his forehead. Chen Liuchi had specially brought some scented handkerchiefs, and right out of the package, he could smell the sweet perfume. He frowned, thinking the scent was a bit too pungent. Cen Zhao looked so refreshing, it was hard for him to like him.
Just as he was hesitating whether to buy a new tissue, his cell phone vibrated. Chen Liuchi immediately took it out and saw who was calling. He was a little confused because it was his former assistant at Galaxy Technology.
"Mr. Shen?"
The assistant was very quiet on the other end, not like she was at the office, but her voice was slightly anxious: "Do you have a friend named Cen Zhao?"
Chen Liuchi was stunned for a moment, then immediately responded: "Yes, how did you know?"
The voice on the other end was fast and clear. "Look, Mr. Cen just contacted me through your previous work WeChat account. He was involved in a multi-car accident on Fenghuang West Road. He's not seriously injured, but someone else was seriously injured. As the only person at the scene with first aid experience, he accompanied the injured to the Municipal Hospital. So, I might not be able to meet you on time today."
Chenliuchi was no longer concerned about work or WeChat, and immediately grasped the key words: car accident, no hindrance, Municipal Chinese Medicine Hospital.
He exhaled slightly, the leisurely mood he had just been waiting in was completely shattered by the sudden situation: "When did he tell you?"
The assistant replied: "Three minutes ago."
Chen Liuchi threw the tissue away, fastened his seatbelt and started the car: "Send his WeChat to me."
It was Saturday, and the traffic in the city was terrible. Chen Liuchi drove with a sweat on his forehead, regretting once again why he had scheduled the meeting time at ten o'clock, during the peak travel period.
After finally reaching the intersection near the hospital, the car was like an ant stuck to the ground, unable to move an inch. Chen Liuchi called a designated driver nearby and got out of the car and headed straight for the hospital emergency building.
The Municipal Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is the closest Class-A tertiary hospital to Fenghuang West. Even if there were no serial car accidents, it would be overcrowded on weekdays.
Chen Liuchi rushed into the emergency center, followed closely by an ambulance parked on the slope. The ambulance's wail-wah sound was so loud that it made people panic.
"Make way!"
The stretcher was pushed forward, brushing against the heel of the sinking pond. He subconsciously looked back and saw a young man in his twenties or thirties, with blood all over his chin. He didn't know where he was injured, and his face was frighteningly pale.
Chen Liuchi couldn't bear to see this, and quickly turned away and stepped back. The hall was in a mess, crowded with people. Chen Liuchi searched through the crowd twice, but still couldn't see Cen Zhao. The friend request on his phone also didn't get approved.
He was anxious and wanted to find someone to ask about the situation, but the triage counter in the lobby was in chaos, and no one could pay attention to him, a healthy person. Finally, the bathroom cleaner told him that a group of car accident victims had just arrived, and two of them had been wheeled to the operating room on the third floor.
The operating room generally didn't allow anyone except the patient's family to wait outside. Chen Liuchi assumed Cen Zhao wasn't upstairs, but he couldn't help but head for the stairs. It was lunchtime, and there were so many people waiting for the elevator, he skipped it and headed straight for the stairwell. As soon as he opened the door, he bumped into someone.
"Sinking pond?"
The moment he heard the voice, Chen Liuchi's heart finally settled down, but when he lowered his eyes, he caught a glimpse of the blood on Cen Zhao's clothes and became nervous again: "Are you hurt?"
Cen Zhao followed his gaze and glanced down, shaking his head. "It's the passenger in the back car. The child has a broken leg and needs to be cleaned up first. There are too many people on the first floor, so they went to the outpatient surgery room on the second floor."
Chen Liuchi looked at him for a few seconds, then looked away and looked him up and down. Only after he was sure that there was nothing wrong with Cen Zhao's standing posture or speaking demeanor did he truly breathe a sigh of relief.
He pulled the person out of the stairwell until they were out of the emergency building. When they both stood in the sunlight, Chen Liuchi finally let go and said, "There are too many people in there. I can't hear what they are saying."
Cen Zhao hummed, then apologized earnestly, "Boss Shen's plan for today is going to be ruined."
Chenliuchi looked at him and crossed his arms. "Do you think a marine fuel tank is more important than your safety?"
Cen Zhao didn't seem to understand: "What?"
He glanced over, his pupils darker and warmer than usual in the backlight.
After being stared at like this for a while, Chen Liuchi couldn't help but look away first: "Nothing, are you sure you're okay? Don't you need a physical examination?"
Cen Zhao considerately didn't expose his clumsy attempt to change the subject. After a moment's thought, he rolled up his shirt sleeves and asked, "Is that a question?"
As soon as Chen Liuchi looked down, he saw a clear bruise on the outside of Cen Zhao's right forearm, roughly the size of a palm. If he remembered correctly, he had been pulling on Cen Zhao's right arm the entire time he was walking with him, and how could he not cry out in pain?
As soon as he moved his lips, Cen Zhao seemed to see through his thoughts immediately. He bent his elbow slightly and said, "It hurts a little."
Chen Liuchi had to swallow the blame that was on the tip of his tongue and replaced it with concern: "Did you hurt any bones? I'll go with you to take an X-ray."
It's not that serious. Cen Zhao quickly shook his head and said professionally, "Not really. I'm a doctor after all. Boss Shen, you can trust my judgment."
Seeing that he was indeed able to move freely and did not look painful, Chen Liuchi nodded, but still insisted on taking him to buy a spray for injuries.
Cen Zhao did not refuse this time. As a result, as soon as he entered the outpatient clinic, Chen Liuchi tricked him into making an appointment for an orthopedic department. He had no choice but to complete the examination obediently. Finally, he shrugged at Chen Liuchi while holding a bag of ointment spray, meaning, he was really okay.
The sedimentation pool is not afraid of trouble, just to seek peace of mind. Just like Cen Zhao said, he is a doctor after all, and there are operational requirements. He still needs to pay more attention to parts such as the arms.
Cen Zhao watched him buy ice mineral water for a cold compress, and he felt very subtle in his heart. On the one hand, he was worried that he would be too much trouble for others, but on the other hand, he felt it was very soothing, especially since Chen Liuchi's hand was very light and supported under his wrist, which was cool. His heart, which had been in turmoil all morning, slowly calmed down.
Cen Zhao sat on the chair, watching Chen Liuchi applying the massage to his arm, not realizing how focused his eyes were.
But Chen Liuchi is a person who particularly doesn't like other people's eyes to be focused on him. He can't tolerate other people's gazes for even a minute, but he can tolerate Cen Zhao's gaze for three minutes at most.
The fingers holding the mineral water bottle curled up slightly. Just when Shen Liuchi wanted to let go and take a breath, he heard Cen Zhao suddenly say, "Boss Shen, can I ask you something?"
Chen Liuchi was stunned for a moment: "You say."
Cen Zhao raised his eyes and met Chen Liuchi's. The emotion between his brows was not nervous, but more serious than usual: "Why have you ignored me these days?"
