☆ Rescuing people, a destined encounter

☆ Rescuing people, a destined encounter

Years later, when Ye Xi recalled that rainy day, she found herself getting out of the car and slapping her forehead. If she hadn't done that, perhaps everything would be different now…? But that's often how fate works. No matter how much you regret or miss it, you never know what will happen next, and you can never guess the taste of the next chocolate unless it's written on the wrapper.

However, life is never marked by a single point, which is why there are countless new beginnings.

Ye Xi could still clearly remember how heavy the rain was; the only sound in the world was the rushing water. She got out of the carriage, a Miao knife in her hand. Large raindrops pelted her face, blurring her vision. She approached the man lying on the road slowly and cautiously, frowning at his mud-covered blond hair, and poked his body with the knife…

The next second, with a clang, the Miao sword fell to the ground, splashing water. Her wet black hair lay scattered on the ground, and the pressure on her neck made her stare at him in disbelief.

That was a destined encounter.

Dark eyes met blue eyes, and the cold, ruthless gaze sent a shiver down Ye Xi's spine—why did it feel so familiar?! In a daze, the grip on her neck loosened, and the man who had pinned her down like a beast a second ago swayed and fell to the ground, his azure eyes now filled with chilling coldness. If it weren't for the lingering pain in her neck, Ye Xi would never have believed that this severely injured man could move so swiftly and without restraint.

Ye Xi grabbed the knife beside her and quickly stood up, staring warily at the man lying on the ground, panting heavily. His appearance was quite ordinary yet angular, with blond hair and blue eyes—the kind of person you'd easily lose in a crowd. But Ye Xi wouldn't let her guard down because of that. She had clearly seen the sharp killing intent in his eyes just moments before, and coupled with his decisive and ruthless skills and that seemingly innate, terrifying aura, even with the gash on his body that ran from his left shoulder to his right waist—a gash that almost severed him—Ye Xi would never consider him an easy target.

"Who are you?" Ye Xi heard her own slightly hoarse voice ring out.

Looking at Ye Xi's wary and cold expression, the blue eyes slowly closed. He slightly opened his mouth, and his cold voice, like his eyes, was devoid of any emotion: "What's it to you?"

This kind of behavior is really easy to provoke anger, especially since Ye Xi was just caught off guard by him grabbing her by the neck. Yes, caught off guard! What the hell? I finally got out of the car to help someone out of kindness, and it turns out it was just a brain fart and a hand tantrum?! What "What's it to you?" Well, it is to my business! Who told you to block my way and sleep on the ground like that? You bastard, I'm going to give you a good thrashing today! Ye Xi, who was already in a bad mood, suddenly exploded when she heard the man's familiar voice and tone. Without thinking about the awkward feeling anymore, she raised her eyebrows and pulled his collar up rather unkindly.

"What are you doing?!" The man was startled. Before he could take two steps, he broke free from Ye Xi's clutches and stood straight in front of her with some difficulty. A hint of anger and disbelief flashed in his cold and ruthless eyes, but it was only for a moment. Ye Xi was not even sure if he had seen those two contradictory things.

"Can't you tell what I'm doing?" Ye Xi said with a cocky grin, arms crossed. "I can do whatever I want with men, it's none of your business. Whether you're willing or not today, I'm in charge." Ye Xi raised her chin slightly, looking like she was asking for a beating. Her long-maintained ice queen mode was easily broken in front of this arrogant and pretentious iceberg man. Now she looked more like a wicked woman who had forcibly taken an innocent man.

However, this man seemed to have a strong mental fortitude. Seeing Ye Xi being so unreasonable, he maintained his stiff face, snorted coldly, and turned to leave. Ye Xi was stunned. Just now... it seemed she had been despised and ignored by this man, hadn't she? She looked at the man's tall, slender figure in his leather jacket. Although his injuries were severe, with drops of bright red blood flowing onto the ground, he walked steadily forward as if he felt no pain.

Seeing this, and noticing his somewhat dirty blond hair, Ye Xi's face darkened. She quickened her pace to catch up and said in a cold, almost commanding tone, "Come with me, I'll treat you."

The man was completely ungrateful; he didn't even glance at Ye Xi and continued walking. Ye Xi was furious. If she had known that this rare act of kindness and self-sacrifice would end like this, she would never have done it.

"Alright, let's try another way." Ye Xi stopped and asked coldly, "Are you a lackey of Umbrella, or a lackey of that so-called Salvation Government?"

The man finally stopped. He turned and glanced at Ye Xi, who stood rooted to the spot, her eyes filled with a dark glint. A strange light flickered in his azure eyes. Ye Xi froze again. This familiar sense of danger made her uneasy, yet for some reason, it also filled her with a secret sense of anticipation.

"Hmph, lackey? Not even that." He said with a hint of contempt, his tone and innate air of superiority making Ye Xi frown. When she came to her senses, she realized he was already walking away. Tsk, well, then she can't blame her for being impolite. Ye Xi lowered her body slightly. She didn't want to think too much, and she didn't want to know why she just didn't want this stranger to leave so badly injured. She felt that if she thought about it too much, she would regret it deeply.

Ye Xi, slightly lowered, charged forward like an arrow. The man was no ordinary person; realizing Ye Xi's speed far surpassed that of a normal person, he immediately dodged. However, his injuries and anemia made his movements somewhat unsteady, and his physical reaction speed could hardly keep up with his mental processing speed. The man who barely dodged Ye Xi's charge was then struck hard on his wound by Ye Xi's Miao sword, which she used as a stick. He groaned and fell down somewhat unwillingly, but Ye Xi reached out and caught him.

Ye Xi's seemingly fierce charge was actually a feint; her main goal was simply to knock him unconscious. The man realized this when he dodged Ye Xi's attack, but unfortunately, compared to Ye Xi, who was unharmed and could immediately reach full strength, he was still at a disadvantage. Therefore, Ye Xi easily and forcibly brought this man into the car.

Ye Xi, completely oblivious to her female identity, calmly and swiftly tore off his clothes, clicking her tongue a few times at the sight of the bloody wound. She wondered who this poor guy had offended to be slashed like this. "Oh dear, could it be a heartbreak?" Ye Xi nodded, confidently at the deep wound. But judging from this jerk's arrogant and obnoxious attitude, even if it wasn't a heartbreak, he'd still be relentlessly pursued by whoever angered him.

Ye Xi recalled the guy's bad temper and that smug smirk from earlier. Even though it was the first time she had met him, she couldn't help but get annoyed—this guy was just too ungrateful.

Ye Xi quickly treated the wound and continued driving to find a pharmacy. Since a single T-virus could handle any injury or illness, Ye Xi obviously couldn't carry medical supplies with her. She could only rely on her memory to tear clean clothes into bandages and wrap them around the wound. However, looking at how deep and wide the wound was, it didn't seem like it was cut with a sharp blade, but rather like… the claws of a wild animal tearing it open? Ye Xi shuddered—how big would those claws have to be to become like this? Could it be a mutated T-virus? But that didn't seem right. Ye Xi glanced at the wound again; it had no color, none of the red that comes with a T-virus infection…

Oh well, never mind, let's find a pharmacy or emergency medical station first. Ye Xi put those annoying questions out of her mind. She couldn't be bothered to think about these weird things. Not having to scheme against that so-called O virus, Wesker, made her feel much more relaxed. After enduring for more than two years, who wanted to go back to those days when she had to think twice about whether Wesker would suspect her no matter what she did?

Ye Xi muttered to herself, glancing again at the man leaning against the back seat in the rearview mirror. Unexpectedly, she met a pair of deep and sharp blue eyes. Ye Xi, who already suffered from a fear of motor vehicles, was also frightened by being caught peeping (?). Her hand trembled and her foot pushed hard, and the car accelerated and crashed into the guardrail next to the highway!

Ye Xi froze. In that critical moment, a faint smell of blood mingled with the moist fragrance of rainwater and wafted into her nose. Suddenly, a large, cold, rough but long and powerful hand covered her small, stiff hand gripping the steering wheel. With a slight force, it guided her hand to turn the steering wheel, swerving the car back onto the right track at the last second.

"Hey, watch where you're going." A deep, magnetic voice rang in Ye Xi's ear as she remained dazed. Ye Xi stared blankly at her hand, which was still tightly gripped by him, and felt the cold breath on her ear. She finally snapped out of her daze and stammered, "I...I know..." But then, as if realizing something was off, her tone softened, and she immediately puffed out her chest and added, "Hmph, it's already pretty good that you haven't broken anything after all this time!"

Wait, something feels even more off! Ye Xi frowned, feeling increasingly embarrassed the more she spoke, so she simply stopped talking and looked away with a slightly flushed face.

Girl, don't you think you're being arrogant? (picking nose)

"Watch where you're going." The man only released his grip after confirming that Ye Xi had come to her senses. Seeing that Ye Xi was unusually aloof, he paused, then used both hands to turn Ye Xi's head away so that it faced the road. His originally cold voice now contained a hint of amusement that even he didn't notice. Unfortunately, Ye Xi, enraged and embarrassed, didn't pay any attention to such details.

"I know!" She glared fiercely at the man who leaned closer. "Go back to your seat and sit quietly and don't bother your sister!"

It felt incredibly awkward for a seemingly innocent young woman in her early twenties to address a mature man who looked to be in his late thirties or even forties as "older sister." The man's slightly smiling demeanor vanished like a mirage. He moved coldly from the back seat to the passenger seat, ignoring Ye Xi's warning glances, and closed his eyes.

This guy is really… Ye Xi inwardly facepalmed. Why did she increasingly feel that saving him was a mistake? And, after being forcibly taken away by her, wouldn't he resist or even get angry once he woke up? Ye Xi glanced at his sharply defined profile out of the corner of her eye; his always expressionless, cold, and indifferent demeanor unconsciously reminded Ye Xi of Wesker…

"Holy crap, Ye Xi, what are you thinking?!" Ye Xi was startled by her own thoughts and almost bumped into the railing again, but thankfully she managed to steady herself this time. Looking at his disheveled state, how could he possibly be the all-powerful Wesker? Ye Xi reassured herself, that guy would never allow himself to become like this. Besides, they don't look alike at all. Wesker, with his eerily red eyes, would even die wearing sunglasses and looking cool, while this guy… his eye color is definitely genuinely without colored contacts. Wesker would never come down to earth and be so down-to-earth… Ugh, what am I thinking?!

"Let's get to know each other. My name is Ye Xi. Um, what's yours?" Not wanting to dwell on it any longer, Ye Xi awkwardly introduced herself. But seeing that the man had his eyes closed and didn't react at all, as if he hadn't heard what Ye Xi said, Ye Xi's lips twitched—why did she feel more and more like a clown?

Ye Xi sighed. This wasn't like the old you. Ye Xi shook her head. It seemed that a poker face suited her better. Thinking this, she fell silent, glancing at the constantly moving windshield wipers out of the corner of her eye, and quietly drove the car.

"An'er, An'er Potter." After an unknown amount of time, a cold, deep voice suddenly rang out.

Ye Xi looked at the man, who still had his eyes closed, with some surprise. She hadn't expected him to answer her question; she thought he would pretend not to know. After silently repeating his name, Ye Xi suddenly asked:

Are you related to Harry Potter in any way?

"..."

Author's Note: Tsk, it's obvious who that guy is, right? (picking nose) Actually, in some ways, Ye Xi and Uncle Wei do have things in common, like emotional intelligence, etc. (picking nose, rolling around and acting cute, meow~)
