☆ Being detained, buying time
Life is a damn torturous little devil, setting you on fire and making you want to pin him down and have your way with him right away, only to tragically find yourself tied to the bed, unable to move. And when you finally break free, thinking that little devil will be begging for mercy beneath you, you discover, even more ridiculously, that you're impotent!
Ye Xi felt her life was just like this—miserable and impotent. What had she done since arriving in this godforsaken place? All she did was run for her life. Just when she finally escaped Wesker's surveillance and thought she could finally be free, she fell into the government's den of wolves. Can you understand the true feelings of the outwardly calm Ye Xi? The misery she felt was no less than a stampede of thousands of alpacas.
Pretending to be calm, Ye Xi flopped onto the bed, coldly glancing at the only table in the metal room. She had been forcibly thrown into this room, and she knew with a grain of salt that escaping from this closed iron cage with no windows and no doors would be harder than climbing to heaven. Ye Xi snorted coldly, deliberately ignoring the surveillance camera in the corner of the room, and closed her eyes.
"Okay, stop being so miserable and start thinking about how to escape," Ye Xi told herself. She didn't believe the government researchers would show her any mercy. In this post-apocalyptic world, humanity was practically worthless. Oh, maybe there were good people in the government, like that handsome young man, Leon, who tried to buy her time but ended up doing more harm than good. But good people were a minority—Ye Xi thought that if their perspectives were reversed, she would probably be more proactive in conducting experiments and research. It was a stupid idea for her to worry about whether something that could give her a chance to survive deserved respect.
If the handsome young man Lyon hadn't bought enough time, that would have been fine. Although it meant Ye Xi would soon be used as a guinea pig for experiments, at least her chances of coming into contact with the T-virus would have increased. Once she got the T-virus, who would care how special the metal walls were, or how powerful or advanced the government mercenaries' weapons were? Once decomposed, not even a trace would remain. She didn't believe she couldn't escape.
However, on the other hand, Ye Xi needed to be prepared for both scenarios. She didn't believe that without the ability to induce the O virus from the T virus, she could escape from this base as easily as strolling through the streets. Leaving aside their sheer numbers and countless weapons, just in terms of strength, although Ye Xi's combat prowess was currently high, the government hadn't been supporting so many soldiers for nothing; there were always a few formidable ones, like young Leon. Ye Xi couldn't be certain that, while internally turmoil, she could still gather several people with combat abilities equal to or even higher than Leon's.
Ugh, so what should I do?! Although Ye Xi appeared relaxed and calm on the surface, the little devil inside her was already rolling on the floor. She was certain that she couldn't possibly endure the so-called rest and reflection time that Leon had bought for her—because she was incredibly agitated right now.
And that bastard An'er, I don't know if he had a stroke of luck or something, but he had such incredible luck and his luck just exploded, he actually went straight to the government base! Damn it, he must have latched onto the government's coattails. Ye Xi could already imagine that shameless bastard leisurely lying on the medical room bed, reading a book and drinking coffee!
Yes, Ye Xi didn't doubt Leon's words. Although An'er was indeed somewhat suspicious, there was no need for her to continue hiding her identity as an undercover agent in the An'er government after being captured, so she didn't believe that An'er had deliberately led her to this cursed base.
So, that damn bastard wouldn't just ignore her because of the government's treatment, would he? But his contemptuous look at the government and his tone when talking about them weren't fake. Men are so damn fickle, Ye Xi thought to herself, "An Er, if you really don't intend to take responsibility for your actions (referring to bringing her to the government base 'accidentally'), I curse your wound to spread to [beep—] so you'll be forever impotent and forced to be dominated by thousands!"
A dull knock sounded, interrupting Ye Xi's endless grumbling. She maintained her nonchalant demeanor and remained silent for a moment before the door opened. "What brings you here?" Ye Xi asked, legs crossed and arms propped up, without even glancing at the person who had entered.
There was actually no need to open her eyes. In this government base, very few people would politely knock on doors. Aside from Leon, who was trying to buy her time, Ye Xi couldn't think of anyone else who would immediately approach her. After all, her role was that of an experimental subject. If it were her, she would definitely start researching the subject immediately. Faced with her own life, who cared about any damn politeness or human rights issues?
“You have a week.” Leon glanced indifferently at Ye Xi, who was lying on the bed swinging her legs as if on vacation, and couldn’t help but feel a sense of frustration. “I hope you can seriously consider this and put the bigger picture first.”
"Prioritizing the greater good? Hah, that's easy for you to say." Ye Xi glanced at him sarcastically, and unsurprisingly, his expression changed. What a load of rubbish! The O virus within her absolutely wouldn't allow her to go so long without injecting the T virus! "I'm sorry, Ye Xi," Leon looked at her earnestly, his expression complex, "I don't agree with this so-called research, but I can't stop or change the higher-ups' actions. You and I both understand that this is in the best interests of the majority."
“Of course I know,” Ye Xi shrugged, curling her lips like a rogue, “but unfortunately, I’m just a selfish little man. What do I care about other people’s lives or whether they have antibodies or not? Don’t give me all that nonsense about collective honor and prioritizing the interests of the majority. Even if the deadline comes and I disagree, I’ll still be dragged around with all sorts of tubes inserted. Leon, you’re admitting it, you’re just buying me time to make yourself feel better.”
Lyon fell silent; Ye Xi's words had undoubtedly struck a nerve. Ye Xi glanced at him lazily, then waved her hand and said slowly, "Alright, alright, instead of agonizing over this, you might as well take me to the medical room to heal. After all, I still have a week to rest."
Silence fell over the room again. Although Ye Xi had acted nonchalantly, only she knew how nervous she was inside. As long as she could get out, as long as she could reach the medical room, she would have a chance to find the T-virus. Generally speaking, medical rooms, due to their similar nature, were located near the experimental chemistry lab, and escaping from a medical room was always easier than from this iron cage.
Besides, An Er is still squatting in the medical room. Considering they've been through thick and thin together—though the chances are slim—he should lend a hand, right? Even if he really intends to just stand by and watch without helping, Ye Xi's intuition tells her that An Er would absolutely not betray her. Well, she doesn't know why she's so sure.
“Of course.” Leon nodded and turned to the side. “Given your special status, we have assigned you a personal doctor so you can stay here for treatment.”
What?! Ye Xi frowned as she looked at the white coat that walked into the room, then at Leon's meaningful expression, and almost lost her temper—damn it, she had forgotten about Claire, the undercover agent. Claire must have told Leon everything about her while they were together, so Leon must know the special significance of the T-virus to her!
“I told you, you won’t cooperate obediently, so don’t even think about stepping out of this door for the next week.” Perhaps because he had been tricked by Ye Xi once, Leon became very cautious. He pointed to the room, indicating that this was Ye Xi’s only place of activity for the past week.
Ye Xi's lips twitched: "Then what about when I need to take care of my physiological needs?"
Lyon calmly pointed to the wall behind Ye Xi's bed. Ye Xi looked closely in the direction he was pointing and discovered that there was a hidden door there, which would be impossible to spot without careful observation. "There's a four-square-meter space behind the door, enough for you to handle. Don't worry, there are no surveillance cameras, but you definitely can't escape either. If you go in and don't come out for thirty minutes... Well, then we can use our imagination."
"Holy crap, is this some kind of twisted thing? What if I'm constipated?!" Ye Xi thought to herself, her mind rife with malice. She directly condemned Lyon and the government's integrity with her eyes, but on the surface, she pretended to helplessly agree, sat up from the bed, walked to the table, gestured for the man in the white coat to sit down, and stretched out her hands in front of him.
Lyon stood by the door for a while, perhaps realizing that Ye Xi was silently seeing him off, then turned and closed the door. Ye Xi listened absentmindedly to the doctor in the white coat reciting precautions in a hypnotic voice, humming in agreement to show she was listening. She watched him apply the medicine with droopy eyes and casually asked, "Hey, doctor, An'er, I mean, the unlucky guy who came with me, how's he?"
"Him? It's nothing. His wound was treated promptly. He's just too tired and his physical and mental energy have been depleted. He's still dizzy," the doctor in the white coat replied casually.
"Oh," Ye Xi replied lazily, her drooping eyelids concealing her slightly deep gaze. Fainted? Someone as skilled as An Er, even more impressive than her, would faint? Ye Xi simply didn't believe it, so she continued tentatively, "Tsk, he's lucky he dragged me into this. He actually ran off with some government official. I should have abandoned him."
"He was very lucky. If he had been any later, it would have been difficult. But if he hadn't come with you, we wouldn't have given him anesthesia and brought him in." The doctor in the white coat hummed a few times, tied a knot in the bandage on Ye Xi's hand, and then took out a syringe. "We need to draw blood. Please cooperate."
"Tch, they say it's for a rest, but they just can't resist using her for experiments, right? They just haven't moved her directly to the lab yet." Ye Xi thought with disgust, gesturing towards the lab coat. "Go ahead and try, I'll admire you if you can find something different from normal humans. Wesker couldn't find anything, what do you expect to find?" Unconsciously, Ye Xi elevated Wesker's omnipotent status even further. At least Wesker would just do experiments if he wanted to, unlike these hypocritical and pretentious people.
After seeing the doctor in the white coat out, Ye Xi circled the small, unmonitored four-square-meter space before returning to her bed. According to what the doctor in the white coat had said, An Er had been lured down as bait after being drugged, and the gunshot earlier was likely an accidental discharge during his struggle. However, Ye Xi believed that someone like An Er, who always kept his nerves on edge, wouldn't allow himself to be unconscious for so long—because Ye Xi herself was that kind of person—so he was definitely looking for a chance to escape.
What? You mean find a chance to save her? Don't be ridiculous, how long have they known each other? Ye Xi doesn't believe he possesses some kind of Mary Sue-esque all-powerful seduction system that would make An Er risk his life to snatch someone from this complex, high-level government base. Besides, given his current circumstances and personality, he would never allow himself to save her.
Tsk, thinking about it this way makes it seem like she knows him quite well… Ye Xi pouted, turned over, and changed her lying position. It was probably afternoon now. She wasn't very sleepy, but she couldn't let the people on the other end of the monitor see that she was anxiously thinking about escaping, so she could only lie in bed and pretend to be dead.
Being locked in a small room is no fun. After mechanically finishing her dinner while pretending to cooperate, Ye Xi finally realized that she was not suited to this kind of surveillance life without freedom. It would have been much more pleasant to just be injected with drugs and dragged to the lab! Her desire for the T-virus made Ye Xi lose her patience, but she had to suppress herself, which made her already irritable even more irritable.
"I've become like this in just half a day. What will I be like in a week?" Ye Xi frowned, unable to help but worry about her future.
