Chapter 132 Playing by Unconventional Rules

There were three tables set up for the meal.

There were two tables on the floor and one table on the kang (a heated brick bed).

Each table serves 12 dishes, eight meat dishes and four vegetable dishes.

Gu Wei was pushed forward by the crowd to speak.

He didn't refuse, but generously raised his glass and said with a smile, "In the new year, I wish everyone all their wishes come true and that life gets better and better! And when you get home, please don't be shy, eat and drink well."

No sooner had he finished speaking than bursts of laughter erupted, nearly lifting the roof off.

It's said that alcohol is made from grains, and the more you drink, the younger you become.

Gu Wei didn't realize it yet.

They were all clinking glasses and drinking, their faces flushed from the alcohol.

Everyone knew he couldn't hold his liquor, so no one pressured him to drink more.

So, after drinking more than half a jin of baijiu, Gu Wei began to focus on eating his food.

He had a particular fondness for Gu Jianguo's braised pork, which was served with fragrant white rice. It was so delicious that he ate two bowls of rice.

After the meal, the bowls on the table were quickly cleared away and replaced with tea.

They chatted to sober up, and then set up two more card games.

Gu Wei was feeling sleepy after the meal and didn't participate, so he went back to his room to sleep.

When Gu Wei woke up.

It was completely dark outside.

In the courtyard, the large red lanterns hanging there swayed in the howling north wind.

He had just woken up and was still a little sleepy.

After a while, I felt much more awake.

After leaving the house, Gu Wei went to the next room.

They discovered that Li Bin and his friends were playing cards in the west room, and Gu Hongjie even joined in.

Gu Wei smiled and went into the east room first.

Gu Jianguo and Zhao Dajiang were playing mahjong.

Gu Jianguo discarded a nine of bamboo and asked with a chuckle, "Awake?"

Gu Wei smiled and nodded, "Yes. I just woke up."

"Brother Gu, do you want to play? Or I can go down."

As Zhao Zhengyuan was speaking, he tried to get up, but Gu Wei reached out and pressed him down.

"You play, I don't want to play mahjong. Have Dazi and the others left?"

"They're gone. Yingzi's older sister-in-law is coming back from Nanshi tomorrow," Zhao Dajiang said with a chuckle.

Gu Wei knew that the second day of the Lunar New Year was usually the day when married women returned to their parents' home.

Zhao Dajiang's other two daughters and sons-in-law will also bring their children down from the mountain tomorrow.

After that, Gu Wei went to the west room.

Gu Hongjie patted the small blanket that had bulged in front of him and showed off to Gu Wei, "Look, I won!"

Gu Wei glanced at Li Bin, Zhou Kai, and Liang Weibing, and knew perfectly well that this was just adults playing with children.

"You're really amazing."

Gu Hongjie shook his head and laughed, "Don't look down on me just because I didn't get a coin. I was still pretty lucky."

Gu Wei couldn't help but chuckle and ruffled his hair again.

Li Bin and the others also smiled.

Everyone was waiting for Gu Wei to get up before eating, so Li Guizhi and Tang Jiamei quickly heated up the food.

None of them were outsiders.

Finally, all the dishes I made yesterday and today were served, making a total of 16 dishes.

Then, it was time for another round of eating and drinking.

After drinking like this, Gu Wei still felt the taste of alcohol in his mouth when he woke up the next day, and didn't want to touch alcohol for several days.

Today is the second day of the Lunar New Year, a day traditionally for parents to visit their children's parents' home.

Li Guizhi had no family home to return to.

Gu Wei was afraid that the sight of the movie would remind his grandmother of her unhappy memories, so after breakfast, he suggested that they go to see a movie together.

In the 1980s, people had very few entertainment options.

Movie theaters are definitely the most popular places.

Since they ran into Li Guilong and his friends, who were selling melon seeds, outside the movie theater, the group hadn't been to the movies in a long time.

Li Guilong had visited the house a few times, but he hadn't seen him since.

Privately, he had inquired about it with Gu Jianguo.

Naturally, he also learned that Gu Jianguo had used the villagers to bring the couple back.

Therefore, Gu Wei's suggestion received a positive response.

Chinese New Year is late this year, and it's already late February, so the weather has warmed up quite a bit.

The family of four, all dressed in their best clothes and not so heavily disguised, walked to the movie theater.

Before they even reached their destination, they could see a large crowd gathered near the movie theater entrance.

Gu Jianguo remarked, "I didn't expect there to be so many people during the Spring Festival. I thought everyone would be visiting relatives and friends today, and there wouldn't be many people."

Li Guizhi pursed her lips and remained silent.

Gu Wei noticed that many of the people there were couples, and he smiled and analyzed, "Maybe it's not lunchtime yet, so they came to watch a movie."

“That makes sense.” Gu Hongjie looked at Gu Wei and said, “I wonder how long we’ll have to wait before we can see it.”

Gu Wei patted his little shoulder, "Let's go buy tickets first."

A long queue formed at the ticket window.

But it's quite fast.

The two continued walking forward with the flow of people, and soon it was their turn.

I saw that the movie "Yamaha Fish Stall" was showing today, and it was playing right after the last screening ended.

Gu Wei bought four movie tickets.

He did some research before watching the movie.

The film tells the story of Ah Long, a delinquent youth, who, after being released from detention, sees his old classmate running his own stall and thinks it's a good way out. So he sells his valuables, borrows some money, buys a Yamaha motorcycle, and then runs a small Yamaha fish stall with his friend and girlfriend.

However, Ah Long was only thinking about how to make money and get rich, and he did things by any means necessary, which ruined the reputation of the fish stall. As a result, the three of them fell out and went their separate ways.
