Chapter Sixty-Eight: Not on the Same Path

Gu Wei's decision was made on a whim, without any prior preparation.

I was planning to find an opportunity to go back to Hyundai later and bring back some meat.

As a result, I overheard customers talking about how a family at Qianjin Farm had slaughtered a sheep.

He and Jin Hongda immediately rode their bikes over there.

Pork is currently 95 cents at grocery stores, while beef and mutton are slightly more expensive.

Seeing the sheep slaughtered by the villagers, all the meat and vegetables added up to about 40 or 50 kilograms.

Gu Wei bought it all for 1.8 yuan per jin.

After bringing it back, wash it, cut it into pieces, and marinate it with barbecue seasoning.

Jin Hongfei also rode his bike home to retrieve fishing tools and two small bundles of bicycle spokes used as skewers.

Compared to bamboo skewers, these iron skewers have better heat conductivity, so the meat cooks faster and tastes better.

In addition to meat skewers, Gu Jianguo and his team, under Gu Wei's direction, also skewered potato slices, chili peppers, corn, bread, and steamed bun slices.

There was plenty of orange soda, draft beer, and liquor.

Compared to the adults, Gu Hongjie and Lin Hang's reactions were more pronounced.

Playing in the river in the summer is one of our favorite things to do, and with so much delicious food to eat, the two of them happily wandered around inside and outside the house, eagerly anticipating their departure.

Finally, after finishing the busy work at noon, they locked the shop and headed straight for the river.

Gu Wei used his camera to record and capture many scenes along the way.

When they reached the river, many people were scattered along the riverbank and in the water.

There were also quite a few little boys who weren't wearing bitter tea hats, chasing each other and playing around.

Summer is hot and the sun is scorching, especially by the river.

They eventually chose to go to a shady spot under the bridge.

Gu Jianguo and Zhao Dajiang set up their equipment, built a stove, lit a fire, and burned charcoal.

Li Guizhi, Tang Jiamei, Zhao Zhengying, and Lin Yu sat together, eating meat skewers and chatting.

Gu Wei and a few other young men took nets and went into the river to catch fish.

Gu Hongjie and Lin Hang played in the shallow water by the river with old sieves and small buckets.

Fishing online can be really addictive.

Especially now that resources are plentiful, a single net cast yields a bountiful harvest. Watching all sorts of fish, big and small, splashing and jumping around, the excitement and joy are indescribable.

Gu Wei stayed in the water for more than half an hour before he was willing to go ashore to rest.

By this time, the charcoal fire was almost ready.

Gu Jianguo first put two skewers of meat on the grill and started grilling.

Soon, the oil dripped onto the glowing red charcoal, making a sizzling sound, and the aroma wafted out with the white smoke, making one's mouth water.

Gu Jianguo squinted, enduring the smoke and flames.

He occasionally flipped the two fan-shaped meat skewers in his hands, sprinkling chili powder and cumin when they were cooked to the perfect doneness.

When he felt it was about right, he picked out a skewer and said, "Gu Wei, you try it first, is it cooked?"

Gu Wei took it, blew on it to cool it down, and then took a bite. It was truly fragrant and delicious.

"It's done! Grandpa, you grilled it so well!"

Gu Jianguo was overjoyed to receive the praise, but he still modestly replied, "The ingredients you brought back from out of town are still the best."

"That's not true. The ingredients only make up 20%. Your skills are still the best."

Seeing Gu Hongjie craning his neck and opening his mouth to wait, Gu Wei stuffed the meat skewers into his hand and then called out, "The meat skewers are ready, everyone come and eat!"

After eating, Zhao Dajiang and the others all gave Gu Jianguo a thumbs up for his cooking skills.

"This is so delicious!"

"If these lamb skewers were sold, I'm sure someone would buy them."

"..."

Because there were so many people, the grilled food was gone in no time after being divided up.

Gu Jianguo started a new round of baking.

Gu Wei felt sorry for his grandfather and wanted to become a barbecue chef again, but was ruthlessly rejected.

Finally, Jin Hongfei, who has extensive experience in baking, stepped up.

Everyone sat together, enjoying the cool breeze from the river, eating, drinking, and chatting—it was incredibly pleasant and comfortable.

The aroma of barbecue wafted far and wide, making adults and children in the neighborhood drool.

Some curious people even came over, stood aside to smell the aroma and get a taste of it.

In fact, even in modern times, who can resist the temptation of barbecue?

However, there were quite a few onlookers, and none of them knew each other, so it was a problem to decide who to give the money to and who not to give it to, so it was better to ignore it.

suddenly.

Gu Wei saw two familiar figures standing behind the onlookers.

It was the girl and her classmate who wanted to borrow his camera at the photo studio.

I thought they had finished and gone home long ago, but I didn't expect them to still be here.

Gu Wei got up and went to Jin Hongfei to get four skewers of grilled lamb.

Then he walked towards the two of them.

Gu Wei's actions stunned everyone, and they forgot to chew the food in their mouths.

When he saw the direction he had gone, there stood two female college students who had bought things from the store, and he suddenly realized what had happened.

Seeing that Gu Wei seemed to be heading towards her, Qin Zhiman wanted to leave, but her legs felt like lead, her heart was pounding, and she was filled with uncontrollable anticipation.

Pang Wenjing was not oblivious; she had already guessed her friend's thoughts to some extent, and she chose to stay by her side and remain inactive.

Gu Wei walked up to them and said softly, "I'm sorry about yesterday."

Qin Zhiman was flattered and never expected him to say that. She waved her hands repeatedly and said, "It's okay, you don't need to apologize. I was being rash."

Gu Wei held out the lamb skewers in his hand: "Here, have a taste of these freshly grilled skewers."

Qin Zhiman wanted to refuse, but she was afraid of making the other party feel embarrassed.

Besides, the lamb skewers in front of me looked incredibly tempting, unlike anything I'd ever had before.

"Thank you." Her fingers trembled slightly as she took it, feeling as if her cheeks were being roasted in an oven, burning intensely.
