Chapter Forty-Five Unexpected

Gu Jianguo escorted Li Bin to the gate.

The two walked a little further away and started talking.

Gu Jianguo said gratefully, "Li Bin, thank you so much for your help in my time of need. We have some money now, so we'll pay you back the thirty yuan you owe."

As he spoke, he handed over the money he was holding in his hand.

Li Bin didn't accept the money: "Please don't be so polite with me. We've gotten along very well since we met, and my mom really likes your sister-in-law and Xiao Jie. Everyone has their share of troubles and misfortunes, so it's only right to lend a hand when you're in trouble. Besides, I can't take the money. If it weren't for you guys, my brother Gu wouldn't have given me this opportunity..."

Gu Jianguo forcefully shoved the money into Li Bin's hand: "One thing at a time. It's only right to pay back debts. If you don't accept it, don't blame me for speaking ill of you to Gu Wei."

Li Bin knew that the upright Gu Jianguo was not that kind of person at all.

But it's not a pretty sight to see two men tearing each other apart in the street over some money.

I had no choice but to reluctantly accept it for now, and I'll buy some things to return it later.

Gu Jianguo successfully paid back the money he owed, and he felt much more relaxed.

After Li Bin left, he entered the courtyard with light steps.

Li Guizhi knew from her husband's behavior that the matter had been resolved.

She also showed a relieved smile.

Now that they are debt-free, they are extremely grateful to Gu Wei.

Later that day, Gu Wei told Gu Jianguo and the others that he planned to take one-inch photos for the business license the next day, and also wanted to take a group photo with the three of them.

Gu Hongjie danced with joy.

Gu Jianguo and Li Guizhi were also very much looking forward to it.

Even when life was hard, they would still try to take one or two photos a year as a memento.

Now that conditions are better, I haven't even thought about taking photos.

The next day, the four of them got up early.

After breakfast, everyone changed into their favorite clothes and headed straight to the photo studio.

The photos that have been developed are still black and white, with jagged white borders.

They also offer hand-painting services, but the prices are not cheap.

After taking individual photos, they took a group photo together.

Gu Jianguo and Li Guizhi were sitting, while Gu Wei and Gu Hongjie stood behind them.

Looking at the camera, Gu Wei maintained a smiling expression, but his feelings were somewhat complicated and subtle, as well as an indescribable sense of satisfaction and happiness.

In modern times, he became a lonely figure.

In this time and space, with the company of grandparents and father, there is a warm home.

After taking photos, Gu Wei and the others went to the movie theater together.

The movie "Red Skirts Are Popular on the Street" is currently showing.

This film tells the story of Tao Xing'er, a female worker and young model worker at the Dafeng Cotton Mill in Haicheng in the early 1980s, and her fellow workers breaking through old ideas and pursuing a new life.

It can be said that "Red Skirts Are Popular on the Street" is another work that leads the fashion trend after "Romance on Lushan Mountain".

After the film's release, the "red dress" on the screen liberated Chinese women from monotonous and rigid clothing styles. Brightly colored dresses became a symbol of fashion for women on the streets, and wearing red dresses in summer and red down jackets in winter was especially fashionable.

Gu Wei brought so many dresses last time, which was largely due to the popularity of this movie, which is why they sold so well.

Gu Jianguo and his team had heard about it from others when they were selling goods.

But no one had seen it before, so they watched it very carefully.

After the screening ended, Gu Jianguo and his companions walked out of the cinema with the crowd, still feeling a bit unsatisfied.

Gu Hongjie even started humming a theme song from the movie.

"What is life? What is life? Life is a discordant song. Pain, loneliness, happiness, joy—that's life, that's life..."

Gu Wei was amazed by Gu Hongjie's learning ability and musical talent.

"You can sing it all now?"

Gu Hongjie scratched the back of his head sheepishly, "I've been a fast singer since elementary school."

Gu Jianguo and Li Guizhi took it for granted and didn't take it seriously.

Gu Wei looked at Gu Hongjie and thought about many things in an instant.

If he doesn't get into university in the future, he can be groomed to become a singer; the 1990s were the golden age of the music scene.

However, it is too early to think about these things now, and it also depends on his own choices and thoughts.

Gu Wei originally wanted to treat them to a big meal at a restaurant.

Gu Jianguo and his team, however, were addicted to selling goods and didn't want to miss out on this midday surge.

And I don't want Gu Wei to spend too much money.

Gu Wei could easily understand his grandparents' good intentions, and decided to talk about it another day when there was a chance.

They were chatting and laughing as they approached their home.

Gu Wei saw two people standing at the gate; they were Zhao Zhengying and Jin Hongda, a married couple.

When did you arrive?

Zhao Zhengying quickly replied, "I haven't been here long, Brother Gu."

Jin Hongda chuckled but didn't say anything.

Gu Wei could tell from Jin Hongda's expression that the watches must have sold well.

Gu Jianguo stepped forward to unlock the door, and everyone entered the courtyard together.

Zhao Zhengying looked at Gu Wei with gratitude in her eyes and said, "Brother Gu, thank you so much for giving my son Dazi this opportunity."

Gu Wei smiled and waved his hand: "No need to be so polite. Yuanzi already told me about it the other day. My great-uncle and his family are selling goods at the gates of several factories these days. If you have time, you can go with them and get some experience."

Zhao Zhengying also understood that no matter how many times she said thank you, it was not as good as repaying someone's kindness with practical actions.

"Great! I heard about this and that's why I came over so quickly. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to hold everyone back once the business opens."
