Chapter 17: Fire Pit accepted this desperate struggle...
After receiving a call from Li Jinmiao, Su Yinuo immediately took a taxi and rushed to the restaurant address sent by Li Jinmiao.
When we arrived, the customers had already been asked to leave by the waiter and the restaurant was empty. All we saw was an overturned table and a mess of debris on the floor.
Su Yinuo had no idea what was going on and ran directly towards the crowd gathered outside the store. There, several waiters were smashing the lock of an iron door with hammers.
Looking across the crowd, Su Yinuo saw a scene she could not imagine.
The man who was sometimes gentle, sometimes indifferent, but always full of vitality, was kneeling on a pile of broken glass. His hands and off-white suit were stained with blood. He looked like a rose that was about to wither.
Su Yinuo still didn't know what happened or why he was kneeling there.
Then the picture, which seemed to have stopped, was coated with a layer of old color by the dim light, as if announcing that the people in the painting were about to be taken away from this world and towards eternal death.
Su Yinuo's heart plummeted, a surge of panic. The moment the iron chain was smashed open and fell to the ground, she rushed over. She threw herself in front of the motionless man, met his empty eyes, and hugged him tightly.
"What's wrong? What's wrong? What happened? How did it become like this?" Su Yinuo had just opened her mouth when the person in front of her leaned on her as if exhausted.
Feeling the weight on her body, Su Yinuo burst into tears. "Hold on for a while," she turned around and shouted anxiously to the crowd, "Have you called an ambulance? Have you called?"
"I'm calling you, I'll be here soon!" Li Jinmiao appeared behind her.
"Bring some gauze bandage and deal with it first!" Su Yinuo grabbed Qin Cangye's arm and wanted to push him away to take a look at his wound, but her body was immediately hugged tightly by him again.
"Noruo?" A low and weak voice sounded in Su Yinuo's ears, and the palm behind her back began to move up, tightly grasping the back of Su Yinuo's neck.
Su Yinuo only felt a wetness on the back of her neck. She quickly held Qin Cangye's face and said, "Don't move. Don't use too much force, or you'll go into shock."
But unexpectedly, those empty eyes suddenly became bright, and that pale face moved closer and closer, and those cold lips pressed against his lips.
Su Yinuo wanted to hide, but her neck was held tightly. She wanted to break free, but was afraid of deepening his wound. She could only kneel there blankly and accept Qin Cangye's urgent and short kiss that seemed like a dying struggle.
When the sound of the ambulance arrived, Qin Cangye had already fainted in Su Yinuo's arms.
Su Yinuo quickly helped him up, and together with the others, they helped him onto the stretcher brought by the nurse. Wu Heng supported himself on his waist and got into the ambulance, while Su Yinuo got into Li Jinmiao's car and drove to the hospital.
In the car, Su Yinuo's face was pale, his heart was always hanging, and he didn't say a word.
"Come here, Nuoruo, I'll help wipe it for you. Don't worry, that guy will be fine." Li Jinmiao, who was sitting next to him, took out a wet wipe and wiped the blood off Su Yinuo's neck.
Li Jinmiao didn't know what words to use to describe her experience that night. Seeing Su Yinuo run over and embrace Qin Cangye, she was surprised, yet also overwhelmed with unexpected emotion. And seeing Qin Cangye grab Su Yinuo with his bloodied hands and kiss her, a shock born of tragedy washed over her, leaving her frozen in place, her eyes burning.
She didn't understand why two people who had only met twice could act out a scene as if they had been deeply in love for thousands of years.
Only at this moment did she want to believe that Qin Cangye really liked Su Yinuo, and Su Yinuo also loved this crazy man.
"It's okay, I can do it myself. Thank you, Sister Miaomiao," Su Yinuo came back to her senses and pulled out a few wet wipes with slightly trembling hands.
"Nuo Nuo," Li Jinmiao looked at her with reluctance. He straightened her messy bangs, grabbed her hand, sighed deeply, and said, "There is one thing... Although it's a little early to tell you now, I have to tell you." She paused, her expression becoming serious. "The Qin family is a hell of a pit."
Su Yinuo was a little confused and didn't know why Li Jinmiao suddenly brought up this.
"Qin Cangye said he would break off the engagement, but now it seems it's for you. Besides, you like him, right?" Li Jinmiao smiled bitterly. "Qin Cangye is really a lunatic. I used to think he was just joking, but I didn't expect him to really take it seriously. I now understand why he said he wanted to have a meal with you once a week, because he was afraid of his grandfather. Maybe he's trying every possible way to be with you, maybe you two can really be together in the future, but since you are my friend, no matter what happens, I have to tell you in advance the price of being with him."
In fact, Su Yinuo was still a little confused. She had never considered being with Qin Cangye, but she also wanted to know what Li Jinmiao said, so she didn't interrupt, but just looked at Li Jinmiao seriously, waiting for her next words.
"The Qin family's old house is on Chaoyang Mountain in Jinyang District, a wealthy area in Beijiang City. My family lives there too, separated from the Qin family by a small artificial lake. When I was little, I often went to the lake to play, and the children from Chaoyang Mountain also loved to play there. We often ended up playing in front of the Qin family's mansion. After all, it was the most luxurious building in Chaoyang Mountain at the time. But as far as I can remember, I've never seen a lively woman in the Qin family. The Qin family had very few maids, and even the mistress had a sickly look.
This was unusual. Chaoyang Mountain was full of wealthy people, and the women of each family loved to compete with each other. Even the wives of officials, who dressed simply and modestly, were adorned with jewels. I had never met the old lady of the Qin family; it was said that she passed away before I could even walk. But I had met the Qin family's wife, Qin Cangye's mother, several times, including once on a rainy night.
When I was seven, my parents and I had an argument and I rushed out of the house. It started raining a short while later. I took shelter under the eaves of the Qin family mansion. Then I heard crying and screaming in the yard. Despite my fear, I couldn't help but look inside and witnessed a scene I'll never forget.
Mrs. Qin was beaten out of the house by Old Master Qin with a ruler, and then kicked down the stairs, more than half a meter high. Mrs. Qin fell to the ground, and before she could get up, Old Master Qin had already caught up with her, beating her mercilessly with the ruler in his hand. She lay on the ground, her cries drowned out by the sound of the rain. And at the door, there was a little boy standing there, screaming non-stop.
Su Yinuo had heard Qin Cangye mention his mother's tragic experience before, but he just downplayed it at the time. Although Su Yinuo felt distressed, she was not as shocked as what she heard from Li Jinmiao.
"When my parents found me, the Qin family had already entered the house. Mrs. Qin was carried in by several male servants. A few years later, Mrs. Qin passed away. Over the years, there have been rumors in Chaoyang Mountain that Old Master Qin abused women and that most of the female members of the Qin family were forced to death by Old Master Qin. But not many people are willing to believe this. After all, with the Qin family's status in Beiguang City, no one wants to offend the Qin family. But I believed these rumors from the beginning to the end because I saw it with my own eyes!"
"Nuo Nuo," Li Jinmiao grabbed Su Yinuo's hands, looked at her seriously, and said, "Qin Cangye, you've seen it too. That kind of violent and crazy personality is obviously not cultivated in a normal family environment. Although Old Master Qin is over seventy years old, he is still in very good health. If you enter his house, it will be like a sheep walking into a tiger's mouth. It's not certain whether you or he will die first!"
Su Yinuo stared at Li Jinmiao in a daze, not knowing how to respond. She was still young and had never considered marriage. Even if she liked Qin Cangye, the furthest she could think of was just a relationship.
But she also understands herself. If she decides to start a relationship, she will take it seriously and see the end of getting married, having children, and growing old together.
But she couldn't imagine what kind of treatment she would receive if the other party came from such a family.
"Nuo Nuo, I remember you told me before that your mother is the only one left at home, right? And your mother is disabled and needs your care," Li Jinmiao said with a wry smile. "I'm not trying to scare you, Nuo Nuo. Even with my parents' support, I wouldn't dare marry into the Qin family. If you and your aunt entered the Qin family, what would be your fate?"
"I know!" Su Yinuo was panicked and quickly replied. She was more worried about her mother than herself. If someone punched her mother, she would fight to the death!
"I understand, Sister Miaomiao. I never wanted to marry him or be with him," Su Yinuo said with a depressed look, lowering her head.
She knew her own worth and already knew that the Qin family was a fire pit. She would no longer foolishly jump into the fire pit. She would stay far away and not even be touched by a spark!
But she was still very sad, and she felt even sadder when she thought of Qin Cangye covered in blood.
The vehicle had stopped in front of the hospital. Su Yinuo saw Qin Cangye being carried out of the ambulance by the nurses and pushed into the emergency room.
"Sister Miaomiao," she said, tears rolling down her cheeks as she stared out the window. "I'm not going. Can I stay in your car for a while? You go over and take a look at the situation. If there's no danger, I'll go home."
"Okay, Lao Zhang, you stay with Nuoruo," Li Jinmiao patted Su Yinuo on the shoulder and got out of the car.
She arrived outside the emergency room and listened to the doctor's explanation of Qin Cangye's condition. Although he had lost a lot of blood, he was in good health and had been brought in promptly, so all his indicators were positive. He only needed a blood transfusion and hospitalization for observation, and there was no danger of him becoming seriously ill.
Li Jinmiao sent these details to Su Yinuo, and after comforting her with a few words, asked Zhang Yifeng to send Su Yinuo home first.
Not long after, Qin Cangye was transferred to the general ward. Li Jinmiao followed him out of the ward bored and sat on a chair, scrolling through his phone.
Suddenly, a message popped up on my phone from someone I hadn't contacted in a while: "Hey, Jin Sanshui, I heard you're getting married to our Chaoyang Mountain's number one evil spirit? You're so brave! Do you want me to come back and protect you?"
Li Jinmiao's mouth twitched as his mind flashed back to that carefree face. It was Wang Zhengcheng, the boy king who had thrived in Chaoyang Mountain during his childhood. From eighty-year-old mothers to three-year-old children, everyone was his friend. He even dared to approach Qin Cangye, all thanks to his fathers, who had achieved even greater success in officialdom.
Clearly leaning on the pinnacle of power in Beiguang City, with a clear path to officialdom, this guy insisted on leaving the country to become an artist. In Li Jinmiao's eyes, he was a complete psychopath. So, she responded bluntly, "Get lost!"
Wang Zhengcheng replied quickly, "Ah... I'm so sad... I'll be back next month, and I'll set up a party for you and your fiancé. I'll invite our friends from Chaoyang Mountain."
Li Jinmiao was speechless. When he was about to reply with a few more "get out" words, he heard footsteps approaching in the corridor.
The footsteps were heavy, steady, fast but not hurried. Every step made Li Jinmiao's heart tremble and made her feel an inexplicable tension.
She raised her head and found that the people coming were actually two old men. One was Qin Weishu, the old man of the Qin family, whom she was deeply afraid of, and the other was a ghostly old servant who had followed him all his life.
Li Jinmiao felt a chill down his spine, and quickly stood up, shouting, "Hello, Grandpa Qin!"
