Chapter 77 About the Birds, Part Two

Chapter 77 About the Birds, Part Two

It was late at night, and the weather should have been clear, but not a single star could be seen. It was as if a thick black cloth had covered the city.

The streets were deserted and silent.

After all, the Special Abilities Division had already given notice. Unlike other places in Japan, they still carry a lot of weight in Yokohama.

Because of the near-curfew and power outages, most people went to bed early, except for... the unusual ones.

Ichida was no ordinary man. He was not a native of Yokohama. He had committed a crime elsewhere and fled to the somewhat chaotic Yokohama, settling down in the most chaotic area, Raiba Street.

He would do some "business" in his spare time. He would lure young children and then resell them. He made a lot of money in the process.

He has a big deal to do tonight. As the Port Mafia’s influence grows, his business is becoming increasingly difficult, and he has even been interrupted several times by those meddlesome people.

Ichida made up his mind that after completing this big deal, he would leave Yokohama, no, leave Japan. Why should he hang himself on Yokohama when he could do business anywhere?

He found six identical blond boys. They were good-looking, but the biggest selling point was that they were sextuplets. Even though they had significant intellectual disabilities, there were wealthy people with unique tastes who were willing to pay for them.

Soon, that person will arrive, and tomorrow he can fly away!

Thinking about this, Ichida felt a little reluctant, but that's just how the adult world is.

Some heavy footsteps approached, and Ichida thought, his money... no, his guests have arrived.

He was a cautious man, and he brought more than ten bodyguards with him. Ichida looked down on this big customer. If he was afraid of danger, why didn't he just send someone else?

The man was overjoyed to see six somewhat dazed, identical-looking blond boys with no signs of plastic surgery.

But upon closer inspection, he said with great dissatisfaction, "Didn't I say I wanted the complete set of goods? Why are you mistreating them?"

Ichida denied it in surprise: "I didn't do anything except give them food and water!"

He's not some greenhorn doing business for the first time; why would he deliberately damage his own goods? This person must be deliberately causing trouble in order to negotiate a lower price...

Ichida stared at the mutilated blond boys, his mind going blank. What the hell! How did they end up like this!

Two of the six boys, one missing both ears and the other missing both legs, remained expressionless, as if they weren't the ones who were injured. Strange liquid was even oozing from their wounds, which was definitely not blood!

The wealthy businessman who wanted to buy them was somewhat distressed and intended to touch their wounds, but his hands got covered in green slime, and his expression twisted in pain.

Ichida noticed his displeased expression and assumed it was because of the defective product. Just as he was about to make up an excuse or give him a discount, the man uncontrollably vomited the same substance from his mouth.

Then came the eyes and ears, and a viscous liquid continued to seep from the man's body.

The man kept making indistinct sounds, mixed with strange water noises. Ichida stood behind him, only able to see his somewhat hunched back, completely baffled.

The ground began to tremble slightly. Would trucks still be passing by so late?

The thought flashed through Ichida's mind, and then he realized something was wrong. This was Leiba Street, so where did the truck come from?

He looked back, but it was pitch black and he couldn't see anything. Even if there was a power outage tonight, it was still too dark. Ichida even felt like he was surrounded by darkness.

What he didn't notice was the bloodshot expression on the bodyguard's face, and... that the rich man had lost consciousness and was limply hanging on the bodyguard, who was also vomiting green viscous fluid.

A faint light suddenly appeared in the distance. Gradually, the light source grew brighter and brighter, but the strange tremors on the ground also grew stronger, as if something large was walking towards them.

"Hey! Where are you going?"

The bodyguards who remained behind shouted at one of their companions, but the man did not react and simply walked straight toward the light source.

The light source moved toward them, and the first thing they saw was a thin, bony hand covered with sparse black hair and only three fingers with sharp nails, holding a lantern in its hand.

This is a monster! That's what everyone who remained conscious thought.

But the person heading towards the light source did not stop, and the monster also rushed in both directions. In this moment, everyone could see clearly the appearance of the owner of the hand carrying the lantern.

A strange-looking, jet-black bird covered in large, bright yellow eyes that were constantly turning, as if monitoring everything.

The deceived person had already reached the vicinity of the lantern in the giant bird's hand. The bright yellow eyes suddenly turned red, and at the same time, the giant bird opened its big beak. Any normal person who saw this scene would turn around and run away.

But the man stared intently at the light emanating from the lantern until—his head was bitten to pieces by the large bird.

The headless body fell to the ground with a thud, and the bird's eyes returned to their original clear yellow. Just as they breathed a slight sigh of relief, it began to shake the lantern in its hand again.

"No! Why did you..."

His companions, once again mesmerized, headed toward the monster. They tried to stop them but to no avail. Finally, someone couldn't take it anymore and picked up a weapon, but instead aimed it at his unsuspecting companions.

With a bang, the man who had stopped his companion from going to his death fell to the ground, shot in the head and killed instantly.

What are you doing?!

Thanks to the wealthy businessman who is now dead, his bodyguards are now locked in a fierce battle, and those who were misled, like their companions just moments before, have had their heads bitten off, with no one intervening.

As if subjected to an incredible mental shock, everyone present went berserk and began attacking each other.

The two who were with the six blond boys were both dead, their bodies covered in green slime that had been vomited out. The six boys were even more mutilated.

Of the four boys who remained intact, three more lost their arms, eyes, and chins, leaving only the smiling boy.

A black swan carrying a parasol appeared in a corner of the city. She sighed and stood up. She had to go find her brothers; they had been hurt, and she could feel their pain.

*

The snow-white bird stood out against the dark night, like a tiny signpost. X and Rimbaud followed behind it as it flew to find the big black ball that had caused the city-wide blackout.

What a chaotic scene this is!

Ilya's crippled brothers stood by like onlookers. Several humans were fighting amongst themselves. Ilya was frantically banging on the large bird's spherical body with his parasol. The large bird was still shaking its lamp, completely ignoring the black swan beside it, single-mindedly carrying out its "salvation" mission.

The little bird had already flown into the panicked crowd, pecking at each person. Even when attacked, it didn't turn red; it just diligently restored their mental energy. Finally, its work began to show results, leaving only one person in a state of panic. That person had only one bullet left in their gun and was firing wildly.

The stray bullets struck the blond boy who was watching, and the black swan let out a piercing howl.

Rimbaud and X were fine, but the rest of the people were thrown into panic again, and the little bird's efforts were in vain.

A small white bird turned red, and the bright red bird angrily rushed towards the black swan, biting hard with its large beak. Unlike fragile humans, the black swan was tough and unharmed after being bitten.

The huffy white bird landed on X's head, turning its rear end towards Ilya, preferring not to see him.

Unlike the unassuming R&D department head, who is in a state of "you can't hit me, I can't hit you," Lambo, a fake level 5 but real level EX employee who has been trained by Adam for several days, can participate in the big melee in front of him. However, the EGO weapon he carries is somewhat special.

"Manager, did you bring a cognitive filter?"

Rimbaud's EGO weapon is CENSORED, commonly known as the digital deletion clamp. Before he was dispatched, Adam and Angela repeatedly warned him not to let the supervisor see this weapon directly without a cognitive filter.

To be honest, X's body has a weak cognitive filter, which makes the world he sees slightly different from others. However, out of respect for data deletion, he still wears glasses.

At the company, Angela would adjust the cognitive filter's intensity parameters based on his needs, but for a finished product like glasses with fixed parameters, the cognitive filter seemed to be set too high.

Rimbaud has been transformed into an adorable chibi-style character, even his hands are now round, and the other anomalies over there have become overly cartoonish in appearance.

The giant bird now looks like a big black ball, not to mention the big-eyed cutie Ilya. This mental shock is almost as bad as facing data deletion.

Let's resolve this quickly.

The little bird's bite had already left Ilya with very low health, especially since she had low resistance to erosion damage and even had aggro on the big bird, so she was quickly killed.

The black swan took a deep look at the positions of her brothers, then collapsed in resentment.

With her death, the boys miraculously recovered their health and became able-bodied children again.

The children spontaneously entered the portable containment device that Rimbaud had brought and were stored in the subspace. Now, only Ichida, who had been bitten by the giant bird and was now reduced to one person, and the giant bird that was about to bite down remained.

A golden subspace cube silently appeared beneath Ichida's feet, engulfing him completely. The large bird missed its target, looked around in confusion, and even turned back to look at X and the small bird above his head.

The number of pincers is not easy to use against a large bird with a black resistance of 0.5, so X tried to trick the large bird.

After all, to some extent, the supervisor and the big bird have certain similarities.

Big Bird: I'll kill the animals first, then they won't be killed by the monster!

Supervisor: If I kill the office worker first, then the office worker won't be killed by the anomaly!

As the tricked bird sat down on the ground, and even the lantern was taken by X, the streetlights crackled and lit up one after another.
