Chapter 280 Wanted

Ruan Chen didn't wait for Wu An, nor was there any need to.

She left after Wu An entered the office area.

As long as Duan Jingfu doesn't suddenly become mentally disabled, he won't target Wu An again.

Firstly, Wu An didn't know much. Secondly, even if she went out and talked nonsense, no one would believe a student. Thirdly, and most importantly, after Wu An came out, at Ruan Chen's request, she communicated with her school and she will return to school tomorrow morning.

If Wu An disappears at this critical juncture, her high school and family will definitely report it to the police and make a big fuss about it.

Ruan Chen had already seen where Fu Jianzhi was through the mental network last night. She walked towards Fu Jianzhi's room, thinking that even if she was going to leave, she should at least say goodbye to Fu Jianzhi first.

Of course, she wouldn't tell Fu Jianzhi what she had discovered here.

Fu Jianzhi sat with his back to the window, reading a book. The sparse shadows of the trees outside the window fell on him, revealing the deep and clear features of the young man as he gradually matured, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, making him a pleasing sight.

Ruan Chen was about to knock on the door when Fu Jianzhi's landline rang, right next to him.

Ruan Chen raised her hand, then gently lowered it.

"Professor Duan?" Fu Jianzhi's voice held a hint of surprise.

Was it Duan Jingfu who called him? Ruan Chen felt a little worried.

“Impossible,” she heard Fu Jianzhi deny with a hint of anger. “Ruan Chen wouldn’t do such a thing. She looks down on your junk, and she wouldn’t even have a jealous thought!”

"Su Ze instructed her?" Fu Jianzhi sneered. "Professor Duan, we all know that Su Ze is currently in Crescent Bay. Tell me, how can he send a message to Ruan Chen through the time rift where Crescent Bay is located?"

"So I want to know, what did she do that went against your wishes that you're throwing such mud at her?! After all, she was your student for several years!"

Fu Jianzhi's voice grew increasingly angry. Although Ruan Chen couldn't hear what Duan Jingfu was saying on the other end of the phone, she could guess the gist of it.

He must have told Fu Jianzhi that he was instructed by Su Ze to steal things from the Martial Arts Research Institute.

Ruan Chen planned to push the door open and go in to talk things out with Fu Jianzhi, but her phone started vibrating wildly in her pocket.

Ruan Chen checked her phone first.

It turned out to be nobody.

Ruan Chen didn't know when or how this thing had hacked into her phone, but she really didn't care about it right now. After disconnecting, she tossed the phone back into her pocket.

After she hung up the phone, the corridor surveillance camera turned to a different angle and activated the two-way intercom function.

His voice was controlled to a range that only Ruan Chen could hear clearly.

"Ruan Chen, forget about all that, it'll be too late if we don't leave now! Duan Jingfu just initiated the arrest warrant for you! The same methods he used on Su Ze back then!"

“Once the arrest warrant is issued, all your backup plans will be cut off—no one will respond to a wanted criminal’s requests!”

"The procedure will be communicated to the entire Martial Arts Research Institute in three minutes. You need to leave here before then!"

"Otherwise, you really won't be able to leave!"

Nobody had just finished speaking when Fu Jianzhi, who was inside the room, seemed to sense something and turned around.

Their eyes met through the glass window.

Fu Jianzhi's lips moved slightly.

"Ruan Chen, run!"

Their eyes met for what seemed like only a second, or perhaps just a moment. Ruan Chen turned around, didn't take the stairs, but instead braced herself against the windowsill with one hand. Like a nimble little deer, she leaped down and ran off without looking back!

She faintly heard the whistling of the wind behind her ear. Without turning her head, Ruan Chen reached out and scooped it up. Her palm felt the warm, smooth texture of wood. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at the boy standing on the second floor, gazing at her with a distant look.

Fortunately, the arrest warrant process is currently limited to within Beijing University of Technology. Launching a city-wide or even nationwide manhunt for Ruan Chen requires a rigorous procedure. The first step is for the research institute to sign off, followed by a report to the institute confirming the legitimacy of Duan Jingfu's request. Only after sufficient evidence is presented will Ruan Chen's name be officially added to the wanted list.

Oh right, there's also a juvenile protection procedure in between, so even if a warrant is issued, the name won't be made public like it was for Su Ze back then, and even Ruan Chen's name won't be made public.

Ruan Chen used facial recognition to exit the school gate, but her name and identity information were no longer in the school's administrative system. A glaring red light appeared, and the alarm system at the exit sounded an alarm. A security guard carrying a large, yellowed plastic water bottle came out of the guard booth and gestured for the pretty and well-behaved female student in front of him to scan her face again.

The security guard muttered, "This system has a problem. Try stepping back two steps and scanning it again."

He did receive a situation report from the Martial Arts Research Institute, but he didn't connect this good-looking, well-behaved boy with the petty thief mentioned in the report.

Ruan Chen took two steps back, pulled out her wallet from her coat pocket, took out a card, reached into the security booth and pulled out a pencil, quickly wrote a few numbers on the back, stuffed the card and pencil into the bewildered uncle's palm, and smiled sweetly, "Compensation fee, sorry."

Before the security guard could figure out what was happening, he saw the somewhat thin, fair-skinned girl kick the turnstile in mid-air!

By the time he came to his senses and realized what the "compensation fee" was for, the person had vanished, leaving only the broken turnstile and exposed wires scattered miserably on the ground, their severed ends crackling and sparking in the air.

When Ruan Chen ran to the door, a black car was already waiting for her.

That was Fu Jianzhi's usual car. Fu Jianzhi never hid anything from this driver when talking to Ruan Chen in the car, so he seemed to be a trustworthy person.

"Miss, the young master told me to follow your orders."

Ruan Chen sat in the back seat, took a breath, and looked out the window.

She didn't know what crime Duan Jingfu was going to pin on her, but given his influence in academia, she figured it was only a matter of time before he wanted to issue a nationwide warrant for her arrest.

Of course she could leave China right now, just like Su Ze, and never come back... But why should she?

Ruan Chen felt the fire in her heart burning brighter and brighter.

She did nothing wrong; in fact, she genuinely intended to forget everything that happened after leaving that underground laboratory.

At that time, she still believed in Duan Jingfu. She thought his methods were indeed too cruel and radical, but what he was researching was ultimately for the country. Her bottom line wasn't that high.

But she never expected that she was one of his prey.

Even though he had already given in, he still wouldn't let him live.
