Chapter 23 Borrowing a Knife to Kill

After Zhang was taken away, the hall became quiet again, and Concubine Dong E also explained the reason why everyone gathered together today.

"Several assassins were causing trouble nearby last night. Ladies, please be careful in the near future to avoid any accidents."

Jiang Ranli left the hall in a depressed mood. Noticing the depressed aura around her, Sixian and Sidai became puzzled. What happened to their young lady? Hadn't they already taught that Zhang a lesson? Why was she still so sad?

"Miss, Fu Jin has already taught that Zhang a lesson, so don't be sad," Si Xian said.

Hearing the voice, Jiang Ranli stopped and looked towards the prince's mansion where she was, her expression becoming increasingly depressed and sad. "The punishment that the concubine gave to Zhang was too severe. In this mansion where there are so many women, it will take less than a month for her to be completely forgotten by the Ninth Prince. She will never be able to turn things around, and her life will be over."

"She has been disrespectful to you many times, young lady, and she deserves this fate. Aren't you angry when you think about all that? Why are you still sad for her?" Sidai said.

"I'm not just sad for her, I'm sad for myself too. The mansion of a marquis is as deep as the sea, and I'm afraid that one day I'll end up like that." Jiang Ranli looked up at the square sky above his head, his mood was foggy.

Sixian and Sidai looked at each other in confusion. They didn't understand why their young lady said that, "Miss, you are the concubine. In this mansion, no one can surpass you except the concubine. Look at that Zhang, wasn't she punished for insulting you? The concubine is so kind and sensible, what else do you have to worry about?"

Is Fu Jin kind?

Hearing Sixian and Sidai's description of Concubine Dong E, Jiang Ranli's eyebrows twitched, but she didn't say anything in the end, just walked quickly.

Zhang took advantage of the fact that Yinzhen stayed at her place for a few more nights every month, so she acted a little more ostentatiously on weekdays, but she was not disrespectful to Concubine Dong E.

Even if Zhang had overstepped her status and mocked her today, she would have only been scolded a few times, and there was no need to punish her like this. However, Fu Jin made such a decision. She was ostensibly upholding justice for herself, but in fact she was trying to intimidate the women in the backyard and consolidate her own position.

What a good trick to kill with a borrowed knife!

Jiang Ranli sighed in her heart. She had always known that similar things often happened in women's backyards, but she never thought that she would become one of them. She always thought that Dong E was gentle and virtuous, but she forgot that someone who could become the prince's legitimate wife would not be a simple character.

Now she has traveled to the Qing Dynasty, a place where men are superior to women and classes are clearly defined. She doesn't want to get caught up in that vortex, but how can she stay out of it in a place where jealousy and intrigue are rampant?

She was afraid that she would die here before she found a way to leave the Ninth Prince's Mansion, and she was afraid that she would become a person who would scheme and be jealous for men.

Amidst a chaotic stream of thoughts, Jiang Ranli finally returned to his own courtyard. Looking at the secluded courtyard, Jiang Ranli decided to keep a low profile in the future and try to leave here as soon as possible. Even though the future was uncertain, if he didn't try, he would have to live in fear all day long.

Thinking about this, Jiang Ranli walked into the room and sat down at the small table. He drank five glasses of water in a row before he felt he could breathe again.

"Sixian, Sidai, please help me take off these clothes. They are so tight that I can hardly breathe."

After drinking the water, Jiang Ranli unbuttoned her clothes and asked Sixian and Sidai to help her take off the clothes that were tied around her body to act as fat. Just as the master and servant were busy, a cough was heard from the inner room.
