Chapter 36 The Real World

Ruan Qin's hand clenched tightly at his side.

Silent Han walked over without making a sound and bent down to help Ruan Chen pick up the scattered documents.

Ruan Qin, with his hands behind his back, sized him up. "What kind of Tom, Dick, or Harry comes here looking for attention? Does he think he's some kind of protector of a flower?"

Silent Han brushed the dust off the documents in her hand, handed them to Ruan Chen, and said calmly, "Excuse me, you stepped on someone else's things. Please move aside."

Ruan Qin's veins bulged on the back of his hand, and he smashed it toward Chen Mohan's temple!

Ruan Chen's beautiful eyes flashed with murderous intent, and she was about to make a move when Chen Mohan casually tilted her head to dodge the punch and easily grabbed Ruan Qin's wrist!

He was not as strong as Ruan Qin, but he pinned her in the perfect spot, and Ruan Qin couldn't break free at all!

But Chen Mohan was very tactful.

He voluntarily let go of her hand, his tone still polite, "Excuse me, student, could you please move aside?"

Ruan Qin gave a bloodthirsty smile, gently rubbing his wrist. He looked at Chen Mohan with the same gaze one would give an interesting prey, and asked, "Are you also participating in the assessment?"

Silent Han smiled politely but didn't say anything.

"I look forward to seeing you in the training grounds."

A blatant threat.

Ruan Chen sighed. She wasn't confident about the assessment to begin with, and now she also had to take care of a burden named Chen Mohan.

After all, he was trying to help her.

The first assessment officially began three days after the materials were submitted.

The assessment lasted for three days. The first day consisted of the most common knowledge points, with two exam papers containing an insane number of questions, covering almost the entire encyclopedia of knowledge points.

Fortunately, although the scope of the assessment is broad, it is not in-depth.

After a day of exams, Ruan Chen didn't feel mentally exhausted, but her hands were incredibly sore.

If her handwriting weren't so neat and precise, even she herself wouldn't recognize it after a few days.

The second day's content was interesting; it was training.

The purpose of the training was to conduct the trial on the third day.

The most ruthless part of the assessment and elimination process for the four major institutes is not the terrifying test papers on the first day, but the training on the second day.

The person from the First Affiliated Hospital who came to conduct the training was a young man surnamed Liu, who looked to be in his early thirties. He wore thick-rimmed black glasses and had a somewhat bookish air about him.

Ruan Qin and Ruan Yunhan exchanged a glance. This year's training was actually attended by the secretary of Nan Jing, the director of the institute. Could it be that there was a genius among this group of people whom Nan Jing had his eye on?

Ruan Yunhan and Ruan Qin felt a slight stirring in their hearts and simultaneously had the same thought: Could it be that they came for me?

They were originally the only two students admitted to Huating Academy through the guaranteed admission program. While abroad, they had participated in a summer camp and academic seminar organized by the academy. Now, due to certain reasons, they have to take the assessment...

When they visited Professor Chen at the First Affiliated Hospital last year, they ran into Director Nan Jing. At the time, he jokingly said that Professor Chen had two outstanding students, and that it would be better to give one of these two geniuses to him.

The more they thought about it, the more they felt it was themselves.

Even her sitting posture became more upright.

If I were to be taken under Nan Jing's wing... I might have the opportunity to enter the innermost circle of power in this country in the future.

Even the Ruan family, with its vast fortune, could only bow their heads in front of those people!

"Students, the purpose of our training today is very simple," Secretary Liu said succinctly, "to help you unleash your deepest potential and teach you how to master and use it."

A strangely shaped black device was placed beside him. He patted the machine and said, "I'll explain it to you directly, but you might find it hard to understand. I'll just ask a student to come up and demonstrate."

He pointed to Ruan Yunhan sitting directly in front of him, "This student, please come up here."

Ruan Yunhan had already learned what this was through other channels. With a smile on her lips and confidence, she walked onto the stage, put her hand into the instrument, grasped the slightly cool sensor inside, and concentrated.

On the instrument, a row of blue lights lit up one by one.

Other students in the audience, who knew what it was, gasped in surprise when they saw the seven blue lights illuminate.

"Level 7!"

"She may master level seven weapons in the future!"

"How are we supposed to perform this assessment? We might as well just admit defeat!"

"She originally had a guaranteed admission spot, but it was canceled?" Someone glanced at Ruan Chen, their eyes carrying a pointed meaning.

Hearing the whispers from below the stage, Secretary Liu nodded. "It is indeed level seven mental strength. This world may be a bit different from what most people think, for example, things like mental strength that are invisible and intangible."

"The secular world often categorizes many strange phenomena as metaphysics, but in fact, many things are driven by spiritual power."

"In the world we live in, many advanced weapons and large-scale precision equipment require mental strength to operate. Many profound research projects can only be undertaken by people with outstanding mental strength."

"That's also why we select 'geniuses'."

"But students, don't think that just because you have excellent grades you're guaranteed success. Not everyone the world calls a genius has outstanding mental strength. But anyone with outstanding mental strength will shine wherever they are."

"Therefore, outstanding academic performance is the first step in our selection process for the Rising Star Class."

"The second step is today. I need to know whether you can actually mobilize your mental energy."

Secretary Liu stepped to the side and gestured, "We can begin."

Ruan Qin followed closely behind, reached out his hand, and closed his eyes.

It also has seven blue lights.

The commotion from the audience grew even louder.

"Weren't these two originally admitted through the guaranteed admission program?"

"Damn it, what are you arguing with us about?"

Many people looked at Ruan Chen, who was sitting calmly, with resentment.

"It seems like it's all because of her, isn't it? Honestly, it's her own family matter, why does she have to drag us into it?"

Ruan Chen seemed not to hear at all, leaning back lazily in her chair, watching the people go up one after another.

Actually, she was nervous too.

Silent Han, Level 5.

Li Zimu, Level 5.

Soon, the screening of the previous people was completed. Out of the twenty-two people, eleven were unable to mobilize their mental power, or their mental power was below level four, and they could not meet the requirements of the First Academy's Rising Star Class for the time being.

Someone burst into tears.

Secretary Liu comforted them, "You still have a chance. The college entrance examination and various competitions can help you get into the First Affiliated Hospital. Mental strength is not something you are born with and can be constant. It can increase or decrease depending on your state of mind. Don't be fixated on one moment."

He finally turned his gaze to Ruan Chen, "This student, it's your turn."

He came for 'R'.

Ruan Chen.

Before leaving the institute today, a group of old men were still betting on what level Ruan Chen's mental strength was.

Ruan Chen took a deep breath, put her hand inside, grasped the sensor, and closed her eyes.

The room was silent except for the ticking of the clock's second hand.

Fifteen seconds later, Ruan Chen opened her eyes.

Not a single light was on.

But no one noticed that her lowered eyes were bloodshot, and her gaze seemed to have aged ten years, lonely and desolate.

Ruan Yunhan crossed her arms and laughed out loud.

Ruan Qin also laughed sarcastically, and spat out a low spit, "Trash, you're not even worthy of being my opponent."

Others also started complaining.

"What? They can't even mobilize their mental energy, and they've managed to get rid of two recommended students and are now going against us?"

"This kind of person is incompetent themselves and can't stand seeing others do well."

"It's really unlucky to be in the same class as this kind of person."

Chen Mohan clearly hadn't expected Ruan Chen to end up like this.

He glanced coldly at the jeering crowd. "Back then, you all jumped around quite enthusiastically in the live stream on campus, didn't you? Dare you say you weren't part of the team that took screenshots, recorded the screen, and reported it? Why didn't you think of today? The fact that you're standing here shows that you're already better than the vast majority of people, so why are you still playing the victim card game?"

The discussions subsided.

Secretary Liu gestured for everyone to leave. Those who passed the test would go directly to the training ground tomorrow, while those who were eliminated... well, that's the end of it.

Only he and Ruan Chen remained in the room.

Seeing Ruan Chen's distraught appearance, Secretary Liu assumed she had suffered a blow and worried that this genius would never recover.

So he took Ruan Chen's hand and placed it into the instrument. He said, "You might be doing it wrong. Try again following my rhythm..."

The next second, his eyes widened in surprise and astonishment!
