Chapter Twenty-Three: It's Great

After hearing this, Gu Wei felt even more grateful to Li Bin and the Li family.

But his current persona is that of a relative he has never met.

You definitely can't show too much emotion.

Otherwise, it would easily arouse suspicion.

Li Bin, however, sensed that he understood the God of Wealth's meaning by observing his words and expressions.

Secretly pleased, he tactfully pulled his mother away first.

After everyone left, Gu Jianguo finally asked the question that had been on his mind.

"What's going on between you and Li Bin? He seems to respect you a lot."

Li Guizhi and Gu Hongjie were also looking at Gu Wei.

Gu Wei smiled and explained to them, "I deal in watches, and he got his hands on them before."

Gu Jianguo suddenly realized, "No wonder."

Then he sincerely praised, "You're really capable, kid. That watch isn't something just anyone can get their hands on!"

"It's alright, I just happened to have some connections."

Gu Wei already had a preliminary plan in mind for his grandfather and the others' future.

But we've only just recognized each other, so there's no rush to talk about it.

He asked casually, "By the way, Grandpa, did you register your household here?"

Gu Jianguo shook his head: "No, my household registration is still in the countryside. After the household responsibility system was implemented, the village allocated land to us, but farming alone isn't enough. The teaching quality of the village primary school isn't good either. Later, we heard that as long as you're willing to work hard, you can earn quite a lot doing odd jobs in the forest area, so we rushed over to one of your great-aunt's relatives..."

Gu Wei finally figured out why they were here.

I guess Grandpa and the others didn't stay long before leaving, which is why I never mentioned it to him.

Li Guizhi couldn't help but wipe away her tears again: "Actually, it's all because of me. If you had divorced me, your great-uncle could have transferred his household registration back to the city. And if I hadn't been sick and hospitalized, none of this would have happened..."

Gu Jianguo frowned unhappily and interrupted her, "Look at you, saying these things again! We are a complete family only when we are together. What would it mean if I left you and the two of you behind and went back to the city? Besides, those educated youth who returned to the city are also unemployed. Some of them have become tricycle drivers or street vendors... And what if you get sick? Who can eat grains and not get sick their whole life? If you are sick, we will get treatment! If I get sick one day, will you not care about me?"

Gu Hongjie also hugged his mother's arm: "Mom, please stop crying."

Then he nodded towards Gu Weinu.

Li Guizhi quickly wiped away her tears, "I'm so sorry, you must have seen this."

"It's alright, Grandma, we're all family."

Gu Wei could sense that his grandmother was not only physically ill, but also had some depression.

Ultimately, it all comes down to poverty.

Once things get better, everything will fall into place.

Although Gu Wei didn't want to be separated from them for even a moment, he still needed to buy the things, so he quickly said goodbye and left.

Gu Jianguo and his family of three saw Gu Wei off at the gate.

Li Bin was sitting on a large rock in front of the Li family's house. When he saw Gu Wei and the others come out, he quickly stood up.

Gu Wei turned to Gu Jianguo and said, "Grandpa, no need to see me off, I'll be back in a bit."

"Okay, then come back quickly."

After Gu Jianguo and the others returned to the courtyard, Li Bin immediately approached Gu Wei.

"Brother, I got the Moutai you wanted. I was just planning to try my luck near the station these next couple of days to see if I could find you. I never expected such a coincidence to happen."

Gu Wei said with emotion, "I didn't expect this either. Speaking of which, I'm so glad I met you."

Li Bin quickly waved his hand: "Brother, please don't say that. It's just that you two are destined to meet."

Gu Wei didn't continue the conversation about this matter, but instead changed the subject: "How much did you get a case of Moutai?"

Li Bin quickly replied, "Fifteen per bottle, twelve bottles per case, one hundred and eighty."

Gu Wei gained a new understanding of Li Bin's abilities, and his eyes showed more appreciation: "You did a very good job. I was right about you."

Li Bin received praise from the God of Wealth, which felt as refreshing as eating a watermelon soaked in well water on a hot summer day. He scratched the back of his head and smiled.

Gu Wei took out a wad of cash from his pocket and counted out thirty ten-yuan bills. "Keep the wine with you for now. Use the rest of the money to buy some rice, flour, cooking oil, and chicken, duck, fish, and meat for tomorrow's feast, and send them to my great-uncle's house."

Li Bin hesitated for a moment, but still reached out and took it: "Okay, big brother, don't worry, I will definitely get things done."

Gu Wei looked at him teasingly: "My uncle calls you 'uncle,' and you call me 'elder brother.' What kind of address is that?"

Li Bin couldn't help but laugh: "That's not the same thing. Everyone calls each other that. I still think it's better to call him Big Brother."

"Fine, whatever you say."

Gu Wei was too lazy to argue about the issue. "Do you have a bicycle at home?"

He didn't want to walk to the store to buy things, and there wasn't enough time to buy a bicycle now.

"Yes, I do, but my brother rode it to work." Li Bin hurriedly said, "Brother, wait for me a moment, I'll go borrow it from the neighbor."

"Okay." Gu Wei didn't stand on ceremony with him.

Li Bin was efficient; in just a few minutes, he brought out a 28-inch bicycle with a crossbar from his neighbor's house, which was three houses away.

Gu Wei took some time to get used to it before he could ride more and more steadily.

Once on the main road and seeing no one around, Gu Wei finally let loose and wept in the wind.

These are tears of joy.

He finally found his family in this time and space!

Although he had to impersonate someone else to claim kinship, Gu Wei believed that everyone has a heart.

In time, his grandparents will surely treat him like their own grandson.

He has a family now!

From then on, I was no longer all alone!
