Chapter 228: Long Talk (Part 2)
Sun Wei gasped.
She hurriedly said, "But the young master was seriously injured that day. If anything happens to him, it's not my fault!"
Yu Yi nodded. "It's clear that it was God's will that you keep this secret. Don't worry, I've already sent someone to visit Manager Tan and have him burn the letter."
Sun Wei felt a little relieved.
She looked at Yu Yi and said, "Young Master, you have a dignified appearance, but you are no ordinary person."
"I have been traveling for many years, so I have to be on guard against others. Please forgive me, my lady."
At this point, there is nothing to hide.
"When I first met you, you said I looked like your grandfather's granddaughter," Sun Wei said. "That really startled me."
Yu Yi smiled softly, his eyes gentle: "My lady, you have always remembered me, right?"
Sun Wei said, "Although the young master only visited me once, my grandfather mentioned him frequently afterwards, so of course I remembered him more and more."
"I think when the Crown Prince suddenly visited Hengshan that day and asked me to be taken back to Jiankang, it wasn't because of some cousin's request." Yu Yi looked at Sun Wei, "but because the Lady remembered me and knew of my injury, so she offered her help, right?"
Sun Wei was surprised and asked, "How did you know that, sir?"
"The Crown Prince and I were merely classmates many years ago, not close friends," Yu Yi said. "He was just passing through. If he wanted to persuade me, he could have sent someone to do it. Why would he go in person? It's because of the Lady that he's willing to do this."
"Not really," Sun Wei said. "The Crown Prince values righteousness, and he knows it's difficult to persuade the young master. If I leave it to someone else, the young master might not agree. It would be better for him to go there himself. Writing a book is certainly important, but the young master should also take good care of it."
Yu Yi didn't comment and just smiled.
Sun Wei's gaze fell on Sun Yu's collected works again.
"I have a humble request," she said, "since this collection of essays is mine, could you please return it to me, sir?"
Yu Yi seemed not surprised at all.
He flipped through the scroll in his hand and asked, "What are your plans for the future, my lady? Do you want to continue to be the Princess of Yuzhang?"
Sun Wei shook her head. "There is no impenetrable wall in the world. I cannot force what is not mine. Moreover, I have parents and younger brothers at home. I cannot ignore my family. Before I left home, I told my father that I would become a nun for five years. Therefore, I will stay outside for five years at most and then I will go back."
"Oh?" Yu Yi looked at her with a profound expression. "My Lady once said that you came to Jiankang to build a career and live up to Mr. Sun's expectations. Now that you've achieved success, are you willing to give it all up?"
Sun Wei asked, "What do you mean by achievements, sir?"
"I've heard that the Lady is omniscient and can foresee everything. While I don't know where she acquired this ability, it's certainly very useful. Apart from anything else, the Lady should be credited with the primary contribution in suppressing the Three Immortal Sect's rebellion."
"Then, in your opinion, why should I intervene to quell the Three Immortal Sect's rebellion? And what is the purpose of my undertaking?"
Yu Yi smiled and said, "Madam, please speak frankly."
Sun Wei said solemnly, "Whenever my grandfather spoke of Jiankang's past, what he lamented most was the turbulent times. He had a deep desire to serve his country, but ultimately had no place to display it, and passed away in sadness. I have been taught by him since I was young, and everything I do is to fulfill his long-cherished wish. If I can, with my humble efforts, restore peace and unity to the world within these five years, my life on earth will have been worthwhile."
Yu Yi looked at her, his eyes moved, but he didn't say anything.
After a while, he handed her the book in his hand along with several other books on the table: "Return it to its original owner."
Sun Wei stood up to say goodbye. Seeing that she had no servants with her, Yu Yi said, "I will take you back."
"No need," Sun Wei said, "I live not far away. My son is not in good health, so there is no need to work."
Yu Yi did not agree, but picked up the crutch beside him, stood up and said, "Let's go."
——
It's getting dark.
The attendant walked in front, carrying a package of books in one hand and a lamp in the other.
Although the road was not far, it was somewhat difficult for Yu Yi to walk with the help of a crutch.
Sun Wei slowed down her pace and walked slowly with him in the corridor.
"After sitting on the boat for more than a month, I finally felt that taking a walk was great," Yu Yi said with emotion.
"Sir, you really can't sit still." Sun Wei said, "If an ordinary person hurts their leg, they would want to stay indoors all the time."
Yu Yi shook his head: "Time waits for no one, life is but a moment. I also want to travel more and see more, so that my life will not be in vain."
Sun Wei asked curiously, "So, you travel around with such ambitions."
“The more I travel, the more I realize my ignorance, and the clearer my ambition becomes.”
"I wonder what your plans are after you recover from your injury?" Sun Wei asked. "Will you continue your travels?"
"Of course I do. I'd like to go to Ningzhou."
Sun nodded slightly.
In his previous life, Yu Yi had indeed traveled for many years, until the emperor died and the crown prince ascended the throne, when he was summoned to the imperial court as an imperial censor. However, the imperial court was already in a state of terminal decline, and even though he had the talent to govern, he was powerless.
"I hope you can enter the government and stay in Jiankang."
"Why?"
"You are a pillar of the nation. It would be a shame if you could not be used by the court."
Yu Yi smiled and said, "To be honest, Princess, I hear you say this all the time. Today, when I went with the Crown Prince to see my uncle, he lectured me again. But I don't know how I became such a pillar of society, nor do I know what use I can be to the court."
"Your noble character is known to all," Sun Wei said. "My grandfather enjoyed gardening and often taught me the principles of tree planting. For example, if you want to revive a dying tree, fertilizing and watering it are secondary. The most important thing is to support it with a straight tree to prevent it from falling. Then, you can prune the branches and leaves, heal the roots, and remove any rot. Why don't you be that straight tree?"
Yu Yi looked at her, stunned.
An autumn night brought a gust of west wind, blowing off leaves and fluttering them down in front of me.
"Mr. Sun is indeed a talented person." He said softly after a while.
Sun Wei said, "Sir, you understand this truth, but you are just hesitant for a moment."
"My Lady, are you speaking for the sake of the court, or for my sake?"
Sun Wei was stunned.
She was about to answer when she suddenly saw a familiar figure not far away.
"The prince is back." Yu Yi also saw it and said calmly.
Sima Jun came over from the other side of the corridor and said to Yu Yi, "Bo You is not feeling well. Why doesn't he rest inside?"
Yu Yi said, "Doctor Guo has examined him and he's feeling better now. It's boring to lie down all day, so why not go out for a walk? I was just at the governor's residence, and Ziheng was so grateful for taking care of my uncle."
"I wouldn't say I'm dealing with him. Governor Yu and I have known each other for many years, and whenever he passes by here, we always have to talk."
After he finished speaking, he looked at Sun Wei and asked, "Madam, are you here to visit Boyou too?"
