Chapter 184: Reality and Illusion
Sun Wei knew that Li Mo would not tell him the truth, so he stopped asking and instead asked about the war in Kuaiji.
"Princess, you've done your best regarding the Kuaiji incident. There's really no need to worry. Although the Three Immortals' offensive is fierce, and the defenders have suffered occasional setbacks, the Crown Prince has been preparing for war since last year. Given time, victory will be achieved."
Sun Wei said, "Mr. Li, what you're saying is very strange. I never participated in the battle in Kuaiji, so how can I say I did my best? Furthermore, the Crown Prince was in mourning at the palace last year, and at the beginning of this year he went to Jiangzhou to suppress the rebellion. When did he start preparing for war?"
Li Mo smiled and said, "If the princess says so, then so be it. I am sometimes blind and hard of hearing, and I mistake people or mishear the news. It is normal and has nothing to do with the overall situation."
Sun Wei knew that Li Mo was a smart man, so she didn't beat around the bush with him. "I hope Mr. Li will be careful with his words and actions and not wrongly accuse me and the Crown Prince. The Yuzhang Palace has always been honest in its work, and we will definitely not take credit for anything we don't deserve."
Li Mo gave Sun Wei a meaningful look and said politely, "I will remember the princess's teachings."
As Aru watched him leave, she whispered, "This man is so mysterious, as if he knows everything and is unfathomable. He said he has been practicing in Ruoye Mountain for many years. Could he be practicing some evil magic?"
Sun Wei said, "His claim to be practicing in Ruoye Mountain is just an excuse. Once he leaves the capital, who knows where he went? If he's a well-traveled person, why worry about not being able to find out information?"
Ah Ru understood: "That's right. This person's cultivation is not sincere, and sooner or later he will be blamed by the Buddha. Wang Han and his son have such people helping them, and who knows what evil they are up to. The prince is in Linhai, and he must have known that Wang Zhi is on the way and is on guard, right?"
Sun Wei has also been thinking about this matter these days.
Before leaving, she had asked Yang Quan to inform Sima Jun.
Li Mo is not a brainless person, it is impossible for him not to guess this.
If Sima Jun got the news and became alert, what advantage could he gain by leading a hundred or so men straight to Linhai?
"I suspect Li Mo intercepted the messenger and planned a surprise attack. The Crown Prince is probably still completely unaware of Wang Zhi's movements."
A'ru was startled. "Then why not have Captain Yin send someone to report the situation?"
Sun Wei shook his head. "If Li Mo could even intercept the messenger, how could he let any of Yin Wen's soldiers escape?"
A'ru thought for a moment and said, "That reminds me of Captain Yin complaining to me yesterday, saying that Wang Zhi's men were pretending to be brothers with him and wanted to spend the whole day with him, which was disgusting. Could it be that they were actually following him?"
"Nine times out of ten."
"Then how does the princess plan to deal with this?"
Sun Wei thought for a moment.
Even though Sima Jun was completely unaware of Wang Zhi's arrival, Sun Wei did not think Wang Zhi had any chance of winning.
Perhaps, Li Mo has a backup plan.
It's time to find out the truth.
Sun Wei looked at A Ru and asked, "No one has been calling you a brother lately, right?"
——
The next morning, when his subordinates reported to Li Mo that a horse was lost, Li Mo vaguely felt that something had happened.
"Go and count the heads. Who is missing from Yin Wen and his men?"
"It's past the appointed time. They haven't lost any people."
Li Mo asked again, "Where is the princess?"
"Still in the house, no one has come out."
Li Mo walked towards Sun Wei's yard without saying anything.
He said to Yin Wen, who was guarding the gate, "I wish to see the princess. Please ask Captain Yin to pass the message."
Yin Wendao said, "The princess is resting. If Mr. Li has anything to say, please let me know and I will pass it on to the princess."
"I request to see the princess immediately."
Yin Wen stood in front of him calmly and said, "Then please wait here, sir. Once the princess has rested, she will come out."
Li Mo couldn't wait any longer and shouted to the courtyard, "I'm Li Mo, and I want to see the princess!"
Yin Wen was somewhat displeased: "The princess is of noble status, how can Mr. Li see her whenever he wants? This is the women's inner chamber, and you are overstepping your bounds by coming here. Please don't push your luck!"
"Li Mo can't see him, can this military supervisor see him?"
At this time, a voice came.
Everyone looked over and saw Wang Zhi walking towards them.
Li Mo saluted quickly.
Yin Wen had no choice but to bow, but still stood in front of the gate and refused to move.
"Please wait here, Military Supervisor. I will come out to meet you when the princess gets up."
Wang Zhi looked at him and sneered.
"A mere lieutenant in the palace, yet he's so arrogant! I've arrived, yet he refuses to even ask permission." He said, "I want to see the princess right now. I want to see who dares to stop me."
After he said that, he was about to walk into the yard.
Yin Wen gave an order and everyone behind him drew their swords.
Wang Zhi's expression changed, and he ordered the guards to draw their swords.
"The military supervisor can't do that!" Li Mo exclaimed and quickly stood between Wang Zhi and Yin Wen.
He was about to persuade her when he suddenly heard a voice from the yard: "Who's here?"
Everyone looked and saw Sun Wei walking out.
Her eyes swept over the crowd and the weapons in their hands, and then looked at Wang Zhi.
"It's General Wang," she said. "What's he doing?"
Wang Zhi had a spy near Li Mo, and upon hearing the report that Li Mo suspected Princess Yuzhang was missing, he hurried over to her. Wang Zhi was startled, thinking that Princess Yuzhang had escaped, and so he rushed over to investigate.
Unexpectedly, Princess Yuzhang was there.
He glanced at Li Mo, somewhat unhappy.
Li Mo quickly stepped forward to apologize to Sun Wei, saying, "It's getting late. The military supervisor saw that the princess hadn't come out yet and was worried that she might be unwell. I hope the princess will forgive me."
Sun Wei smiled and nodded, "I see, the military supervisor is thoughtful."
She asked Yin Wen and the others to put away their knives and said to Wang Zhi, "I remember the time we set out, so I shouldn't have been late."
"It was my negligence that I misspoke about the time, causing the military supervisor to become anxious. I beg the military supervisor and the princess to forgive me."
Wang Zhi reluctantly got the step, said "hmm", and left without saying anything more.
Sun Wei was about to turn back when he suddenly heard someone say, "Where is the princess's maidservant named A'ru?"
Sun Wei glanced at him and said, "What's going on today? It's all bad luck for me. Are all my men going to come out and report for duty?"
"Something has happened. Please tell me the truth, Princess."
"Nothing. Last night, I had a little argument with her. I felt she wasn't taking good care of me, and she felt it was too hard to live in this remote area. I wanted her to leave, and she was willing, so she left."
Li Mo's face darkened and he asked, "Where did he go?"
"How would I know?" Sun Wei snorted coldly, "It would be better if that cunning slave was eaten by wild beasts."
Li Mo stared at Sun Wei for a moment, and he already had the answer in his mind.
He returned to Wang Zhi's room and reported to him, "The maid named A'ru has most likely gone to Linhai to report."
Wang Zhi suddenly smashed the teacup in his hand, and the fragments flew up and cut Li Mo's face.
