Chapter 56: Rebellious General
As he spoke, Sun Wei glanced towards Cheng's mother.
Jiang's face looked unhappy, as if she was feeling uneasy.
"That's great!" Mother Cheng said. "I've always known that there are people in the court who are eyeing the Northern Palace covetously. The Northern Palace is the pillar of the court. If anyone dares to attack the young general, they're attacking the Northern Palace. My son will not let them off easily!"
Sun Wei still smiled and said nothing.
Cheng's mother also noticed something unusual and looked at Sun Wei.
"Madam, do you have anything else to say?"
Sun Wei said calmly, "I heard that many of these thieves are from the Northern Palace."
Cheng's mother suddenly understood the purpose of Sun Wei's visit and her expression became serious.
"Madam, are you saying that my son is also a suspect?" She stood up suddenly and said with a stern face, "My son has been taught by our family since he was young, and loyalty and righteousness are his foundation. Although he is now the acting governor, he is loyal to the Xie family and has no intention of disobeying them!"
"Really?" Sun Wei asked, "If General Cheng really does go on this trip, what does the old lady say we should do?"
"I will personally enforce the family law and break his legs!"
Sun Wei did not answer, but looked at Jiang.
"Madam Jiang has been feeling uneasy since just now," she said gently, "so I guess Madam is not completely clueless."
Mother Cheng also looked at Jiang.
Jiang's face was already pale.
"I..." She stammered, looking at Cheng's mother, "I am just..."
Before he could finish his words, footsteps were heard outside.
A man walked by and asked anxiously, "I heard that my mother broke her leg. Is it serious?"
It’s Cheng Yu who’s back.
Everyone looked surprised, and Jiang hurried out to greet them.
Cheng Yu walked quickly to the hall and was stunned when he saw a strange woman in the room.
"This is Madam Zhou, the niece of Marquis Changyang's wife, from General Guangwu's mansion," Cheng's mother said to Cheng Yu. "The Crown Prince is here in person, so why are you running back now? I just heard you say you broke your leg. Who broke their leg?"
Cheng Yu breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that his mother was fine.
"Just now, a young man came and said that his mother was bumped into by someone when she was going out and broke her leg. It was a busy day out today, and many people were bumped into, so I believed it for a moment." Cheng Yu looked at her and said, "Is mother really okay?"
Cheng's mother frowned, and suddenly Sun Wei looked at her.
Sun smiled and, without waiting for her to ask, said, "That young man was sent by me. The general is indeed filial and his reputation is well-deserved."
Everyone's expression changed.
Cheng Yu frowned, "Madam, what do you mean? Even if she is the Marquis's niece, you shouldn't tease her in my house!"
"I just wanted to ask a question. There's no need to tease," Sun Wei said. "Just now, I told the old lady that there will be a rebellion today, and they want to seize the position of the governor of the Northern Palace. The old lady said that the general is definitely not a rebellion. If the general is a rebellion, the old lady will break his legs personally. I just want to ask, is the general a rebellion?"
Cheng Yu stared at Sun Wei in disbelief.
"What do you mean by seizing the throne?" After a moment, Cheng Yu shouted, "Who is spreading rumors? I swear to kill this thief!"
Sun Wei calmly asked, "General, do you dare to swear to the deceased Marquis Changyang?"
Cheng Yu became even angrier, his face flushed red.
"Someone come!" he suddenly shouted, "Tie up this woman!"
"Who dares to attack!" Deng Lian immediately stood in front of Sun Wei, "The Princess of Yuzhang is here, don't be rude!"
This time, everyone was shocked again, and all kinds of eyes were focused on Sun Wei again.
"Why is she Princess Yuzhang? Aren't you the niece of the Marquis' wife?" Jiang asked.
Cheng Yu already understood.
He had seen the list of the Crown Prince's attendants, and there was indeed a Princess Yuzhang on it. However, he had no connection with the Yuzhang Palace, so why would the Princess Yuzhang come to his house and cause such a scene?
"In an emergency, I had to make the necessary arrangements. If I hadn't used the name of the Marquis of Changyang's Mansion, I wouldn't have been able to enter your mansion." Sun Wei said, "This matter is my fault."
Mother Cheng said coldly, "I don't know what the princess intends to do."
"Of course I want to help the general from the edge of the cliff." Sun Wei said to Cheng's mother, "I have just said everything I need to say. Now that the general is here, it would be better for the old lady to ask the general for clarification instead of asking me."
Mother Cheng pondered for a moment and looked at Cheng Yu.
"Follow me." She said lightly, then turned and walked to the back of the hall.
Cheng Yu hesitated for a moment, glared at Sun Wei, and had to follow.
Jiang stood there, at a loss as to what to do.
Sun Wei remained calm, sat down at the table and continued drinking tea.
——
After the hall, Cheng's mother dismissed everyone and looked at Cheng Yu.
"Are you really going to help others attack the Beifu?" she said.
Cheng Yu blushed and asked, "Mother, how could you allow others to sow discord between us? Could it be that you don't even trust your own son?"
"If that's the case, why don't you want to swear?" asked Cheng's mother.
"Ridiculous!" Cheng Yu stamped his feet. "A woman came here for no reason and asked me to swear an oath. I'm the governor of the Northern Prefecture, why should I swear an oath?"
Mother Cheng stared at Cheng Yu, but she already understood in her heart.
A slap landed on Cheng Yu's face.
"Evil son!" She was so angry that her whole body was shaking. After a while, she took a deep breath and pointed at Cheng Yu, "I will settle the score with you later. Today, I will handle everything. You will do whatever I say."
Cheng Yu wanted to say something, but Cheng's mother ignored him and went to the hall.
"Your Highness, you have misunderstood." Mother Cheng's expression had returned to normal when she saw Sun Wei again. "My son has no special qualities, but he is loyal. Those rumors are nothing but slander by those with ulterior motives. Don't worry about them. That's all I have to say. Please return, Your Highness."
Sun Wei smiled faintly and followed suit.
"Since it was the old lady who said it, how can I not believe it? What happened today was a misunderstanding of the general. I hope the general will forgive me." After Sun Wei said this, she bowed.
Cheng Yu did not answer, but asked the housekeeper to send the guest away.
"I have more to say, but I haven't finished yet," Sun Wei said. "Since the general is so loyal to the Xie family, if the Xie family is in trouble, I wonder if the general is willing to do his utmost to help them?"
Without waiting for Cheng Yu to answer, Cheng's mother said, "Of course you will."
"That's very good." Sun smiled and said, "Right now, the young general needs your help."
"Major General?" Cheng Yu felt his heart tighten again, and looked at Sun Wei suspiciously, "The Major General is in Jiankang now, so he won't be helping me today."
Sun Wei shook his head and said, "The young general is outside the door now. Please ask someone to open the door."
These words exploded like thunder again.
"The young general is here?" Cheng's mother hurriedly said, "Please come in!"
After saying that, he led everyone out to meet them.
Cheng Yu followed his mother, feeling dazed. Ever since returning to the mansion, everything had happened one after another, like a heavy punch hitting him, making him breathless.
The shock and doubt in my heart could not be increased.
That cowardly young man didn't even dare to leave the Marquis' Mansion, so how could he dare to enter Jingkou again?
And there is the Princess of Yuzhang.
What kind of monster is she?
Before Cheng's mother and the others arrived at the door, Xie Xiao had already walked in. He bowed to Cheng's mother from a distance and said, "Junior greets the old lady. How are you?"
