Night falls.
The closer you get to the northern border, the colder the nights become. The gentle evening breeze stirs the hearts of everyone.
Inside the rest area, large numbers of sandbags were pushed together at the front and back doors, with two machine guns positioned between them, waiting for the enemy to advance.
Luo Chen and Wu Hao were responsible for maintaining order inside the villa in case of any unexpected situations.
They didn't have anyone guarding the outside. If they had, it would have been easily breached. After all, facing forty or fifty people in a place without any defenses is not something an ordinary person could do.
The front and back doors are completely different sizes. The front door is the most spacious and is separated by an iron gate. Luo Chen and his group had driven all the cars in beforehand and then blocked the entrance with sandbags.
We also arranged for personnel to guard the front gate, as the situation there was quite serious, so we deployed the most personnel there.
In terms of personnel, Luo Chen arranged about ten people at the front gate to ensure better safety.
As for the back door, it's about one-third the size of the front door, basically just big enough for one person to pass through. The number of people assigned there is about the same, while Number Five is guarding the back door with four or five other people.
The rest of the people were responsible for subsequent reinforcements and for being able to support Luo Chen and Wu Hao's deployment at any time.
In this way, Luo Chen and his team will be able to better control the entire situation.
"Does everyone have enough equipment?" Luo Chen glanced at the equipment and asked Mike.
Mike nodded slightly, still feeling somewhat pleased. When he went to the ammunition depot with Wu Hao's men earlier, Mike was shocked to see that the warehouse was full of good stuff.
Now, there's no need to worry about fire support at all.
"That's good. When they dare to rush in, just shoot them down. Don't worry about ammunition, right, Lao Wu?"
"Yes, yes, yes." Wu Hao didn't care about the pain of parting with his money now; if he couldn't bear to part with it now, when would he ever be able to?
"Xiao, where do you think they'll attack?" Wu Hao asked, a hint of nervousness on his face, revealing his underlying concern.
"How would I know? Do you think I'm a god who can predict the future?" Luo Chen shook his head. He didn't know either. In any case, the opponent's strength was not weak, so he could only wait for the opponent to make a move.
"The first round will probably just be a barrage of firepower," Mike chimed in from the side.
That's obvious. Everyone knows that the other side will definitely use big equipment to bombard the gate and then rush in.
"Haha, Mike, if you keep saying that, Old Wu will be very distressed."
"Don't worry, Mike is a very experienced person, he will definitely do a good job," Luo Chen reassured Wu Hao.
The latter showed a hint of worry, especially at this time.
Luo Chen understood that Wu Hao hadn't experienced such a large-scale event in all these years. He had only stayed here and dealt with a few small fry. He never expected to encounter such a large mercenary group.
Of course, there are concerns; everyone has these feelings. As long as this doesn't cause any other problems, it's fine.
At that point, even Luo Chen won't be able to control the situation.
"Has everyone eaten yet?" Wu Hao suddenly asked, as if he were saying, "Is this your last meal together?"
Luo Chen chuckled, but then shut his mouth.
"It's six o'clock in the evening now, and it'll probably be a while before we distribute the food to everyone," Luo Chen continued.
Mike's eyes widened, as if he found it hard to believe. Hadn't they just eaten?
Why are we distributing food again? To be honest, Mike was really having a headache over these two Asians' thought processes.
"Go ahead, I said I'd do it. You need to be well-fed to have the strength to fight. If you can't finish your food, take it with you so you won't go hungry on your way to the underworld, right, Lao Wu?" Luo Chen raised an eyebrow and glanced at Wu Hao, saying calmly.
Wu Hao gently shook his head, indicating that he did not mean that.
"I felt a little uneasy, and I always felt that it would be better to let everyone be well-fed before fighting."
Mike, standing to the side, was even more confused. What was going on? One minute it was about eating, the next it was about the road to the underworld.
Is Huangquan Road a famous avenue in the East? What does it mean?
Mike, not understanding, turned to ask Luo Chen, only to see him slowly walking away, head in his hands.
"Hey, wait for me, Xiao." Mike followed closely behind.
"Xiao, what did you mean by the Road to the Underworld? I don't understand a word you said," Mike asked as he caught up.
Luo Chen stopped, staring at Mike with a mischievous grin, and said, "No, why do you need to know this? This isn't something to be proud of, hahaha."
Mike scratched his head and said curiously, "Is it particularly bad? Wu Hao must be too nervous. But you can tell that he hasn't experienced a scene like this in a long time, which is why he's so nervous. When I looked at him, he was holding his hands tightly."
“You’re quite observant, but what does this have to do with you? Wu Hao is nervous, and of course he doesn’t want to do this.” Luo Chen glanced at the villa behind him and continued, “I reckon Wu Hao is probably hoping that everyone can sit down and negotiate amicably right now.”
"Haha, insightful. It's a pity he doesn't understand one principle: only people of equal qualifications have the ability to facilitate negotiations."
"By the way, where are you going?"
"Let's take a walk around and see how your preparations are going. It's quite boring being with Wu Hao." Luo Chen seemed rather relaxed, which immediately highlighted the difference between the two of them compared to Wu Hao.
Mike also noticed this and said to Luo Chen, "You are quite remarkable for someone your age. There's a saying in the East: 'New talents emerge in every generation.' I'm not as calm as you."
That's because you lack a system and are even less aware of the true nature of this world, so you're unaware of this point.
Luo Chen didn't respond much. "What's wrong with people my age? Look at those young masters like Wang and Zhou in real life. They're big shots in society, always going out and about. They're nothing like people like us who live on the edge."
"No, it's just that some things happened, plus a bit of luck, so it's nothing. As for the rest, you should know that no matter how it ends, we can't be greeted with a crying face every day, right?"
"At least that's how I see it. If a battle comes, so be it. It's just a matter of life and death. You can't escape it, and you can't be a superhero and deliver a devastating blow. So, facing it with a smile and with composure is the best outcome."
Mike nodded emphatically in response to Luo Chen's words, indicating his complete agreement.
This is why Mike has come to admire this young man so much in just a few days.
He was both brave and resourceful, and it was especially on the night he went to Wu Hao's villa that Mike truly witnessed Luo Chen's prowess.
On someone else's turf, they showed no fear whatsoever, instead appearing quite at ease.
“Mike, I forgot to tell you, the Yellow Springs Road is what you call the Western Hell. That might not be the most accurate way to put it, but it’s pretty close.”
"So that's what it means. That's quite scary, but don't worry, we'll definitely get into heaven."
Luo Chen thought Mike would say something profound, but after hearing the second half of his sentence, he realized that Mike was just a half-baked idiot.
"I don't like hearing that. I love living the most."
The two walked and stopped, and arrived at the front gate. Wu Hao's resting place was very well done, with lights shining even at night.
"Mike, turn off all the lights later. It won't do us any good. Only in the dark can we deal with enemies in the dark."
Luo Chen then noticed that everyone was wearing night vision goggles.
"We should just wear night vision goggles at night; the lights will give us away."
Mike responded and turned to give the order.
Wu Hao also handed over full authority over his people to Mike, mainly because Wu Hao lacked a leader like Mike, and Wu Hao handled many things on his own.
Mike, however, has ample experience.
"The sandbags are quite thick," Luo Chen remarked, noting that a heavy machine gun was placed in the middle of the sandbags—a formidable weapon.
He's probably the best guy Wu Hao has, not counting the others.
"It's unrealistic for the opposing team to try and break through in the early game; you guys need to hold your ground."
Luo Chen then gave a few more instructions and left.
After arriving at the back door, I asked number five again, and the situation there seemed alright.
Luo Chen wasn't too worried. After finishing all that, he went back and changed his clothes.
Afterwards, they went to the armory and selected some weapons.
"Old Wu, where is the highest observation point here?" Luo Chen asked as he returned to the villa.
Wu Hao thought for a moment and replied, "The second villa has the best observation point, and it's also the highest."
"what are you up to?"
Before receiving a response, Wu Hao saw Luo Chen leave a message: "Be careful later, I'm going to make preparations."
Luo Chen went upstairs to the second villa, opened his briefcase, and placed several shotguns in the hall. He then went upstairs and placed several more guns there.
Finally, they reached the top floor. Luo Chen found a spot that could cover the entire rest area and set up the two Barrett rifles.
His purpose in doing this was to provide the best possible support, as it's quite difficult for one person to survive a gunfight.
"Can everyone hear me? Response received." Luo Chen spoke into the walkie-talkie.
"receive!"
"receive."
Hearing the reply from the walkie-talkie, Luo Chen continued, "If the other side attacks and breaks through, everyone retreat to the villas in buildings four or five."
"Don't be afraid, everyone. There are only two paths ahead: either go to hell or stay in this world. We have no other choice."
"I hope to see you all again after this is over."
