Extra: Proposal (Part 2)

Extra: Proposal (Part 2)

Sun Wei sneered, feeling helpless.

Although her parents knew that she had pretended to be a concubine, she had always kept her affair with Sima Jun a secret from them.

During this period, Sun Wei wanted to confess to his parents several times, but he swallowed the words back when they came to his lips.

After all, she was Sima Jun's stepmother, and her parents always prided themselves on being from a prestigious family. If she told them that she had an affair with her nominal stepson, she didn't know how they would face it.

"He never told me. How should I respond to what my mother said?"

"You've been with him for so long, seeing his eyes, seeing his actions, could it be that you're completely clueless?" Li asked. "Speaking of which, when you got into trouble last time, I was very puzzled. You were clearly guilty of deceiving the emperor, but His Highness defended you in every way, not only accepting A-Qiao as his apprentice but also finding such a nice house for your father and me. He said it was because of your service, but as the Prince of Yuzhang, not pursuing your deceiving the emperor was already a huge gesture of gratitude. Why would he go to such lengths to take on so much responsibility? The more I thought about this, the more uneasy I became. But with this speculation today, I finally feel more at ease."

Sun Wei's heart was pounding as she looked at Li: "What destiny?"

"He's most likely attracted to you."

A huge stone seemed to have fallen to the ground.

Sun smiled and said, "Is mother going to the government to judge the case?"

Li glared at her and said, "I'm talking to you seriously, don't be so playful. Tell me, have you not noticed?"

"No." Sun Wei said shamelessly, "Mother doesn't know how much I have helped His Highness. Perhaps I can still help him in the future. I can accept the benefits he has given me."

Li frowned and shook her head, saying, "You girl, people always praise you for your intelligence, but how could you be so clueless about such an important matter?"

Sun smiled.

Sun Nian was always reserved when meeting strangers, let alone a prominent figure like the Prince of Yuzhang. However, like Sun Yu, he loved learning and could talk endlessly about literature.

Therefore, Sun Wei asked him to take Sima Jun to the study to read his grandfather's manuscripts, which actually pointed him in the right direction.

During the meal, Sun Nian talked about Sun Yu's past incessantly.

Sima Jun listened carefully.

Occasionally, when Sima Jun mentioned the past when Sun Wei was too naughty and was scolded by Sun Yu, he would look at Sun Wei and smile at her.

Sun Wei lowered his head to eat, and felt a heat in his ears.

After the meal, the attendant came to tell Sima Jun that there was something going on in the army and asked him to return to Xunyang Palace as soon as possible. Sima Jun had no choice but to decline.

Sun Nian was about to stand up to see him off when Li stopped him.

"Your Highness just said that he wants to collect the poems left by his uncle. Your Highness is very busy, and I don't know when we will see each other again. Why don't you go and copy them now? While Your Highness is still in the palace, you can send them to him. A Qiao is Your Highness's disciple, so why not let him see you off?" After saying this, she turned to Sima Jun and said, "I don't know what Your Highness means..."

Sima Jun said, "How dare I trouble Mr. Sun? I will send a clerk to your house to search your family."

Sun Nian said hurriedly, "Don't bother me, don't bother me. I never give my father's manuscripts to others to copy."

Sima Jun looked humble and bowed to Sun Nian: "Thank you, sir."

Sun Nian hurriedly returned the greeting: "Your Highness is very polite."

After saying this, he declined again and went to the study.

Li's face was full of smiles as she asked Sun Qiao to send Sima Jun off. Sun Qiao agreed, but then she nudged Sun Wei and said, "I thought I heard Ah Huang barking outside the door just now. He must have escaped again. Go and catch him."

Ah Huang is the cat raised by Li.

Sun Qiao was clearly about to go out, but he asked her to catch a cat... Sun Wei grumbled in her heart, but did not refuse. She looked at Sima Jun and went out together.

Sima Jun did not want the Sun family's residence to be too conspicuous, so the carriage was parked far away, and after leaving the house, one had to cross a street.

It was already dark and curfew time, and there were no pedestrians on the streets.

Sun Qiao was very tactful. He followed Deng Lian and the others about ten steps behind, chatting and laughing.

Sima Jun personally carried the lantern and walked in front with Sun Wei.

"I originally came here to propose marriage today." Sima Jun said directly.

Sun Wei looked at the lights in the houses along the road and said, "Oh."

Sima Jun turned to look at her: "You didn't ask me why I didn't mention it? Do you think I'm joking?"

"You're not the type to joke around, so there must be a reason for not mentioning it."

"Why don't you ask what the reason is?"

"What is it?"

Sima Jun: “…”

"How could there be a heartless woman like you in this world?" After a moment of silence, he finally couldn't stand it anymore.

Sun Wei pursed her lips. "It was His Highness who proposed marriage, and now it's His Highness who's not mentioned it. Even so, I have no complaints. Your Highness really won't find another woman as tolerant and generous as this one."

She spoke with such confidence that Sima Jun was stunned.

"Your Highness, do you deny it?"

Sima Jun thought for a moment and said, "It is undeniable."

Sun Wei looked at him: "So why didn't Your Highness mention it?"

"After I sent the letter, I felt something was amiss. Although you and I are very different from others, since we are discussing marriage, we still need to follow the proper etiquette. Without a matchmaker, it's not customary. So, I went to find my master."

"The Grand Tutor is in Xunyang?" Sun Wei was surprised.

"He arrived two days ago," Sima Jun said. "Master's health has been failing again recently. The doctor said he'll probably die this winter. He wants to be buried on Mount Lu, so I've placed him in Xunyang Palace."

Not only Sun Wei, but everyone else had already prepared for Zhou Chang's death. Therefore, Sima Jun was quite calm when he spoke about it today.

"Has the Grand Tutor agreed?" Sun Wei asked.

"He reminded me of something. Lü Qiuyan and I will eventually fight, and the outcome is still undecided. If I lose, you will be implicated for the rest of your life." He stopped and looked at her, "Ah Wei, will you wait for me?"

The dim light of the lantern reflected his determined eyes, and Sun Wei felt her heart beating faster again.

She looked away and continued walking forward: "If I agree, and His Highness marries someone else in the end, wouldn't I be at a loss?"

Sima Jun suddenly grabbed her hand and asked her to stop.

He said in a very serious tone, "I said I would marry you, and I will marry you. I will never break my promise."

His scorching gaze and serious look made Sun Wei feel uncomfortable.

Seeing that Sun Wei didn't say anything, he said again: "If you don't believe me, I will swear."

Sun Wei hurriedly said, "Didn't I say I don't believe it? Why are you making such a random oath out of the blue?"

Seeing him staring straight at her, Sun Wei felt a burning sensation on her face and turned away. "You know I'm a cunning person. If you change your mind, I have plenty of ways to cause unrest in His Highness's home."

Sima Jun looked at her and finally smiled.

"What are you laughing at?" Sun Wei felt increasingly embarrassed. "If you laugh again, I'll have to go back."

Sima Jun quickly pulled her back and said, "Walk with me for a while. I don't know when we'll meet again."
