Chapter Eighty-Nine: Schemes

After seeing Gu Hongjie off, Gu Wei ran into Lin Yu, who was also seeing someone off, as she was leaving the school.

Lin Yu subconsciously tugged at her clothes, "Brother Gu."

"Hmm." Gu Wei didn't notice her subtle movement and casually asked, "Are there many people on the small plane?"

Lin Hang only attended school for a little over a year before dropping out, so he has to start school again from the second grade.

Fortunately, in this era, some children start school late, some as young as nine or ten, and Lin Hang was small and thin, so he didn't stand out much.

Lin Yu hurriedly smiled and said, "There are quite a lot, probably forty or fifty people."

The two walked and talked as they left the school gate.

The First Primary School is very close to my home; it only takes a few steps to get there.

Gu Wei didn't think anything of it, but Lin Yu secretly regretted that the journey together was too short.

In the back room, Gu Jianguo was bent over, busy at the stove.

Seeing Gu Wei return, she asked helplessly, "Did that brat bother you again?"

Gu Wei vehemently denied it, saying, "No."

Gu Jianguo sighed, "Nothing at all. How could I not know my own child? It's because you've been too good to him. Now, he probably holds a much higher place in your heart than me or your great-grandmother."

Gu Wei was amused by his vivid expression, and the slight complexity she had felt earlier vanished instantly.

Worried that Gu Wei wouldn't eat well on the road, Gu Jianguo fried the dumplings he had made that morning in oil and put them in an aluminum lunchbox.

I also specially made a stack of scallion pancakes, fried seven or eight bright orange eggs, made meat sauce, and washed a lot of drought-resistant cucumbers grown in the garden.

Seeing that the food was piling up and there was no way he could finish it all, Gu Wei stopped him, saying, "Grandpa, that's enough."

"Take extra with you, on the train..."

Just then, a commotion suddenly broke out outside, and someone was calling out for Guizhi.

Gu Jianguo's expression immediately changed, and he put down the aluminum lunchbox in his hand and ran out.

Gu Wei guessed it was another relative from his grandmother's side, and frowned in displeasure, quickly following closely behind.

Outside the gate, besides Li Guizhi and her two companions, and some neighbors who came out after hearing the commotion, there was also a man and a woman, two strangers.

The man was about forty years old, dressed like a farmer, with dark skin, and his features vaguely resembled Li Guizhi's.

The woman looked younger, with a large face, small eyes, and a crooked mouth; she didn't seem like someone easy to get along with.

Gu Jianguo arrived at Li Guizhi's side first, patted her arm reassuringly, and then shouted at them with a stern face, "Why aren't you staying in the countryside? What are you trying to do here?"

Gu Wei stood on the other side of Li Guizhi, looking at the two people with cold eyes. He had already roughly guessed their identities. He guessed that these were his grandmother's terrible brother and sister-in-law.

According to the grandparents, of the five children in the Li family, only two are still alive.

Furthermore, they had already severed all ties.

Their sudden appearance here must have been fueled by the Yuan family.

The appearance of the grandfather and grandson made Lin Yu and Zhao Zhengying, who had previously protected Li Guizhi like her own right arms, secretly breathe a sigh of relief.

Li Guilong didn't answer Gu Jianguo's question, but instead gave Gu Wei a fawning smile, "This young man is truly promising at such a young age. I'm your great-uncle's brother-in-law..."

Gu Wei looked at him coldly and said in a rude voice, "I've never heard of that!"

Seeing that Li Guilong was still trying to get close to Gu Wei, Gu Jianguo became even more furious: "Stop trying to associate yourself with my family! What the hell are you here for?"

Li Guilong could only force a smile: "We heard from our third aunt and the others that you're doing quite well here, so we thought we'd come and see if you could find us some work too! After all, blood is thicker than water. Guizhi and I are siblings from the same mother, blood is thicker than water."

Upon hearing that it was indeed the Yuan family who were behind this, Gu Wei's face darkened even more.

At the same time, I'm glad I haven't left yet, and I just made it in time.

If any problems arise, they can be resolved promptly.

Gu Jianguo cursed, "Go to hell with your own siblings! You treated Guizhi so badly back then, almost marrying her off to a cripple, and now you still have the nerve to come here! Get the hell out of here! Or don't blame me for beating you up!"

Li Guilong had been thoroughly beaten by Gu Jianguo, so when Gu Jianguo glared at him, Li Guilong instinctively flinched.

Seeing her husband's dejected state, Guan Xiaolan immediately stepped forward, "What are you doing? You've gotten addicted to hitting people! But we had no choice back then, since Dad fell off the mountain, and we were dirt poor, we couldn't afford medical treatment! Besides, when we found out you two were together, we..."

Gu Jianguo interrupted her directly, "Don't use the old man who's already in the ground as a raft. We all know what really happened back then. We're busy and don't have time to deal with you. Get out of here!"

Li Guizhi also spoke with an angry expression: "We stopped associating with each other in the village before, and it's no use for you to come looking for us no matter who you listen to! If you have any shame, just leave! Otherwise, if my Jianguo really lays a hand on someone, I'll just applaud and cheer, and I won't stop him!"

The neighbors who were watching the commotion also pointed and whispered about the two of them.

"How can you act like this as an older brother and sister-in-law! Are they even related?!"

"Yeah, I heard they're doing well, and they still come over? They must have some nerve!"

"..."

Li Guilong and Guan Xiaolan became the target of public criticism.

Knowing that continuing would be pointless, the two could only slink away.

Gu Wei and the others thanked their neighbors. Afterwards, Lin Yu and Zhao Zhengying went to watch the shop, and the three of them went back to the back room.

The neighbors didn't disperse; instead, they gathered together and continued their discussion.
