Chapter 6 Class Meeting

Class 01, 2022, Automation major.

The school requires that class leaders be selected in advance to facilitate management during military training.

When the four of them walked into the classroom, a man in his forties stood on the podium. He wore glasses and looked very kind, except that his hairline was a little high.

The gender ratio in this major is slightly unbalanced. There are only seven girls in the class of thirty students. Yet, this is still the class with the highest ratio of girls in the entire department.

"My name is Zhao Qun. I'll be your college counselor for the next four years. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions." He then wrote his name and phone number on the blackboard: "Same number on WeChat."

Zhao Qun wrote down the positions of the class leaders on the blackboard and said, "Everyone, please introduce yourselves first. Those interested in running for class leader will then prepare a three-minute campaign speech. Let's start now, starting with the first person in the first row."

"My name is Bai Wei, I'm from Sichuan Province, and I'm very happy to be your classmate..."

"My name is Chen Zhijun, from Hainan Province. Nice to meet you all. I like..."

"My name is Wang Zeting, and I'm from Shandong Province. I don't have any special skills except that I'm very strong. From now on, if there's any heavy or tiring work in class, just call me." Wang Zeting's honest speech aroused everyone's good-natured laughter.

"My name is Si Mingyu, and I'm from Xijing. I'm very happy to meet you all. I hope we can help each other in our future studies."

"My name is Lin Wenhui, and I'm from Guangdong Province. Everyone is welcome to visit us. We have a lot of delicious food."

"Is there anyone from Hu Jian?" Someone asked from the bottom, causing everyone to burst into laughter.

"Without Hu Jianren, he would be running so fast that we can't catch him." Lin Wenhui replied humorously, and everyone laughed again.

"My name is Shen Kaihang, a local from Shanghai. I'm happy to be your guide and take you on a tour of this beautiful city."

Although Shen Kaihang's looks were not at the school idol level in Jiaotong University, he was definitely ranked in the top 100. With the addition of his card-playing clothes, he immediately attracted the attention of everyone in the class.

But it was just attention. Being handsome was useless in a class full of mostly men. As for the remaining seven girls, they also knew their own conditions. For them, going to college was to study hard.

"My name is Xia Tong, and I'm also from Shanghai. Nice to meet you all. My hobby is..."

After the self-introduction, it was time to run for class leaders. Several interested students took turns to go on stage and give speeches.

No matter how much work there is in the class, five class leaders are enough. There is no need to create so many positions that there is one official for every two people.

Therefore, when a class of 35 people was selecting five class leaders, the competition pressure was not that great. In other words, when selecting the class monitor, there were three people competing for one position.

In the end, Xia Tong became the class monitor, Chen Zhijun was the sports committee member, Bai Wei was the cultural and entertainment publicity committee member, Wang Zeting was elected as the labor and health committee member, and the study committee member was a girl named Dai Miaomiao because she had the highest entrance score in the class.

Although the next step after becoming a class leader is to apply to join the school student union, the other three people in the dormitory are not interested in this. After all, it seems that there is no need to use this kind of experience to improve the starting point for future job hunting.

Xia Tong created a class WeChat group on the spot, added everyone including counselor Zhao Qun, and collected the class fees together with Bai Wei.

When the meeting was over, counselor Zhao Qun called Si Mingyu to his office alone.

"Please sit down." Zhao Qun pointed to the chair next to him.

After Si Mingyu sat down, he continued, "Principal Fan called me about your situation. You won't have to live on campus anymore after the military training is over."

"Thank you, Teacher Zhao." Si Mingyu said politely.

Jiang Xueyi sent him a WeChat message in the morning, saying that the matter of not living on campus had been handled and she had contacted the school vice-principal, so when Zhao Qun called him just now, he guessed it was about this.

Zhao Qun took out a form and said, "Fill out the application and go through the formalities to complete the registration. The accommodation fee will be refunded to your card."

After receiving the form, Si Mingyu asked, "Teacher Zhao, can I keep my dormitory bed?"

"You have to pay to reserve a bed. It's up to you." Zhao Qun said after taking a sip of tea.

"Then keep it." Si Mingyu quickly filled out the form.

Zhao Qun took the application form, corrected a few irregularities, and said, "Okay, that's it. Call me anytime if you need anything in the future."

"Then I'll trouble you, Teacher Zhao." Si Mingyu stood up and bowed slightly, then took out two packs of Zhonghua cigarettes wrapped in newspaper from his backpack and placed them on the table.

I bought this this morning after receiving a message from Jiang Xueyi. Even though the vice principal had spoken, the actual responsibility still rested with counselor Zhao Qun. Besides, we'd have plenty of time to spend together over the next four years. Whether Zhao Qun smoked or not wasn't important; if I didn't smoke, I could just give it away.

"Take it away, take it away! How can this be possible?" Zhao Qun immediately stood up, picked up the cigarette and was about to hand it back.

"It's just a little token of your appreciation. Please don't be polite, Teacher Zhao." As he spoke, Si Mingyu opened the door and ran out.

Since the student was sincere, Zhao Qun did not chase him out.

Although Jiaotong University has several vice presidents, President Fan is one of the top three vice presidents. Zhao Qun naturally has to take his call seriously. Besides, his student couldn't come from an ordinary family, otherwise how could he have such a close relationship with President Fan?

After Si Mingyu returned to the dormitory, the three of them were naturally curious about why counselor Zhao Qun wanted to see him alone.

"I signed a contract with a company and I am busy with their affairs in my spare time. Sometimes I have to work overtime at night, so I applied to the school for part-time study." Si Mingyu told the truth. There was nothing to hide.

"That's awesome! You started working right after enrolling. Great!" Lin Wenhui gave a thumbs up.

"I was just lucky. I invested with the idea of giving it a try." Si Mingyu waved his hands repeatedly to show his modesty.

"You are really amazing. Which company did you sign with?" Wang Zeting asked.

"A scientific research institute under the Shenzhou Group." Si Mingyu replied.

Shen Kaihang immediately took out his phone to check and exclaimed, "It's incredible. A big company."

Lin Wenhui and Wang Zeting immediately came over and looked shocked after watching it.

"This is good news, we should celebrate," Lin Wenhui suggested.

"We must celebrate." Wang Zeting also agreed.

Shen Kaihang frowned and asked, “Then you won’t live in the dormitory anymore?”

"I still have to live in the dormitory, but it won't be considered a violation if I don't come back at night after my application is approved." The university does have dormitory inspections, sometimes led by teachers and sometimes by the discipline minister of the student union. If you are not there, you will be criticized, and too many times will affect your graduation.

"Come on, I'll treat you today." Si Mingyu invited.
