Chapter 1: Transmigrated

Qingcheng.

The summer sun is blazing.

Gu Wei hurried to the company for the interview, braving the increasingly scorching sun overhead.

After graduating from university, he lost his job and broke up with his girlfriend after working for just over six months.

Jobs are hard to find, but wallets are getting thinner and thinner.

So he set up a stall to sell watches.

Then, when a suitable job opportunity comes along, I'll go for an interview.

I don't feel as anxious or stressed as before.

Gu Wei glanced down at the time, his face showing anxiety.

Worried about being late, I quickly changed my route and took a shortcut, jogging into a small alley.

Sudden.

It feels like sweat has gotten into my eyes!

The stinging pain made it impossible for him to open his eyes.

Gu Wei hurriedly stopped and wiped his sweat.

Before he could even pull out the tissue, he was dumbfounded!

One moment they were clearly in a bustling alley in the city, but now they have become a forest surrounded by lush trees.

The sky was a vibrant blue, as if it had been photoshopped, and unknown little birds were chirping away. The air was incredibly fresh.

Everything felt so unreal.

grass!

He's transmigrated?!

However, there was no drunkenness, no car accident, no falling objects from a height, and no system notification.

He was just wiping his sweat!

"Comrade, you're not from around here, are you?"

The sudden sound of voices in his ear startled Gu Wei, who was immersed in chaotic thoughts, so much so that his heart almost stopped!

Only then did he notice a man standing under a large tree not far away, dressed in dark blue clothes and carrying a willow basket.

The other person was probably in his forties or fifties, with a square face, thick eyebrows, big eyes, and a scruffy beard, making him look somewhat unkempt.

This person is called Comrade, and his clothes are quite vintage. Could it be that he has traveled back decades?

Seeing that he didn't answer, the man took a few steps forward, looked him up and down, and asked again, "Are you from outside the mountains?"

Gu Wei glanced at his white T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, and quickly suppressed the turmoil in his heart, making up a lie: "Yes, I'm from outside the mountains. I heard there are a lot of good things in the mountains, so I went in to take a look, but I got lost."

The man, speechless, muttered, "You're from out of town and you dare to wander around in the mountains? You've got some nerve! Don't you know that a few days ago, the black bears on this mountain stripped someone bare, even licking off their eyes and nose?"

There are even wild animals roaming here!

Gu Wei was utterly shocked!

Just imagining it sent chills down his spine and made his face ache terribly.

What happened to that person later?

The man sighed, "I pretended to be dead, which saved my life! But I was disfigured and ruined. I'm still in a hospital down the mountain..."

"That was terrifying! But being alive is a blessing in disguise."

Gu Wei felt a wave of lingering fear.

If I hadn't met this guy and had been wandering aimlessly in the mountains, who knows what might have happened?

The man nodded in agreement: "That's true, it's better to live a miserable life than to die a good death. You're lucky you ran into me today, otherwise you would have gotten lost in the mountains. Even if you met me, you wouldn't have been able to find your way out, and you'd be more experienced than us mountain folk... Come with me."

Gu Wei thanked him sincerely, "Thank you, brother."

However, this angered the man.

"You look tall and handsome, probably in your early twenties, about the same age as my youngest son. Don't call me 'big brother,' call me 'uncle'!"

Gu Wei readily agreed: "Uncle."

"That's right! My name is Zhao Dajiang, what's yours?"

Gu Wei could tell that this uncle was a good person, so he gave his real name: "My name is Gu Wei."

Zhao Dajiang smacked his lips: "Your name is quite nice. Where outside the mountains are you from? Judging from your clothes and appearance, you don't seem to be from the countryside; you look like you're from a big city."

"Uncle Zhao, you guessed right."

As for where it came from, Gu Wei was afraid of giving himself away, so he naturally dared not make things up.

Fortunately, Zhao Dajiang was quickly distracted and did not delve any further into the matter.

Gu Wei subtly extracted a lot of information from him.

This is Qingfeng Forest Farm, located deep in the Lesser Khingan Mountains.

Many things are now rationed, and people's monthly wages are generally only a few dozen yuan, so there is not enough food to eat.

It has been confirmed that I have traveled back several decades to an era when people lacked food and clothing.

Gu Wei's feelings were incredibly complicated.

He followed behind Zhao Dajiang, secretly pondering what to do next.

Having arrived here in the 21st century, my household registration and academic qualifications are invalid, and I have no skills to rely on.

I felt a little more at ease after touching the backpack behind me.

Fortunately, the watches I had sold at the stall came along with me.

In addition, he is healthy and has some strength, so he shouldn't starve and should be able to survive.

In any case, he would be an orphan in modern times.

Since we're already here, let's make the best of it.

Zhao Dajiang estimated that he travels very fast because he spends most of his time walking in the mountains and forests.

Gu Wei didn't have time to think about anything else and followed closely behind, stumbling along.

Finally, they reached the foot of the mountain.

Zhao Dajiang pointed to a group of bungalows and said, "Xiao Gu, come with me to my house. Have some water to soothe your throat before you go."

Gu Wei had no idea where he was going next, so he readily agreed.

"Alright, Uncle Zhao, then I'll take the trouble to bother you."

As the two approached, Gu Wei noticed that the houses were not very tall, and were made of planks and mud, with wooden poles sparsely arranged around them. Some houses had stacks of firewood next to their gates.

Along the way, we encountered several elderly women with bound feet sitting outside a gate, chatting and picking wild vegetables.

They were mostly wearing drab gray jackets and trousers, with their hair tied up in a bun at the back of their heads. They had dark skin and wrinkled faces.
