Chapter 24
This was the first time someone had invited her to her house to play. Jiang Rong subconsciously asked with some concern, "Your parents probably won't agree to us playing together, right?"
"You'd better tell them about me..."
After Jiang Rong finished speaking, she felt that what she said was a bit strange.
But before she could explain anything more, Lin Yue smiled naturally and said, "Okay, let's make it clear first. I don't mind these things. If you are afraid, but my family doesn't mind, then am I your best friend?"
Jiang Rong rubbed her red ears and said "hmm" softly. This was the first time she made friends with someone so formally. Although it seemed a bit strange, it didn't feel bad.
Lin Yue covered the microphone and said something, but soon moved closer to the microphone: "It's agreed. I'll send you the address. Do you want me to pick you up?"
Jiang Rong shook her head subconsciously, wanting to tell her that she also wanted to tell Shen Jianye, but then she thought about the old pervert nickname Lin Yue gave Shen Jianye, so she still didn’t say anything, but just said: “No, no.”
After she finished speaking, she hung up the phone, looked at the address link sent, pursed her lips, walked out of the room and looked around, and after finding that there was no one around, she knocked on Shen Jianye's door.
After knocking a few times and hearing no response, Jiang Rong thought that Shen Jianye was probably resting. She wanted to tinker with it herself, but Shen Jianye's door opened. The man who opened the door still had a gentle expression, but his pajamas made him look like he was about to go to sleep.
Jiang Rong quickly apologized: "I'm sorry, I don't know how to read this address."
Shen Jianye reached out to take the phone, helped her find the bus route, and sent himself a copy, asking as he sent it: "Whose house is this?"
Jiang Rong narrowed her eyes and said, "This is the address of my good friend Lin Yue, the girl you met at the school gate that day."
Shen Jianye also smiled: “Have you told her everything?”
Jiang Rong hummed softly, "It seems that because of her parents' occupations, she invited me to her home to play."
Shen Jianye didn’t quite understand, but he still reminded her: “If you encounter danger or feel uncomfortable, call me, and I will pick you up at six o’clock for dinner.”
Jiang Rong nodded: "Brother, you should go to bed quickly. We have to go to the coffee shop later. I'll leave first."
Shen Jianye waved his hand, closed the door, and returned to the bed. On the screen of his still-unlit phone, there were two provocative messages from a person named Shen, which had been sent ten minutes ago:
So this is the girl you said you would sponsor?
[She's definitely the one the old man likes, and she looks a lot like your former lover's sister, Xiao Yi. But this one is really pretty, and it's worth my time looking up her profile. If you don't want her anymore, remember to call me. I love saving these love-starved girls.]
Shen Jianye lowered his eyes to look at the screen, a trace of disgust flashed in his eyes, and his fingers tapped the keyboard, replying with only one word: [Get lost]
After sending the message, he turned off his phone, lay on the bed and covered his face and eyes with his arms. He had obviously come back early after dinner and finally had time to sleep, but now he couldn't fall asleep.
Jiang Rong didn't feel anything, but she always felt that it was not good to go empty-handed. After all, this was a crucial time for the two of them to become good friends. She looked at the only items on her table and thought of the mints that Sister Xiao Min gave her in the morning, but then she changed her mind and thought about Lin Yao saying that these were distributed for free at the entrance of the hotel and were very common. Jiang Rong became even more conflicted.
What's more, she was still at Shen Jianye's house and didn't have much to give away. Finally, after thinking about it, she remembered that Lin Yue's math grades were as bad as hers, so she brought the test papers from the daytime cram school.
But this is indeed the favorite thing of parents. Jiang Rong took the elevator to Lin Yue's door. Fortunately, someone at her part-time job had asked for door-to-door delivery. Jiang Rong didn't expect that Lin Yue's house would be here.
It's a high-end residential complex where both entry and exit must be registered, and each household has its own elevator.
But Lin Yue usually doesn't have that kind of airs at all.
Jiang Rong pursed her lips and knocked nervously at the door. Seeing Mother Lin, who was wearing a professional suit, opening the door, she smiled awkwardly and introduced herself: "Auntie, is this Lin Yue's house?"
Mother Lin's eyes widened. After a moment's pause, she took a pair of slippers from the cabinet, then turned around and called out, "Yueyue, Yangwa... no, your friend is here!"
Lin Yue hurried out of the room and pulled Jiang Rong to the sofa, muttering, "Mom, didn't I tell you not to say your nickname in front of others? It's very embarrassing."
Jiang Rong pursed her lips, feeling a little embarrassed, and quickly said, "But I think it sounds good. It's okay, I won't tell anyone."
Mother Lin narrowed her eyes and said bluntly, "Look at others, then look at yourself."
Jiang Rong lowered her voice and asked doubtfully, "Didn't you tell your mother about me?"
It was the first time she saw an aunt who was so kind to her and had such a good relationship with children.
When Lin Yue mentioned her mother, her mother did not refute her or say that she was disrespectful.
Lin Yue calmly grabbed the biscuits on the table and whispered to herself, "Yes, but my parents think a person's environment has nothing to do with their character. They trust my judgment of people, and they've seen all kinds of people in society."
"Besides, you and your parents are probably not as familiar with each other as I am with you, right?"
There was actually a little problem with what she said, but Jiang Rong thought about it carefully and realized that she really knew nothing about her parents' affairs, and now she was sitting in Lin Yue's house.
Lin Yue ignored Jiang Rong who was lost in thought and asked curiously, "What's your nickname?"
Jiang Rong subconsciously replied, "I don't even have a nickname."
After all, he was not born in love. So many things happened in his family when he was born. No one cared about him at all. It was a good thing to have a name.
Mother Lin smiled and didn't continue listening to their conversation: "Then Mom will go to work. Please be careful when you play."
Lin Yue said "Oh" casually, looked at the small bag behind Jiang Rong, and asked curiously: "Oh, yes, you also said you brought me a gift, what is it?"
Hearing this, Jiang Rong quickly took out the test paper from her schoolbag: "Yes, it's the test paper I took for the make-up class today!"
"That teacher is a former teacher in our school. I think he teaches very well. Didn't you say you couldn't answer a few questions before?"
Lin Yue was stunned, moved, and panicked: "No way, why are you bringing this!"
Mother Lin's face was full of smiles: "Not bad, not bad, Jiang Rong is really a good child. Auntie likes this gift very much. Then you should study hard."
"By the way, Yueyue, if you think it's really useful, tell mom if you need to go there for extra lessons."
Lin Yue was feeling a little depressed, but when she thought about attending cram school with Jiang Rong, she instantly became cheerful again.
After saying that, I thought Mother Lin was about to go out, but she turned around and went to the kitchen to bring out a plate of washed and cut fruit: "Eat some fruit, you don't have to study all the time."
Lin Yue swayed her feet: "Okay."
Jiang Rong followed beside her and thanked her like a little chicken pecking at rice: "Thank you, Auntie, thank you."
Mother Lin was a little helpless: "Yueyue has already told us about you, Xiao Jiang. You don't have to be so polite. You can treat this place as your own home. When we are done with our work, we will take you out for dinner tonight. His father will be back in the afternoon."
Jiang Rong subconsciously refused: "No, my brother will come to pick me up this afternoon."
Mother Lin was a little surprised: "Your brother?"
She looked at Lin Yue doubtfully, and Lin Yue winked quietly and suggested, "I think we can have dinner together tonight, right? Mom, Dad shouldn't mind if my friend brings someone else."
Jiang Rong wanted to refuse, but Mother Lin spoke again: "Okay, okay, I'm curious too. Don't worry, child, Auntie will definitely protect you."
She didn't give Jiang Rong another chance to refuse. After answering the phone, she left quickly. Lin Yue picked up the fruit and said, "Let's go to my room and play."
Jiang Rong followed behind her, a little confused: "So what do your parents do?"
Why are they all so weird? First, Li Tong asked me if I knew what Lin Yue's parents did for a living, then when I was on the phone, Lin Yue asked me if I knew her parents. Not to mention what Lin's mother said just now, to protect herself...
Lin Yue and Jiang Rong pushed open the study door first. "They're lawyers, they won't change their stance for money."
Jiang Rong looked at the documents scattered on the ground, squatted down and picked up the document. The name written on it looked familiar, as if it was the same surname as Shen Jianye. Before Jiang Rong could take a closer look, Lin Yue had already taken the document, put it on the table, and pulled Jiang Rong back to his room.
As soon as the door closed, Lin Yue asked directly: "Okay, Jiang Rong, so why did you suddenly tell me those things?"
Jiang Rong twitched the corners of her mouth. She knew her confession was abrupt, but...
Lin Yue raised her eyebrows: "We're not sisters, but when you talk about your family matters, you're not afraid that I'll break up with you. What are you hesitating about now?"
Jiang Rong thought about it and agreed, so she explained, "Do you remember that someone in our class took extra classes in the old factory?"
Lin Yue immediately understood: "Are you talking about Li Tong?"
Jiang Rong nodded. "Yes, we're even still deskmates in the cram school class. And my story isn't a secret in the old factory. So, she knows about me..."
Lin Yue nodded slightly: "So you are afraid that Li Tong will come and tell me?"
Jiang Rong scratched her palm: "Her threat is not that small."
Lin Yue opened her eyes wide in surprise: "So you don't care when others know about it, but you're afraid that I'll stay away from you if I find out!"
Jiang Rong's face gradually turned red. She had never expected Lin Yue to be so perceptive. She tried to hide her shame with the test paper, but maybe this was what friends were like. The two of them talked about study, school, and their brother Shen Jianye. They talked about everything from north to south, from all corners of the world, and even when Shen Jianye called, the two were still reluctant to leave.
Lin Yue looked at Jiang Rong, who had just told herself that she didn’t like Shen Jianye, but only admired and had affection for him. The moment the phone rang, she answered Shen Jianye’s call in seconds.
