☆ Revenge, a scheme within a scheme

☆ Revenge, a scheme within a scheme

The monitoring room was silent. Everyone held their breath, staring intently at the ground, trying to minimize their presence, afraid of overhearing something they shouldn't and being silenced. But running out now was impractical, so they could only try to keep their breathing quiet and tense their backs.

On the screen, Ye Xi seemed to see the situation in the monitoring hall. Seeing the others' panicked and embarrassed state filled her with pleasure. She glanced at Wesker, who still wore that slightly stiff expression, as if everything was in his grasp, which irritated Ye Xi again. She hated this attitude; she had hated it ever since he impersonated the so-called O virus. This indifferent apathy towards everything infuriated Ye Xi. "You know, Wesker, I've been waiting for this day for a long time. Every time I talk to you, it makes me feel incredibly disgusted!"

Anger made Ye Xi roar uncontrollably. She had been waiting for this day for nearly two and a half years, but all she got was Wesker's expressionless face. She thought, she thought, that she could finally make this unparalleled big boss's emotions fluctuate! But Wesker, this important figure, didn't buy it. His excessive calmness made Ye Xi feel more like a failed clown performing a one-man show, while Wesker, as the audience, didn't cooperate at all—his overly rational calmness was really annoying.

After a few minutes of silence, Wesker finally spoke, "When did you find out?" Indeed, Ye Xi's disguise was too perfect, making it almost impossible for Wesker to find any moment of abnormality. Ye Xi's attitude towards the "O virus" was always complicated. On the one hand, she relied on the help and sense of security that the "O virus" gave her; on the other hand, she mostly disagreed with the "O virus's" views, so cold wars often occurred. However, her dependence made all the unpleasantness disappear after a few days.

Clearly, Wesker's question made Ye Xi feel a little better, after all, even a genius like him hadn't seen through her disguise. "Soon, in the fifth month after you appeared as the O virus." Ye Xi's tone was somewhat cheerful, obviously her mood had improved again.

“Oh? That’s quick…” Wesker said cryptically, but Ye Xi, caught up in her smugness, didn’t notice Wesker’s odd behavior and continued, “You’ve made a huge mistake, genius Wesker. According to you, the ‘O virus’ contacts me through my brain nerves, but why can it communicate with me through brain nerves but not know what I’m thinking? It’s not that your brain nerves are the so-called transmission medium, but rather that the chip you implanted in my cheek is causing this!”

Ye Xi pointed to the numbers on her cheek, a mocking look on her face: "So you can only know what I'm saying when I speak with my vocal cords, right? And today's incredibly advanced science and technology provides you with the means to monitor me, allowing you to know what I'm doing at all times. Your plan was perfect, but alas, because of a small flaw, you've lost everything. You were too eager for the O virus in my body to grow, for me to become addicted to the T virus, for me to be close to hordes of zombies. Your intentions were too obvious, which will only bring bad consequences, my good partner."

"In other words, you came here voluntarily," Wesker asserted.

“That’s right, I’ve been waiting and preparing almost every day. My goal is simple: revenge. The only problem is I didn’t know when that day would come. I didn’t expect it to arrive so soon—after I had made all the preparations…” Ye Xi grinned, looking every bit like a cunning and ruthless villain, the dark glint in her eyes greatly pleasing Wesker. He didn’t need a flawless, pure white test subject; he wanted a dazzling obsidian. Although Ye Xi’s actions today were somewhat expected, it didn’t hinder his progress toward his ultimate goal.

"All preparations?" As Ye Xi had expected, Wesker was unaware of her methods. She snorted coldly and said slowly, "You've been monitoring me for so long; if you're not an idiot, you should know that satellites can't capture images through an object, and you couldn't possibly see me, right? That's why you kept leading me towards the desert. It took me a long time to figure that out. So, do you really think that with my high intelligence and skill, inside the metal of an ambulance, with all the equipment in place, it would take several hours to create an antibody that I've only seen once but know by heart?"

That's right, Ye Xi was referring to the time she made the antibody for Carlos. Actually, she had already made the antibody and the fake one she gave to LJ. The remaining hours were spent making final preparations for this plan. "Have you ever heard of hiding poison between your teeth?" Ye Xi asked herself with a faint smile. "Getting injured here was inevitable, being stripped naked was also inevitable. To hide it well, I went to great lengths to compress and purify it. Don't forget we've been together for three years. Even if you hide it well, you still know the basics. I used your aversion to the weak, deliberately feigning weakness to make you stop monitoring me. For that, I lay on the ground pretending to be pitiful for a whole week to make sure you hadn't turned on that damn monitor."

Ye Xi paused for a moment before continuing, "I think with your intelligence, you definitely know by now." Maintaining her faint smile, Ye Xi slowly raised her right hand and placed it on the gauze over her right eye. Then, with a sudden pull, her beautiful black pupils appeared before everyone. "The T-virus, bite through that tiny T-virus particle hidden between your teeth. The compressed and purified T-virus is truly formidable; that tormenting little devil tormented me all night before finally calming down a bit."

Seemingly recalling that night, Ye Xi pursed her lips. It was painful, but to get rid of that damned Wesker, she endured it all. That's Ye Xi for you; she'd sacrifice herself to achieve her goals, let alone others in dangerous situations.

“If I were as weak as you imagine, I wouldn’t be standing here with a gun.” With that, Ye Xi slammed a gun down. “My mastery of my abilities is far better than you realize; otherwise, all my hard training behind your back would be wasted.” Indeed, Ye Xi never neglected her ability training, of course, only when Wesker couldn’t see her. The compressed and purified T-virus made it easier for her to enter Raccoon City to fight the Lickers, and the process wasn’t as painful as when she rescuing Claire’s team in the desert. So she easily planted plants in various corners of the electric grid, and incidentally stole some things, including guns.

As for the blood spitting out earlier, it was actually Ye Xi pointing a gun at those five men, demanding they report to their superior as she instructed. Their superior, hearing the urgency of the situation, would definitely go to Wesker. After all, her plan only had value if Wesker appeared. She wanted to show Wesker that no matter how powerful he was, Ye Xi, the young lady, would definitely find a way to escape from him. Don't think that sacrificing so much for this almost childish motive is not worth it; in Ye Xi's eyes, it's absolutely worth it, worth the three round-trip tickets. Wesker is proud to the point of arrogance, Ye Xi is proud to the point of haughtiness. Since he has trampled on her dignity so blatantly, she will naturally play with his dignity in return, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Ye Xi's injury is physical, but Wesker's injury is psychological. Someone as powerful and arrogant as him must suffer serious internal injuries from being played like this.

Wesker, who had been listening the whole time, finally spoke. He was clearly furious after learning the truth, and his already deep, hoarse voice became even colder: "You think you can just run away like this?"

"Why not?" Ye Xi smiled innocently. As mentioned before, she had also stolen some things, including a gun and the T-virus. "I don't want you following me anymore, partner. Let's break up, forced, though it'll hurt a bit..." Ye Xi pulled a dagger from her wide sleeve and, without hesitation, swiftly and decisively scraped off the piece of skin with the black numbers on her cheek, instantly turning her face into a bloody mess. The people in the hall shuddered, touching their own faces, not even imagining how painful it must have been, yet she wore a chilling smile, not even blinking. Then, Ye Xi raised her foot and stomped hard on the bloody mess of skin, a crisp "crack" sound, the chip completely destroyed.

Ye Xi's ruthlessness made Wesker nod slightly in approval. He knew how afraid Ye Xi was of pain, yet she wasn't even flinching, solely to completely remove the chip. Ye Xi took out a syringe from her purse again and injected the liquid into her arm. At this moment, a hint of relief finally appeared on her usually calm face, and the bloody wound healed rapidly at a visible speed.

With a loud bang, just as her wounds were healing, the rooftop door was smashed open by dozens of fully armed men. However, a split second before they could grab Ye Xi, a thick branch wrapped around her waist, pulling her almost instantly into the night and disappearing from everyone's sight.

"...Sir, sir, should we...pursue them?" the security chief stammered, able to imagine how badly his short-tempered superior was behaving. Wesker didn't say a word, turning to walk towards the only door in the hall. At the same time, that closed door suddenly opened, and dozens of armed soldiers entered, surrounding everyone except Wesker.

"Sir, what are you doing...!" the security chief asked in a shrill voice, somewhat surprised. He had been by Wesker's side the whole time, so he was absolutely certain that Wesker hadn't used the intercom to order these people in this hall... So... Wesker had also stopped him from having someone capture Subject 01 on the roof of the Puppet Building... Could it be! Before the security chief could say anything, Wesker walked out without looking back, leaving only his cold, indifferent coat and the slowly closing iron door. After dozens of gunshots, silence followed.

This was a truth Ye Xi could never have imagined; it was all a scheme within a scheme! Wesker had long anticipated Ye Xi's escape, even meticulously planning her escape route! Wesker knew Ye Xi too well, yet she always managed to surprise him with unexpected delights. For example, this time, she had known his identity for over two years yet pretended to know nothing; Wesker had thought it would only be a year at most. Yes, you read that right, everything was within Wesker's calculations, including Ye Xi discovering his identity.

So, to put it bluntly, it was all just a pre-arranged play by Wesker. As for the dozen or so staff members in the monitoring hall, they were like pawns, cannon fodder, indifferent to any emotional issues. No matter who was on duty, they would all die on the day Ye Xi escaped—Wesker wouldn't leave anyone behind who knew even the slightest secret of his. Since he had already anticipated Ye Xi's general escape method, he naturally had to prepare in advance to eliminate any potential trouble.

Did Ye Xi know that her revenge plan, which she had been scheming for nearly three years, was in the end just a scheme within a scheme by Wesker, and that her successful escape was only due to Wesker's indulgence?

Wesker walked back to his office, sat in the huge leather chair for a few minutes in silence, and slowly moved his hand to the hidden button on the armrest of the chair. A transparent panel the size of a computer screen rose from a hidden groove in the desk, clearly displaying the coordinates and terrain, with small red dots moving continuously.

"Ye Xi, do you really think that chip is for monitoring you?" Wesker, chin resting on one hand, curled into a dangerous, meaningful smile. As cautious as Wesker was, he would never place the chip in such an obvious place, even though he knew Ye Xi would find it difficult to harm him. So, from the very first time he captured Ye Xi, Wesker had already considered this step, giving Ye Xi the wrong impression. When Ye Xi actually removed the chip, which was only used for precise imaging, and then relaxed, that would be the true beginning of his plan.

Author's Note: So Ye Xi has a hard time turning the tables on Uncle Wei (picking nose). So her life will just have to continue to be miserable (picking nose). The poor kid doesn't know anything and still thinks she really tricked Uncle Wei. Maybe Uncle Wei's love-hate buddy C (Chris) will appear in the next chapter. So please leave a comment since I'm faster this time. Leaving a comment won't make you pregnant~ =3=
