Sirius's platinum eyes darted around, landing on the face of the man who was holding a gun and speaking. Half of his face was covered by a mask, while the other half was quite gloomy and silent.
The man who spoke felt a little guilty under Tianlang's gaze. He swallowed hard, and his tone changed from his previous nonchalant manner to one of flattery and fawning. "Tianlang, we're not rebelling against you. Our brothers think that you've worked hard and made great contributions under Su Ze all these years. Now, we don't know what's going on with Brother Ze, so you should temporarily take over as the leader. What does Su Ze mean by bringing over a little girl...?"
A gunshot rang out.
The man's expression and words froze, and a dark hole suddenly appeared between his eyebrows, from which blood gushed out moments later.
Then he fell backward to the ground and became silent.
Ruan Chen didn't know when he had crossed the six or seven steps between himself and Tianlang. In the blink of an eye, he took the gun from Tianlang's waist, aimed and fired in one smooth motion, without the slightest hesitation.
The group surrounding Tianlang and her exchanged glances, then lowered their guns after a few seconds and said in unison, "Greetings, Second Boss!"
Ruan Chen chuckled softly, tossed Tianlang's gun back, and said nothing.
"I'm sorry, Miss Ruan, it was my oversight," Tianlang said, bowing slightly.
There was a faint fear in his eyes, not because of the murderous aura that suddenly erupted from Ruan Chen, but because of her ghostly movements. Tianlang is ranked internationally, and his name is seventh in the latest ranking, but he actually failed to defend against Ruan Chen.
In other words, if the person Ruan Chen wanted to kill was him, he would have already succeeded.
"It's nothing." Ruan Chen stretched, her body gracefully relaxed, her hairpin slipped off, and her long hair cascaded down like a waterfall.
She didn't trust Tianlang that much either. Although he was someone Su Ze had arranged for her, Ruan Chen always believed that you can't judge a book by its cover, and she never dared to trust anyone easily.
Ruan Chen assumed that this was a show of force from Tianlang, firstly to see if she could keep the situation under control, and secondly to find out what was going on with Su Ze and why he had mysteriously disappeared.
During the half-year she spent living on the island, Ruan Chen had a clear understanding of the situation. Although there were several people in the gang who were on equal footing with Su Ze, Su Ze trusted Tian Lang the most, and Tian Lang's personal abilities were worthy of Su Ze's trust.
Before Ruan Chen appeared, if Su Ze were to suffer any mishap, Tian Lang would undoubtedly take over Blood Skull and become its leader.
Therefore, Ruan Chen simply did not believe that Tianlang would have been completely unaware of what was happening today.
Tianlang knelt down, picked up the hairpin for Ruan Chen, and presented it to her with both hands, saying, "Miss Ruan, this is yours."
"You can keep it for now, I'll ask you for it when I need it," Ruan Chen said, running her slender fingers through her hair and massaging her scalp. She complained softly, "I'm exhausted from the journey, my head hurts."
"I'll take you to the hotel." Tianlang gestured to his men to get the luggage and followed behind Ruan Chen.
“No need,” Ruan Chen stepped aside, gesturing for Tianlang to lead the way. “I’ll be staying in Su Ze’s room; he won’t be back for a while.”
Sirius's platinum blonde hair had grown quite long, half of it hanging down his back, obscuring his expression, but Ruan Chen could hear a slight fluctuation in his tone, "Miss Ruan, do you know where the Boss has gone?"
"good."
Ruan Chen gave an ambiguous answer.
"It's alright? What do you mean, 'alright'?" Tianlang asked if Ruan Chen knew, and Ruan Chen simply said, "It's alright."
Tianlang saw through her perfunctory attitude and wisely refrained from pressing the matter further. He said, "Then should I have all the people investigating the Boss's whereabouts withdraw? With the recent large-scale search for the Boss, some smaller gangs are starting to stir."
"No need, continue, but don't take it too seriously, just go through the motions." Ruan Chen's tone was indifferent and perfunctory. She looked at her phone without looking up, and occasionally frowned and sighed.
"Miss Ruan, is something troubling you?"
“Oh, my final exam score dropped, and my overall score was a few points lower than last time, but I don’t think the overall difficulty of the test paper fluctuated much,” Ruan Chen was really looking at the wrong questions. “Actually, I know this knowledge point, but I didn’t see that there was a trap here.”
Sirius's expression was a little stiff; he didn't quite know how to answer, so he nodded silently to show that he was listening.
Ruan Chen tripped over a stone and swayed. Tian Lang reached out to steady her and glanced at Ruan Chen's phone.
It is indeed an electronic exam paper.
"I've been so busy lately. I shouldn't have gone to the US. I haven't had time to practice my coding problems. I'm rusty," Ruan Chen complained, waving his hand. "Hey, Sirius, I remember there's an elementary school nearby, right? Can you buy me some scratch paper?"
Tianlang actually wanted to ask Ruan Chen a few more questions about Su Ze's whereabouts. Su Ze's departure was too abrupt. Ten nights ago, a dark helicopter landed at Liuli Island Airport. Su Ze was alone, without notifying anyone, leaving no word, and taking nothing. He boarded the plane and lost contact with everyone ever since.
But Ruan Chen looked like she was studying seriously and didn't want to be disturbed, so Tian Lang was too embarrassed to interrupt her train of thought. He carefully supported one of Ruan Chen's arms and watched as Ruan Chen's fingers flew across the screen, typing out lines of formulas before sending them to someone named "Bo Nian".
Sirius couldn't help but ask, "Miss Ruan, a friend?"
"I don't think so, classmate," Ruan Chen said casually.
"A boy?"
"yes."
"Then he must have a crush on you," Tianlang said casually.
Then Ruan Chen stopped, stood frozen in place for a long while, looked up at Tianlang, and asked seriously, "Why?"
"Miss Ruan, it's three in the morning in China right now. He seems to have been talking to you for quite a while, hasn't he?"
Ruan Chen swiped down the chat history with one finger, glanced at the time, and realized that Bo Nian had actually been chatting with her for more than half an hour in the middle of the night.
When the guards behind them saw that the second-in-command and Tianlang had stopped, they also stopped at a distance.
Ruan Chen remembered the report card incident when the plane was about to land. She was only familiar with Bo Nian in the top class, so she thought of asking Bo Nian for the solution to the comprehensive question.
Bo Nian replied immediately, so Ruan Chen overlooked the time difference issue.
Ruan Chen suddenly recalled the question Yu Xiaoya had asked her that day.
She asked, "Have you noticed that Bo Nian's attitude towards you is unusually good?"
Ruan Chen hadn't thought about it this way before, but now that she recalls it, what Yu Xiaoya said... seems to be true.
Otherwise, why would Bo Nian have bothered to pack his test papers so early that morning?
Ruan Chen was extremely serious. The wandering island, the missing Su Ze, and those small gangs that were eager to tear a piece of flesh off the Blood Skull were no longer so important for the time being.
"Brother Tianlang, have you ever been in a relationship?"
