Chapter Ten
Liang Yuheng looked at her with a half-smile. The car's interior lights illuminated his flawless face, and upon closer inspection, his eyes were also very beautiful, making one hesitant to look at them for too long.
Shi Qing felt even more uncomfortable when she was suddenly asked this question, especially when he was staring at her.
"Really?" she asked, feigning nonchalance.
"Um."
"Maybe it's because I'm not used to interacting with the opposite sex," Shi Qing blurted out in a moment of impulse, "and they're just too good-looking."
The air suddenly became quiet.
It's over.
Why did she blurt out what was on her mind?!
Liang Yuheng was also taken aback. The usually composed man suddenly showed some complex emotions in his eyes.
He cleared his throat and looked ahead: "Let's go."
After Shi Qing finished speaking, she wished she could bury herself in the ground. She turned her face to the outside of the car and hummed in agreement.
While looking in the rearview mirror, Liang Yuheng tried his best to suppress the upward curve of his lips.
After a few minutes, Shi Qing calmed down.
She suddenly realized that what she had just said could easily be misunderstood. What if Liang Yuheng thought that she had improper thoughts about him?
But how can this be explained?
"Um, don't get me wrong. Although you are indeed very good-looking, I'm just admiring you." Shi Qing pinched her palm hard.
"What? Not your type of looks?" Liang Yuheng gripped the steering wheel, looking straight ahead.
"ah?"
Shi Qing never expected him to say that.
What does this have to do with the type of looks she likes?
If she says it's her type, doesn't that mean she's still thinking about him?
If I say no, it wouldn't be appropriate to say so in front of them.
Good heavens, the more I explain, the more confusing it gets.
"I don't know what kind of looks I like, but I like anyone who is good-looking."
Liang Yuheng raised an eyebrow: "I didn't realize you were so..."
“That’s right, I’m a bit of a fangirl,” Shi Qing said first.
Aaaaaaah!
Shi Qing now wished she could slap herself for talking such nonsense!
Liang Yuheng smiled and nodded.
Shi Qing lowered her head and pretended to be dead.
When the light turned red, Liang Yuheng's eyes swept over her bright red ears, and the smile in his eyes deepened.
On the way back, the rain got heavier and heavier, the sky seemed to be leaking, and the road began to flood.
Liang Yuheng had to slow down, and what should have been a half-hour journey took almost an hour.
There were almost no pedestrians on the road, and far fewer cars than usual.
It was almost 11:30 when we finally arrived at the building where Shi Qing lived.
The two waited in the car for a long time, but the rain not only did not stop, it got heavier and heavier, and was accompanied by bursts of thunder.
If she had known this would happen, Shi Qing would have regretted letting Liang Yuheng bring her back; otherwise, he would be resting at home right now.
"I'll take you up." Liang Yuheng unbuckled his seatbelt.
Seeing the torrential rain outside, Shi Qing was worried that the highway would be closed, and since she couldn't urge him to go back now, she had no choice but to agree.
Seeing that Liang Yuheng was about to get something from the back seat, Shi Qing said, "Put it in the car first, it's a gift for Auntie."
Liang Yuheng thought about how she had carefully hidden something in her bosom earlier that day, but he never expected it to be this.
He got out of the car first, opened his umbrella, and went to the passenger seat.
As soon as Shi Qing stepped out of the car, she realized that the wind and rain outside were much stronger than she had imagined. Even with an umbrella, she still got soaked.
The two squeezed together under a battered umbrella and ran towards the apartment building. Although Liang Yuheng deliberately shielded Shi Qing from the rain, her jeans and shoes were still soaked.
Needless to say, Liang Yuheng's entire body was almost completely dry.
Upon entering, Shi Qing saw that Liang Yuheng's black trousers were stuck to his legs and his leather shoes were covered in crumbs. This was the first time she had seen him in such a disheveled state.
It was all my own doing.
"Then I'll go first..."
"Or you could..."
The two spoke almost simultaneously, then stopped.
Liang Yuheng: "Go ahead."
Just then, a bolt of lightning struck, followed by a deafening clap of thunder.
Shi Qing pointed outside: "The highway might be closed now, you can stay here if you don't mind."
Liang Yuheng looked at her quietly.
She immediately remembered what she had said in the car.
He probably thinks...
"Don't worry, I won't do anything to you! And even if I wanted to do *that* to you, I couldn't beat you." Shi Qing felt that her explanation was quite convincing.
Unexpectedly, Liang Yuheng actually laughed out loud this time: "You have quite a vivid imagination."
Shi Qing: "?"
Could it be that the way he looked at her just now wasn't a misunderstanding?
Shi Qing thought about it again.
Her rooms are small and the conditions are poor.
The bigger problem is that, although they are a married couple, they have never lived together.
Liang Yuheng might be very averse to it and not want to live there.
Anyway, she meant well, and if Liang Yuheng insisted on leaving, she wouldn't stop him.
Unexpectedly, Liang Yuheng quickly asked, "Will this trouble you?"
Shi Qing waved her hand: "No, I'm just worried you won't be used to living here."
"Then I'll have to bother you." Liang Yuheng placed the umbrella against the wall, and he certainly didn't seem to be disgusted.
Shi Qing brought him a pair of women's slippers, which Zhou Han had worn when she came before, but she soon discovered that Liang Yuheng's feet couldn't fit into them at all.
But his shoes and socks were wet, and it must have been uncomfortable to wear them all the time.
Shi Qing: "Why don't you go barefoot? I mopped the floor this morning."
Liang Yuheng hummed in agreement, but did not act immediately.
Shi Qing put the medicine on the table and went to get him a clean towel: "Um, I don't have any men's clothes here."
Liang Yuheng took it: "It's okay, I'll just use a hairdryer to dry it."
Shi Qing poured him a glass of warm water, then found the hairdryer and brought it over: "Then you sit down for a while, I'm going to take a shower first."
She had already been caught in the rain, and now she was soaking wet and uncomfortable.
Liang Yuheng nodded: "Okay."
The apartment Shi Qing rented had a small bathroom with a narrow glass door covered with a privacy film, so any sounds coming from inside could be heard clearly from inside the room.
She was used to living alone, and suddenly there was someone in the house, a man at that. When Shi Qing removed her makeup, her face felt hot to the touch.
But there's no way around it, I still have to wash it.
Because of her right hand injury, it was very inconvenient for her to wash her hair. But thinking that Liang Yuheng was still outside, she still finished washing it as quickly as possible.
After taking a shower, Shi Qing changed into a light blue nightgown, with pajama bottoms that reached above her knees, revealing a section of her fair calves.
"I'm done washing, you can go now."
Liang Yuheng looked up and saw that she had her hair wrapped in a bath towel, and her whole face was flushed.
He turned off the hair dryer without making a sound and said, "Okay."
Shi Qing walked over to pick up the hairdryer to dry her hair when she heard her phone ring. She saw that it was a video call from Zhou Han, so she answered it casually.
"Hey, Hanhan, what's wrong?"
Zhou Han: "Qingbao, it's good that you're home. The rain outside was too heavy. By the way, I heard from your aunt that you hurt your hand. Is it serious?"
Shi Qing smiled and said, "It's nothing, I just twisted my ankle. I went to the hospital and they said it wasn't serious."
Zhou Han: "That's good. My aunt asked me to go with her to see you tomorrow. She's never met you before and is a little embarrassed, so she wants me to come along."
Shi Qing: That's great. With you here, I don't have to be so nervous.
Zhou Han: "You two are really something. Your aunt is a very nice person. You two will definitely get along very well."
"Shi Qing, do you have a bath towel?"
"..."
Shi Qing's mind went blank for a moment, and she was so startled that she almost dropped her phone.
Zhou Han was stunned for a moment, then slowly and in surprise said, "Qingbao, why is there a man's voice coming from there?!"
Shi Qing originally planned to chat with Zhou Han briefly and then hang up, but she didn't expect Liang Yuheng to suddenly speak.
"I'll talk to you when I get back." With that, she hurriedly hung up the phone.
"Yes, I'll go get it for you." Shi Qing got up, grabbed a clean, light pink bath towel from the wardrobe, and came out of the bathroom.
The sound of water inside had stopped, and a tall, imposing figure could be vaguely seen standing behind the door.
Shi Qing knocked on the door with her back to it: "Um, a bath towel."
The door opened the next moment, and a wave of warm steam rushed in.
Shi Qing stiffly handed the bath towel to the crack in the door, deliberately looking towards the ceiling.
Liang Yuheng was stunned when he saw the color of the bath towel; this was the first time in his life he had ever used something so girly.
When he wiped his face, he smelled a sweet scent on it, and he was surprised to find that it smelled quite nice.
While Shi Qing was drying her hair, she was still thinking about how to explain it to Zhou Han.
A few minutes later, the bathroom door opened again, and Liang Yuheng had changed into his own clothes. However, the collar of his dark gray shirt was slightly open, and the shirt was not as crisp as when he was first seen. But he looked more lazy and casual than usual.
When Shi Qing saw him drying his hair with her pink bath towel, she immediately felt the scene was a bit comical.
She suppressed a laugh, quickly looked away, and continued drying her hair.
Liang Yuheng sat on her small white sofa looking at his phone, his long legs slightly bent, making him look a little cramped.
After Shi Qing finished drying her hair, she heard her phone buzzing with messages. She picked it up and saw that it contained more than a dozen voice messages from Zhou Han.
She clicked on the first message, and Zhou Han's excited voice echoed throughout the room: "Shi Qing, how come there's a man in your room! What about my cousin! Although we're best friends, my cousin has been pretty good to me too..."
Shi Qing hurriedly clicked cancel play.
She subconsciously looked at Liang Yuheng, and their eyes met.
"..."
Shi Qing bit her lip, her face flushed, and said, "I'll explain it to her."
Liang Yuheng: "Mm."
Having learned her lesson the first time, Shi Qing converted all subsequent voice messages into text.
Zhou Han's posts were almost entirely filled with shock, helplessness, and accusations about Shi Qing cheating on Liang Yuheng.
Shi Qing: [Hanhan, do you think that person could be Liang Yuheng?]
Zhou Han: [?!]
Zhou Han: [Didn't you say you two didn't get along? You're living together now, how can you say you don't get along?]
Zhou Han: [Are you two in that kind of relationship?! Okay, I can understand, my cousin is indeed good-looking and has a great physique.] (Evil grin)
"..."
Shi Qing: [It's not what you think. He brought me home tonight. It was raining too hard outside, so he couldn't go back and stayed at my place temporarily.]
Zhou Han was somewhat disappointed after reading it, and asked with a hint of disbelief: "Really?"
Shi Qing: [True. Absolutely true.]
Zhou Han: [A lone man and a lone woman alone in a room, can you two control yourselves? Maybe you should...]
Shi Qing: [Stop talking nonsense, or I won't talk to you tomorrow.]
Zhou Han: [No way. Okay, okay, I'm not kidding anymore. You guys get some rest, see you tomorrow.]
Shi Qing: [See you tomorrow.]
Zhou Han sent Shi Qing an intimate couple emoji from somewhere, and Shi Qing felt her neck and above getting hot when she saw it.
Liang Yuheng noticed that Shi Qing's face was getting redder and redder, and wondered what the two of them were talking about.
Shi Qing put down her phone and looked over: "I've already talked to her, she shouldn't overthink it anymore."
Liang Yuheng casually agreed, seemingly not considering it a big deal.
Seeing that Shi Qing was holding a hairdryer in her left hand and her right hand resting lightly on her lap, he asked, "How did you fall and hurt your hand?"
Shi Qing originally wanted to tell him about her family situation, but she quickly remembered that Zhou Han had mentioned Liang Yuheng's family situation before, so she held back.
“When I tried to break up a fight with my colleagues in the store, I was pushed.”
Liang Yuheng's face remained expressionless as he calmly said, "Take better care of yourself next time."
Shi Qing gave a slight smile: "Okay."
After drying her hair, Shi Qing went to get a yoga mat to make the bed: "You can sleep on the bed, my yoga mat isn't very spacious."
Liang Yuheng glanced at Shi Qing's girlish quilt and the few ugly dolls on the bedside table, and his brows furrowed slightly.
He quickly recalled that Zhou Gan had mentioned Shi Qing liked those blind boxes, and it seemed to be true.
"I'll sleep here." Liang Yuheng took the things from her hands. "I'll take care of it."
Shi Qing had just caught his reaction for a moment and assumed he was disgusted by the bed she had used.
Her conditions here were already poor, and it would be too unfair to Liang Yuheng to sleep on the floor.
“I have clean four-piece bedding sets, I’ll use these on the floor,” Shi Qing said, pointing to her bed.
Seeing that she had misunderstood, Liang Yuheng chuckled and said, "No need, how can a patient sleep on the floor?"
For some reason, Shi Qing felt that Liang Yuheng seemed to be in a good mood today.
Liang Yuheng rarely smiles, and even when he does, his expression is subtle, yet he is very handsome. He is even more captivating than his usual aloof demeanor.
Seeing that he didn't seem to dislike her, Shi Qing felt a strange sense of relief.
The living room was already small, and after Liang Yuheng laid out his things, it almost filled the entire space. His sleeping area was almost right next to Shi Qing's bed.
After the lights were turned off, the room became quiet immediately.
The room Shi Qing was staying in wasn't very soundproof, and she could clearly hear the sounds of the wind and rain outside the window.
It can be a bit scary at night if you live alone.
Because Liang Yuheng was there today, Shi Qing didn't feel scared at all.
Because her attention was focused on the people around her.
This was the first time she had ever slept in a room alone with a man, and that man was Liang Yuheng.
Perhaps influenced by Zhou Han's words, Shi Qing felt her mind was in turmoil and she couldn't calm down.
Shi Qing couldn't fall asleep for a long time. She didn't dare to turn over, afraid of disturbing Liang Yuheng.
Finally, Shi Qing couldn't stay awake any longer and fell asleep.
Perhaps because she drank some water when taking her medicine before bed, Shi Qing woke up groggily in the middle of the night.
She rolled out of bed to go to the bathroom, but before she could take a step, she tripped over someone on the floor.
Shi Qing then remembered that Liang Yuheng had slept at her place that night.
Seeing that she was about to fall to the ground, Shi Qing couldn't help but close her eyes.
But the expected pain didn't come; instead, she was grabbed and hugged around the waist.
The next moment, she fell into a warm, broad embrace.
