Chapter Sixty-One Cooperation

The grandfather, grandson, and granddaughter breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that Gu Wei and the others were alright.

They, equally curious, inquired about what had happened.

Gu Wei then gave a brief explanation.

They were all deeply moved by what they heard.

Lin Yu and Lin Hang quickly went to the shop in front.

"Grandpa Hou, thank you for the jade pendant from yesterday."

If Gu Wei hadn't changed his plans at the last minute, he would have intended to buy some meat and milk powder to bring back as gifts for them.

In this age of scarcity, sometimes these things are more useful than money.

Hou Yongxian waved his hand: "No need to be polite, it's just a little trinket. If you like it, I have many more."

Upon hearing this, Gu Wei's eyes lit up: "I do like them. If you're willing to part with some, I'd like to pay for them."

Hou Yongxian looked directly at Gu Wei: "May I ask if you're collecting this as a personal hobby, or are you doing it as a business?"

Gu Wei sensed that Hou Yongxian's question must have a follow-up, and frankly replied, "Both."

Hou Yongxian nodded slightly: "You are my family's benefactor, so I won't beat around the bush with you. I've heard about your business of collecting porcelain vases. Many of the people here are outsiders, and they don't actually have many old items."

Gu Wei had already suspected that his trip to the Zhang family would be discovered when Hou Yongxian told him that the old neighbor had taken in the siblings.

Moreover, he was well aware that this place was located in a remote forest area and there weren't many antiques.

However, without a household registration or a letter of introduction, how easy is it to go to another place?

Hou Yongxian changed the subject: "How about we, father and son, work together?"

Because of those three large bills, he felt that this young man was not only reliable in character and conduct, but also had extensive connections and money. Since he had the resources, he came up with this idea.

Gu Wei raised an eyebrow in surprise at first, then immediately suppressed his emotions and asked with a calm expression, "How do we plan to cooperate?"

"You provide the money, and I'll supply the goods. I can guarantee they're genuine," Hou Yongxian said hesitantly. "However, I also have a favor to ask, and I hope you can agree to it."

"Please speak." Although Gu Wei was very interested in the cooperation, he couldn't agree rashly and would have to decide based on the circumstances.

Hou Yongxian's aged face revealed a bitter expression: "To be honest, the only time the two children saw me was when Lin Yu was a child. Lin Hang is terrified of me. It's inconvenient for me to take them with me when I'm traveling around."

I've found a new place to stay, and the Lin family won't dare to cause any trouble. But a young girl with a sick child is a long shot... so I'd like to ask your family to help look after her while I'm away.”

Gu Wei thought it was something serious.

He already felt great sympathy for the siblings' background, and even if Hou Yongxian hadn't said anything, he couldn't have stood idly by when trouble came his way.

"no problem."

Hou Yongxian's face immediately lit up with joy.

He could tell that, apart from Gu Wei, everyone else in the Gu family was a good person.

So he felt at ease entrusting the people to them.

Next, the two discussed the details of their collaboration.

After that, Hou Yongxian didn't leave; he helped with whatever he could.

Even without the sale of the jade pendant and the cooperation, just the fact that he came to help out at his home would have made Gu Wei treat him to a good meal at noon.

However, going back to the modern era to buy meat is definitely not an option.

You could buy pre-cooked meat and vegetables at a state-run restaurant.

This way, Grandpa won't have to work so hard cooking in the sweltering heat.

Gu Weigang pushed his bicycle out of his front door, and Gu Hongjie rushed out of the shop.

Where are you going?

Gu Wei pointed to the several aluminum lunch boxes in the bicycle basket, "Going to a restaurant to buy groceries."

“Then I’ll go too.” Gu Hongjie said as he headed for the back seat of the car.

Gu Wei saw Lin Hang standing with one foot in and one foot out of the door, staring at him expectantly, and asked with a smile, "Do you want to go?"

Lin Hang was clearly surprised that Gu Wei would call him, and nodded vigorously with bright eyes.

"Then you can sit in the back." Gu Hongjie immediately went to the front and nimbly climbed onto the crossbar of the vehicle.

Gu Wei was perfectly aware of Gu Hongjie's little scheme, and suppressed a smile as he straddled the bicycle.

Once Lin Hang was settled in the back, he increased the speed of pedaling.

The clothing store was not far from the state-run restaurant.

So, they arrived at their destination very quickly.

The three parked their bicycles and went inside the shop, just in time to find a large pot of braised pork still cooking, so they had to wait patiently.

Xu Qiuhe, being such a well-informed person, how could she not know what happened at Gu Wei's shop?

After learning more details from Gu Wei, she exclaimed, "Brother, you're really lucky. Otherwise, even if they found out who did it later, they might not be able to recover much of the stolen goods."

Gu Wei nodded in agreement: "Yes."

Xu Qiuhe glanced around, moved closer to Gu Wei, and was about to speak.

Just then, a woman's voice rang out from outside the shop: "Sister, is the braised pork ready yet?"

Xu Qiuhe immediately replied, "Not yet, but it'll be soon. Xiaoyue, why don't you take your classmates inside and find a place to sit and wait? Sitting on the train for so long must be tiring..."

Gu Wei subconsciously turned his head to look towards the doorway.

Three young, beautiful, and stylishly dressed girls filed in.

When Gu Wei, who had seen all sorts of female celebrities in the modern world and was immune to beauty, finally saw the face of the girl in the pale yellow dress walking at the very back, a look of amazement flashed in his eyes.

He never imagined that there would be such a beautiful and elegant girl in the 1980s.
