Chapter 137 Buying a House

The next day, Gu Wei calculated the time to get off the bus before carrying canned cigarettes, alcohol, and pastries to Xu Kailin's house.

The Xu family's gate was wide open.

In the center of the yard, a man with a pencil tucked behind his ear was doing woodworking. Besides some wood, there was a pile of wood shavings on the ground.

Gu Wei felt that the man looked somewhat like Xu Kailin, and guessed that he might be his brother.

"Excuse me, is Xu Kailin home?"

The man sized up Gu Wei and figured that he was a wealthy person just by looking at his demeanor and clothes. His gaze then fell on the things Gu Wei was carrying, and he immediately smiled.

"Are you looking for my third son? He went to the neighbor's house. Come inside and wait a moment, I'll have the kids go find him for you."

"Okay, thank you."

Gu Wei thanked the man politely and then followed him into the house.

The condition of the house has changed since my last visit.

The color television set on the cabinet was particularly eye-catching.

A little boy, probably six or seven years old, was engrossed in watching TV and didn't even react when they came in.

Xu Kaisong stepped forward and patted him on the shoulder. "Dabao, go to Old Chu's house and find your third uncle. Tell him that someone from his family is looking for him."

Da Bao reluctantly agreed, then glanced back at the TV a couple more times as he walked away before jogging off.

"This child is so engrossed in watching TV."

"Kids are all like that."

"I am Xu Kaisong, Xu Kailin's elder brother. What is your surname?"

"My surname is Gu."

"Ah, I've heard of you. You've been to my house before."

Xu Kaisong hurriedly took out half a pack of cigarettes from his jacket pocket and gestured to Gu Wei.

Gu Wei waved his hand, "Thank you, but I don't smoke."

Xu Kaisong was extremely curious about Gu Wei. "I heard you deal in clothing? Is it as profitable as selling watches?"

"Probably not." Gu Wei could tell from his reaction that Xu Kailin hadn't mentioned the watch to his family either.

Xu Kaisong licked the cigarette before lighting it with a match. "I think so too! But selling clothes is legal, no one's arresting you! Hey, you've heard about my brother's situation, right?"

Gu Wei didn't notice what kind of cigarette the other person was smoking, but it was quite strong and a bit pungent. "I've heard about it."

"What a disaster! We didn't even have a proper New Year! And his girlfriend broke up with him too!"

Gu Wei had already heard about this from Li Bin.

So there was no surprise at all.

However, Xu Kailin's tone and expression were a bit puzzling to him, and he seemed to feel a little regretful.

If you don't flaunt this kind of person, why would you keep them around for the New Year?

fortunately.

The two chatted awkwardly for a while before Xu Kailin ran back from outside.

"Brother Gu, why didn't you send me a telegram or call me in advance? I could have picked you up at the station."

Gu Wei didn't come by train at all, so there was no need for someone to pick him up at the station.

"It was just a spur-of-the-moment decision. Besides, it's not like I can't find anyone, and I don't need to answer every time; it's too much trouble."

Xu Kailin naturally knew that Gu Wei had come to see the house, so he rushed back to another room to change his clothes.

Then they left together.

Xu Kaisong followed him enthusiastically all the way to the gate.

Even after they had walked a distance, the other person was still standing in the same spot.

Gu Wei turned around and saw him, casually asking, "How's your relationship with your older brother?"

Xu Kailin chuckled sarcastically, "My brothers and I are just like that. He took over my dad's job as a factory worker, and when I returned to the city from the countryside as an educated youth, he looked down on me. But later, seeing that I was making money through my own shady dealings, his attitude towards his wife completely changed. My parents also sided with him, and in the end, I even paid the fine for our second child being born in violation of the one-child policy..."

Gu Wei listened with deep emotion.

At the same time, I felt that Xu Kailin was too attached to family ties and was too much of a saint.

If this happened to someone else, they probably wouldn't pay the money.

Xu Kailin helped find two houses that could be transferred: a dormitory-style apartment building allocated by his work unit and a bungalow with a small courtyard.

The two went to the nearest building first.

The exterior walls are made of red bricks and the building is four stories high.

The stairs and corridors are on the outside.

It must be very cold in winter.

Gu Wei stood downstairs, looking up at the viewer with a somewhat subtle expression.

Because its appearance is almost identical to the 40-square-meter house where Ma Dongmei lived in the movie "Goodbye Mr. Loser".

I wonder if the internal layout is similar.

The person selling the house is a retired elderly man, and his house is located in the middle of the third floor.

They arrived quickly upon hearing the news.

After going upstairs and looking around, Gu Wei couldn't say he was very satisfied.

The walls of the room were yellowed, and the floor was still cement.

The green window has a broken pane of glass.

After buying it, you'll definitely need to do some simple tidying before you can move in.

But in this day and age, there are very few houses that can be transferred.

Moreover, the price of the house was negotiated down to five thousand, which is not considered expensive.

Therefore, Gu Wei made the purchase decision very quickly and decisively.

This surprised both the homeowner and Xu Kailin.

Fearing that Gu Wei might act impulsively and regret it later, Xu Kailin quickly pulled him aside to talk.

"Brother Gu, won't you reconsider? Buying a house is a big deal. I've been thinking about buying a house for months now, and I haven't found one that I really like."

Gu Wei knew that Xu Kailin meant well, but their situations were different.

"No need to think about it anymore, I think this house is pretty good."

"Alright then." Seeing that he had made up his mind, Xu Kailin didn't try to persuade him any further.

I've arranged a time with the homeowner to complete the property transfer tomorrow.
