Chapter 8
As the head teacher of the grade, he had an office all to himself, and in front of the head teacher, whom he was quite familiar with, Jiang Rong relaxed visibly.
But for some reason, the director deliberately left the door open, waved his hand and gestured for me to sit on the sofa first, and took a bottle of mineral water from the box for me to drink.
Jiang Rong glanced at the teacher's expression and felt that it was no big deal to call her here. However, just as her butt was stuck to the sofa, she heard the director say, "Xiao Jiang, you are not working outside, are you?"
Jiang Rong quickly swallowed the water in her mouth, and smiled awkwardly when she noticed the director's strange gaze. The director's words just now almost made her jump up with guilt. If someone didn't know, they would think there was a spring under her butt.
Fortunately, she was prepared. Ever since the teacher told her about being caught working, Jiang Rong had been wondering when the head teacher would come to see her.
After all, no one knows his family situation better than him.
I didn't expect that he would come to me so suddenly.
However, Jiang Rong's expression showed no sign of concern, so the teacher didn't ask any further questions. She simply tapped the table with her fingers and said, "I remember what Jiang said. You must study hard and get into a university. I've always believed in you. So, if you do something like working, which will result in punishment if you're caught and wastes study time, I can't protect you."
Jiang Rong swallowed and nodded nervously. She seemed very obedient, but she was already thinking about working downstairs from her home. This way, she would spend less time on the road and have more time to study.
The main reason is that I have searched everywhere nearby, and if the coffee shop doesn’t want me, the suburbs will have to be my next plan.
Her fingers couldn't help but tangle together. The director sighed softly at her expression and tapped the red-headed document again. "But I also know your family situation. You've been applying for financial hardship these days. I've also told your homeroom teacher about the scholarship. Has she come to see you?"
Jiang Rong understood instantly. No wonder Teacher Wang treated her like this today. He had clearly persuaded her to apply for individual enrollment and even urged her to sign up for cram school before. How could he suddenly seem to have lost interest in her and even seemed a little disgusted with her?
It turned out that it was because he knew his family situation.
Jiang Rong pursed her lips, her hands resting on the armrests of the sofa, anxiously fingering the seams of the leather sofa, unsure whether to speak. The director frowned slightly, noticing something amiss. However, he understood Jiang Rong's temper and knew that this child was a snail who would only shrink further if he asked. So, instead of asking directly, he asked a different question: "So, has Teacher Wang come to see you?"
Jiang Rong shook her head: "No, I guess the teacher was too busy and forgot."
The director didn't ask any more questions, but nodded slightly. "Don't worry, the teacher knows. I'll go and urge you again. Listen carefully in class. The teacher has always believed that Xiao Jiang can get into the school of his choice."
Seeing Jiang Rong nodding earnestly, and remembering the rebellious boys and girls who usually sat here, the director held his forehead helplessly, but the corners of his mouth curled up slightly. He took out the meal card from the drawer and said, "Xiao Jiang, take it to eat at noon. This is the money the school put into the teacher's card. Don't worry about it."
Jiang Rong wanted to refuse. After all, she knew how bad her bad luck was. However, she had been caught by the director in the cafeteria before. So after a moment of hesitation, she took it and pursed her lips. "Teacher, when I get into university and find a good job, I will definitely come back to honor you!"
She often heard the children next door talking to the old man like this, so subconsciously the only gift she could think of to express her gratitude was this.
Moreover, the director has been very kind to her since she was admitted to this high school and knew her family situation. What Jiang Rong said was indeed from the heart, but she said it subconsciously, and her ears turned red because of shyness.
The director was obviously amused by her honesty and said helplessly, "The teacher has children at home, although they are still young, but you don't need to take care of me in my old age. Besides, the teacher is not that old."
Jiang Rong's eyes became even more determined, but there was no one at home to talk to, so she didn't know what to say for a moment: "Anyway, from now on..."
The director waved his hand and said, "You are always welcome here. Go to class now. Come back and return my meal card after dinner. Eat as much as you want. Don't worry about the teacher."
Jiang Rong pursed her lips, nodded, and then ran away.
The director stood up, looked in the mirror, combed the few strands of hair on his head, and said to himself helplessly, "I'm still a young man."
"Does it really make you look that old..."
Just as he was feeling melancholy, he caught a glimpse of students running past the door. His brows furrowed, and he hurried out, shouting, "No playing and fighting in the corridor!"
The two students ran even faster after hearing what he said, like mice seeing a cat. The director held his head, which was dazed with anger, gritted his teeth and quickly caught up with them.
Jiang Rong returned to work with her meal card in her pocket, feeling strangely warm inside. However, thinking of his increasingly thinning hair, she wondered if it was because they were too close, and that she had brought bad luck upon herself...
When the director often helped me before, I even tried to persuade him, after all, he knew my family situation. Jiang Rong just said directly: "Teacher, you don't have to help me like this. What if something happens to your family because of me?"
But the director smiled and patted his shoulder: "No, if you are really that powerful, did your elementary and junior high school teacher get into trouble?"
"Maybe... the teachers won't be influenced by you."
Jiang Rong thought about it and realized that because the elementary school was close to home and the things that happened at home also happened in the elementary school, the elementary school teachers had always kept their distance from her. Except for occasions when they had to call her name, they almost kept silent about her name.
However, there is a certain distance between us and junior high school, so not all teachers know my business. Those who know will avoid talking about me and stay away from me, while those who don’t know will treat me normally.
To be honest, for a long time afterwards, no one around me suffered any bad luck.
Although it was also possible that it was related to the fact that she no longer got too close to anyone, Jiang Rong took a deep breath and it seemed that she had a good grasp of the current situation.
Not bad, not bad!
Jiang Rong patted her cheeks lightly and walked quickly back to the classroom. It was clearly during the break, but there was no one next to her deskmate Lin Yue. She looked back with some confusion. After all, the two of them usually stuck together and chatted during breaks.
But I don’t know what happened. I always feel that these two people seem to be angry about something, and it seems like they don’t want to talk to each other.
Jiang Rong was a little confused, but thinking about the relationship between the two, she pursed her lips and didn't show any curiosity.
Lin Yue turned her head to look over and asked in a low voice, "By the way, classmate, do you live in the old factory building?"
"Did you go to junior high school there?"
Jiang Rong's heart tightened, and her eyes became flustered. However, she noticed Lin Yue's curious expression, and since she had just given her advice, Jiang Rong pursed her lips nervously, took a deep breath, and said, "Yes."
After the girl finished speaking, she subconsciously looked away, and her hands under the table clenched instantly. She didn't dare to look at Lin Yue's expression for a moment. She didn't expect that she would actually say that.
I didn't mean to lie to her though.
However, the old factory is not a good place. It is a mixed crowd. Due to the extremely low housing prices, people of all kinds live there, making them the most chaotic group in the entire city.
But Lin Yue didn't show the disdain he had imagined. Instead, he grabbed his hand with shining eyes and said, "You're amazing to even get into this high school!"
Although this high school is a key high school at the bottom, it is still a key high school. What's more, Jiang Rong is studying in a junior high school near the old factory building, and she was able to get into this key high school.
She must be one of the best students in that school!
Jiang Rong's face gradually turned red due to her praise. She had never expected Lin Yue to react like this. She stammered back, "No, no, it's just okay..."
Lin Yue instantly closed the distance between the two of them: "No, it's true!"
“It’s truly remarkable!”
Jiang Rong watched helplessly as Lin Yue's face rushed towards her. She was already dumbfounded. Regardless of whether it was a man or a woman, this was the first time she had been so close to anyone in a long time. As she was stunned, dark red blood flowed from her nostrils. Jiang Rong hurriedly reached for tissues from her schoolbag, but Lin Yue quickly pulled out a tissue from her pocket. While stretching her philtrum to slow the flow, she muttered, "I have it in my pocket. I have rhinitis, so I carry tissues with me."
As she spoke, she gave herself a thumbs up. It was this action that made the blood flow even more. Fortunately, the toilet was not far away, and Jiang Rong quickly took her to the toilet to get water to flush.
Jiang Rong watched Lin Yue, who had been calm and composed at first, gradually become worried as he watched the endless flow of blood. She muttered softly, "It's okay. I guess he was just too angry."
As class was about to start, the restroom was almost empty. Jiang Rong pursed her lips and became even bolder. "By the way, how did you know where I live?"
Lin Yue didn't hide anything at all. Amidst the sound of splashing water, she took the initiative to explain, "My friend always comes to my former classmate's table and says he saw you when he went to the old factory for extra classes."
Jiang Rong's eyes widened slightly, and she muttered subconsciously: "No way, I'm wearing something different, and I'm running so fast..."
Lin Yue curled the corners of her mouth and secretly glanced at Jiang Rong's fairy-like face. What's the use of those methods she just mentioned? Unless she covered her face, there might be a chance that she would not be recognized.
As the bell rang, the water continued to flow, but the entire bathroom was silent, as if they were the only two people in the world.
Lin Yue couldn't stand this embarrassment, so she couldn't help but find a random topic to break the deadlock: "By the way, I finally know why you didn't go to the barber shop with me."
Jiang Rong smiled awkwardly, then heard Lin Yue continue, "But I secretly brought my phone with me. Let's have dinner together later. After dinner, I'll find you a cheap barber shop with good reviews."
Jiang Rong, who had never known that mobile phones could be used in such a wonderful way, clutched her meal card in her other pocket. Her cheeks flushed with kindness. She couldn't help but respond to the kindness: "Then I'll treat you to lunch!"
