Chapter Sixty-Four: An Encounter

When Gu Wei returned to 84, it was already past 8 p.m.

As it turned out, he saw that not only Zhao Zhengying hadn't left.

Jin Hongda and Zhao Dajiang also came to the house.

"Uncle Zhao, when did you arrive?"

"They haven't been here long. They only found out about it late at night, so they hitched a ride down." Zhao Dajiang pointed at Zhao Zhengyuan and Jin Hongda and said, "From now on, they'll take turns staying at the hotel at night."

The two said in unison:

"Yes, Brother Gu."

"Don't worry, we'll definitely take good care of the store."

“Yingzi told me before that it’s really not necessary. Actually, someone helped me find someone to watch the shop…” Gu Wei could trust Hou Yongxian, but he wanted to observe the person Hou Yongxian brought before making a decision.

At first, everyone thought Gu Wei was just making excuses to avoid troubling them.

Later, upon hearing that there were indeed people there, he gave up on the idea.

After chatting for a while, Tang Jiamei hesitated for a long time before reluctantly mentioning the thoughts that had come to her in the past few days.

"Gu Wei, what do you think about your aunt opening a tailor shop down the mountain?"

Gu Wei smiled and said, "Of course. Ready-made clothes are expensive now, and there are still many people making clothes. If you have good skills, you'll be overwhelmed with work."

He knew that the 1980s and 90s were the best and most profitable time for tailor shops.

Tang Jiamei's confidence immediately increased: "When there is too much work to do, we can send it out to others. There are quite a few people in our forest farm who are good at their work, and there should be people like that down the mountain as well."

Zhao Dajiang smiled helplessly, "You don't know, ever since your aunt went back home on the day you opened your business, she's been single-mindedly focused on opening a shop. I thought our family's life was getting better and better, and we didn't need her to go through that hardship, but she just wouldn't listen."

Tang Jiamei said somewhat excitedly, "Life is getting better and better, but you all have things to do. Why should I be a housewife, spending all my time around the stove? Besides, my daughter-in-law might get pregnant any day. Can she stay cooped up in the forest farm forever? She has to come down the mountain for the sake of her grandson!"

Zhao Dajiang knew that what his wife had said many times was not without reason; the teaching quality at the forest farm was definitely not as good as that down in the mountains. However, he was still uneasy about opening a shop.

"Gu Wei, is opening a tailor shop really a viable business?"

Gu Wei looked at Zhao Dajiang and said confidently, "Uncle Zhao, it will definitely work."

Zhao Dajiang had complete faith in Gu Wei's judgment and insight, and gritted his teeth: "Alright, if you say it's okay, then let's do it!"

Seeing that Zhao Dajiang, who had some objections, was successfully persuaded by Gu Wei in just a few words, Tang Jiamei and the others were all smiles.

Later, while Zhao Zhengyuan and Jin Hongda were paying, Gu Wei brought up the fact that the watch voucher was about to be cancelled.

Instantly, the two men reacted much like Li Bin, panicking, "Brother Gu, what about the watch sale?!"

They even stopped going to work, just hoping to make more money by going to more places before the watch tickets were cancelled.

But then, a piece of news suddenly came, like a bolt from the blue.

"Don't worry."

Gu Wei repeated what he had told Li Bin, and only then did they feel a little relieved.

It was getting late, so the Zhao family quickly said goodbye and left.

The next day.

Gu Wei was still in bed and hadn't gotten up when Gu Hongjie mysteriously knocked on the door and entered the room.

"Have you forgotten something?"

Gu Wei yawned: "No, give me a hint."

Gu Hongjie stretched out his hand from behind his back and opened it to reveal a receipt. "Get the photos!"

Gu Wei slapped his forehead, realizing he had really forgotten about it.

"We'll go after we finish eating."

After the meal, the two went to the photo studio to pick up the developed photos.

Compared to the photos they initially took in the store.

Both Gu Wei and Gu Jianguo felt that the photos they took themselves after buying a camera were the best.

Many of his postures and expressions are more natural, and his eyes are full of vitality.

While the group was passing around the photos and commenting on them in the store, Hou Yongxian arrived with Lin Yu and Lin Hang.

The three of them, grandfather, grandson, and son, have not taken any photos since their reunion.

These past few years haven't been easy, and I haven't kept many photos.

Gu Wei noticed the deep envy and longing in the eyes of the three people, and asked Gu Hongjie to go to the back room to get the camera so he could take pictures of them.

Hou Yongxian carefully straightened his clothes.

Lin Yu and Lin Hang also carefully combed their hair with the combs that Li Guizhi had found for them.

Seeing how seriously they were preparing, Gu Wei also tried his best to take good photos.

After taking more than ten photos, Hou Yongxian said apologetically, "Gu Wei, that's enough. Don't waste any more film. Thank you so much."

Modern cameras are expensive, and film is also pricey.

The cheapest Lucky film costs 14 yuan, and developing a roll of film costs more than 10 yuan, so the cost of taking a roll of film is about 30 yuan.

Gu Wei didn't feel bad about the film; on the contrary, he was happy to do more for them, since he had gotten a great deal from Hou Yongxian.

"Grandpa Hou, don't be so polite. Since this roll is almost used up anyway, why not take a few more pictures and send them to be developed?"

Given the rare opportunity, Hou Yongxian was more than willing to take a few more photos with the two children: "Okay."

At the same time, she felt more and more that Gu Wei was a person she could befriend.

Lin Yu and Lin Hang were overjoyed and excited.

They've taken more photos than they have in their entire lives since they were little, not even as many as they've taken today.

When Gu Wei ran out of film, he wanted to take it to a photo studio to have the photos developed.

Hou Yongxian offered to give him money or go with him, but he refused both offers.

The forestry bureau's photo studio wasn't far from their home.

Gu Wei walked over, and as soon as he entered, he saw two girls with their backs to the door talking to the staff.

Gu Wei noticed with his sharp eyes that the different styles of red dresses they were wearing were all best-selling items in his store.

When the two turned around, Gu Wei immediately recognized that it was the younger sister of the boss of the state-run restaurant who had brought back her college classmate.

However, the place is not big, so it's normal to run into someone here by chance.

Qin Zhiman never expected to meet him here, and her eyes sparkled.

Pang Wenjing pushed up her glasses, somewhat surprised.

Gu Wei ignored their expressions, smiled slightly, and nodded as a greeting.

Then he walked up to the staff at the photo studio and took out a small brown paper bag.

The staff member, Zhou Daqiang, was very enthusiastic towards Gu Wei, a major customer who wanted his photos developed: "You've finished another roll of photos so quickly?"

They just picked up a bunch of photos this morning, and now they're back again.

"Yeah, I just took some photos for someone else." Gu Wei said as he handed the small bag containing the film to the other person.

After Zhou Daqiang took it, he put it away carefully, then picked up the receipt and pen and started writing quickly.

Qin Zhiman took a deep breath, mustered her courage, and asked Gu Wei, "Excuse me, do you rent out your camera?"
