Because today is New Year's Day, schools and some organizations have given students a day off.
Gu Wei and his group had just finished breakfast when a number of people came to the store to buy things.
Later, customers kept coming in, and seeing that the group was very busy, Gu Wei didn't rush to leave.
When the crowd thinned out, Gu Wei suddenly saw Zhao Dajiang carrying a rolled-up quilt through the window covered with plastic film. He immediately got up and went outside.
"Uncle Zhao is here."
Zhao Dajiang had a dog-skin hat on his head but no scarf. His face was a little red from the cold. He said with a smile, "I was thinking you hadn't gotten up yet or weren't home."
"Get into the hospital quickly."
Gu Wei couldn't help but laugh; everyone knew he loved to sleep in late.
As he spoke, he went over and opened the door.
Zhao Dajiang pushed the cart into the doorway.
Gu Wei's gaze fell on the bulging floral quilt, and he asked curiously, "What's that on the back of your car?"
As Zhao Dajiang untied the belt made from an inner tube tire, he said, "These are leafy greens I just picked from the greenhouse. I figured since it's New Year's Day, your family must have bought a lot of good food, so I got you some lettuce and cilantro..."
Gu Wei was both touched and helpless.
During the harsh winter, most families mainly eat potatoes, radishes, cabbage, and pickled vegetables, making these fresh and tender green vegetables seem very scarce and precious.
"Uncle Zhao, we can't eat much, you should keep it to sell for money."
Zhao Dajiang picked up the rolled-up quilt. "Don't rush to sell it, there's plenty more. Besides, given our relationship, why are you being so polite with me?"
After he said that, Gu Wei couldn't say anything else.
"Alright, then I won't stand on ceremony with you. Invite Aunt Zhao and the others over for dinner tonight."
Gu Jianguo had just thawed a lot of chicken, fish, pork, and wild game, so even with a large group, they could eat a few more dishes.
Zhao Dajiang thought for a moment and didn't refuse, "Okay, let's have a good drink together then."
After entering the house, open the outer quilt.
It was wrapped inside by an old cotton-padded jacket.
Zhao Dajiang flipped through it and smiled with satisfaction, "Not bad, not frozen at all."
Gu Wei glanced at the dishes and saw that there were quite a lot. He immediately had an idea and suggested, "With so many dishes, let's have hot pot."
"Sure." Ever since Zhao Dajiang had hot pot at Gu Wei's house that time, he had tried to make it at home, but it didn't taste as good.
After Zhao Dajiang left, Gu Wei put on his hat and leather gloves, pushed his bicycle out the door, and planned to go to the market to buy some mutton.
Since November 4, when the Special Economic Zone Daily published a headline news item stating that, with the approval of higher authorities, starting from November 1, the Special Economic Zones would abolish grain, oil, and meat ration coupons, implement negotiated pricing, and open supply policies.
The forest area followed suit and abolished meat rationing.
As a result, there are now several more meat vendors in the market, and as long as it's not too late, you can buy meat anytime, which is much more convenient.
Furthermore, the meat from this period was much more flavorful than that from animals raised on modern feed.
Gu Wei locked the door and just as he straddled his bicycle, Gu Hongjie ran out of the store, bringing with him a cloud of hot air.
"Where are you going on your bicycle?"
Gu Wei said with a smile, "Let's go to the market to buy mutton, and have hot pot tonight."
Gu Hongjie said urgently, "I'll go with you."
"Let's go then." Gu Wei's cycling skills were decent, and the roads had become somewhat sturdy after the heavy snow a few days ago, so carrying someone wouldn't be a problem.
"Okay, then wait for me for a moment."
Watching Gu Hongjie, wearing a cotton-padded jacket and with his neck hunched, run back into the house beaming, Gu Wei smiled and shook his head.
Soon, Gu Jianguo also came out of the store.
"Want some hot pot for dinner?"
Gu Wei nodded, "Yes, Uncle Zhao brought over a lot of green vegetables."
Gu Jianguo grumbled, "This Dajiang, sigh... I'll make something simple for lunch, and we'll eat the other stuff tomorrow."
"Okay, it won't spoil anyway. I'll probably have to eat in the city for lunch."
With business so good here, the business in the city must be doing just as well. Plus, it's a holiday, so Gu Wei plans to go over and treat them to a meal as a treat.
"Okay, go ahead. We'll take care of things at home."
As soon as Gu Jianguo finished speaking, Gu Hongjie, dressed neatly, appeared.
Although he had become round and chubby, it did not affect his movements at all, and he nimbly climbed onto the rear rack.
"Hold on tight?" Gu Wei asked with a smile.
"It's settled." Gu Hongjie then said to Gu Jianguo, "Dad, we're leaving."
Gu Jianguo waved to them with a smile, then turned and went into the store.
Gu Wei breathed in the crisp, cold air and slowly rode his bicycle.
The tires crunched and groaned as they drove through the snow.
Gu Hongjie wrapped his arms around his waist and hummed a song happily.
Gu Wei saw pedestrians dressed in Yangko dance costumes on the street and casually asked, "Why didn't you participate in the district's New Year's Day performance?"
Gu Hongjie raised his chin, "We still have to rehearse every day, which takes up too much time. Besides, singing in a large chorus is boring, I'd rather sing solo."
Gu Wei was in front, so he couldn't see Gu Hongjie's expression, but he could guess from his tone that he was very confident.
"Yeah, it's really no fun when a bunch of people sing together."
"Yeah, that's what I think..."
The two chatted all the way and soon arrived at the market.
Beef and mutton are more expensive than pork, so not many people buy them.
Seeing that there were still plenty of lamb chops and lamb legs on the stall, Gu Wei simply bought them all.
The stall owner recognized Gu Wei, knowing he was the owner of the clothing store. He weighed the items and calculated the price with a smile, even rounding down the amount at the end.
