Chapter 8 The Emperor and the Concubine
Cuiwei and Nanny Qin were shocked when they heard this.
Nanny Qin stuttered, "So, does that mean the man in black that night was a Hu person?"
Li Yueyao nodded and said, "This indirectly explains Qian Lou's speculation.
If the man in black is a Hu person, then whether this imperial concubine is the biological daughter of the Earl of Anping is questionable."
"Qian Lou, go check it out first."
Qian Lou bowed his head and said respectfully, "Yes."
The three were talking when Sun Fu came in. Seeing Nanny Qin and Qian Lou were there, he bowed his head and said respectfully:
"Your Highness, the medicinal bath is ready."
Li Yueyao nodded after hearing this and said, "Well, then carry it to His Majesty's bedroom and serve him a bath later."
"Yes." Sun Fu said respectfully.
But he did not retreat and stood still.
Li Yueyao sighed upon seeing this and said, "I will be staying in the palace for a few days, and Nanny Qin and Qian Lou will be serving me during this time.
If I leave the palace, I will take them all with me, and it won't affect you."
Sun Fu could clearly feel Li Yueyao's relief after hearing what she said, but she said, "Your Highness, this servant...this servant has something to report."
"explain."
"While I was busy with some things just now, I thought about it carefully. Your Majesty has often accompanied the Imperial Concubine to the Imperial Horse Farm in the past two months."
"The Imperial Stables? Your Majesty is ill, why would he go to the Imperial Stables with the Imperial Concubine?" Li Yueyao said angrily.
"Your Majesty is ill. If you go there, you will just watch the imperial concubine ride a horse, but Your Majesty will not get on the horse." Sun Fu replied.
"This is outrageous. Your Majesty is not feeling well, yet he still wants to join the imperial concubine in making trouble. Doesn't the Queen care?" Li Yueyao scolded.
"The Empress has advised His Majesty. The relationship between His Majesty and the Empress has been very tense over the past two years..."
Li Yueyao wanted to roll her eyes after hearing this. She really wanted to beat this stupid nephew to death.
It would be fine if my father doesn't appear in my dreams tonight. If he does, I will definitely tell him about all the good things he has done.
It would be best if father and brother could beat up this stupid nephew, so that we can feel relieved.
Li Yueyao had been in Chunshan for seven years and had not returned to the palace. She was very angry today. Cuiwei quickly brought Li Yueyao a glass of water and asked her to drink it to calm her down.
After a while, Li Yueyao said, "Let's go and arrange for His Majesty to have a medicinal bath."
Nanny Qin followed Li Yueyao to the emperor's bedroom.
But the emperor was still sleeping, and the queen was sitting on a stool beside him, staring at him blankly.
Li Yueyao stepped forward and saluted, saying, "Greetings to the Queen."
"Aunt, we are all family, so there's no need to be so polite." The queen said calmly.
Li Yueyao stood up and walked to the emperor, gently waking him up.
The emperor opened his eyes and looked at Li Yueyao. He was in a trance for a moment, then he came to his senses and remembered why his aunt was here.
"Your Majesty, are you feeling better?" Li Yueyao asked.
"Much better, I don't feel dizzy anymore."
Li Yueyao heard this and said, "In that case, let's give Your Majesty acupuncture first, and then a medicinal bath. This way, the toxins can be forced out bit by bit."
"Thank you, aunt."
Li Yueyao thought of the stories she had heard about the emperor for most of the day. She felt sorry for his misfortune and angry at his lack of fighting spirit. She sighed deeply and said nothing.
Reaching out to untie the emperor's clothes, Cuiwei quickly handed over the needle bag in her hand.
Under the Queen's watchful gaze, Li Yueyao began to give acupuncture to the Emperor.
Outside the bedroom, Sun Fu changed his previous respectful and humble attitude and looked down at Qian Lou condescendingly and said:
"Congratulations, Eunuch Qian, for regaining the favor of Her Royal Highness the Grand Princess."
Qian Lou lowered his head and smiled gently, "I am a humble person who has been trapped in the imperial court for many years. It is a rare opportunity that Your Highness still remembers me. It is my honor."
Sun Fu sneered after hearing this: "After all, this palace still belongs to His Majesty. When Eunuch Qian leaves the palace with the Grand Princess, please let me know so that I can see him off."
"Eunuch Sun has a heart, for sure."
Qian Lou still replied with a smile.
Inside the hall, Li Yueyao finished acupuncture for the emperor and pricked the acupoint with a needle. A stream of black blood flowed out of the needle hole, accompanied by a fishy smell.
The emperor felt even worse when he saw this. Even though he didn't know medicine, he knew he was poisoned.
"Aunt, can you find out how the poison was administered?" the emperor asked.
"The person who drugged us was very careful, and we haven't found out the clues yet," said Li Yueyao.
Then he said to the emperor: "Sun Fu is a loser. He didn't even know you were poisoned. I have brought Qian Lou here and asked him to investigate."
The emperor was surprised when he heard this and said, "Qian Lou? Well, he is more suitable for this job."
"I'm not familiar with the situation in the palace, so I transferred Aunt Qin here to serve." Li Yueyao said again.
"Madame Qin?" The emperor was surprised.
"Well, Aunt Qin took care of your mother and your grandmother. How could you send her to be a lowly servant in the laundry department?"
"Aunt, you don't know, Nanny Qin..." the emperor explained.
"Well, I heard that she caused the imperial concubine to have a miscarriage, so you exiled her."
The emperor said nothing after hearing this.
Li Yueyao added: "He has suffered a lot in the laundry department over the past few years, and your mother and grandmother's reputation must always be taken into consideration.
She will stay with me for two days, and then make plans after we have investigated the matter. What do you think?"
After Li Yueyao finished speaking, she stretched out her hand and tugged at the emperor's sleeve, then winked at the queen. The emperor saw this and said:
"Well, then let's do as my aunt says."
Then he looked at the Queen and said, "Your Majesty, you have worked hard today. Go and rest first. I am glad that my aunt is here."
After hearing this, the queen hesitated for a moment, looked at the emperor's unpleasant face, and then bowed and took her leave.
Li Yueyao quickly stood up and saluted, saying, "Farewell, Queen."
After the queen left, the emperor said unhappily, "Why did you have to be so respectful to her?"
Li Yueyao said casually: "You are my eldest nephew, and she is the queen. This is the difference between you two."
Then he changed the subject: "With so much going on today, why is the Imperial Concubine not here?"
When the emperor heard Li Yueyao mention the imperial concubine, he smiled gently and said:
“The imperial concubine has been unwell recently, so I didn’t take her with me to the Imperial Ancestral Temple.
I just heard from the Queen that she had come, but I was in a coma, so she sent someone back."
When Li Yueyao saw the emperor mention the imperial concubine, her face lit up with joy, as if she felt a little better.
I couldn't help but want to slap him.
"Aunt, the Queen has passed away. You can tell me what you have found out now."
After hearing this, Li Yueyao slowly helped the emperor up.
"That person is hiding too deeply, and we haven't caught him yet. Please wait a moment. Qian Lou will come to report at the latest tomorrow."
"However, I have something to ask you. What happened between you and Concubine Xian?" Li Yueyao asked.
When the emperor heard Li Yueyao asking about the virtuous concubine, he was confused.
"The virtuous concubine is filled with jealousy and even attempts to interfere in state affairs. I have not deposed her because of the respect given to the old Grand Tutor and the Right Prime Minister."
"Full of jealousy? Interfering in state affairs? Your Majesty, are you talking about the virtuous concubine?" Li Yueyao asked in surprise.
"Humph, I just showed some favor to the Imperial Concubine when she first entered the palace, and she was not satisfied. She repeatedly advised me not to go to her.
The Queen didn't say anything, but she actually took herself seriously and even admonished me."
Li Yueyao felt a pain in her heart after hearing this and felt like she needed to take a quick-acting heart pill.
After a long pause, he asked the emperor with a stern face, "Then why are you interfering in government affairs?"
"It's not her fault actually. It's just that after her husband Zhaoqing passed away, her personality changed drastically. I hope she can be happier.
I let her participate in state affairs occasionally, but I didn't let her attend court. She just helped me deal with memorials and the like.
This virtuous concubine also kept talking, and I was really annoyed by it, so I scolded her.
Who knew that she would be angry with me and never come to see me again. I told her that if she had the ability, she should never come to see me in her life.
As a result, she stayed in Yong'an Palace for five years without leaving, which really pissed me off."
