☆、Being carried out, undercurrents are surging
Ye Xi frowned as she treated An Er's wounds. It was the final stage, and although it was painful to watch, Ye Xi gritted her teeth and continued to thread the needle through the flesh with the thread. Her attention was completely focused on the work at hand, so Ye Xi couldn't be sure if An Er, whose body was stiff and taut, was frowning like her, nor could she be sure if the zombies outside were about to breach the last line of defense.
Adhering to the principle that a short pain is better than a long one, Ye Xi stitched up quickly, but she still couldn't outpace the movements of the zombie outside the door. She had only stitched up a little more than half of it when, with a "bang," the door slammed against the wall. The low growl was so clear, and the stench of the corpse intensified. Ye Xi involuntarily stiffened, her hand paused, and that damned impulse surged up from the bottom of her heart again.
"Continue." An'er breathed heavily, instructing Ye Xi not to stop, while quickly reaching into the inner pocket of his jacket, which was lying to the side, and pulling out a pistol. Without any hesitation, he pointed it at the zombies rushing in and fired.
After a brief moment of surprise, Ye Xi bit her lip, using the taste of blood to bring herself back to her senses. Suppressing the turmoil in her heart and the slight trembling of her hands from excitement, she quickened her pace. Unable to treat the wound perfectly within a few dozen seconds, Ye Xi hastily finished, and just then, An Er's pistol ran out of bullets.
"Jump out the window! I hope you can find me a nice car!" Ye Xi roughly pulled him up, grabbed her jacket and threw it into his arms. "Give me these little sweethearts, I'll be right there—if you have any damn conscience left and know what I'm going to say later." As she spoke, Ye Xi licked her lips, ignoring An Er's expression, and shoved him hard.
One push, and he didn't budge. Ye Xi frowned, looking at the pale-faced (anemic) patient with facial paralysis. She couldn't believe that despite his serious injuries, this kid still had such good stamina; Ye Xi had pushed him so hard, yet he hadn't moved an inch. "You think I need a woman to protect me?" he scoffed disdainfully.
...Damn it, this isn't the time for you to be sexist, you arrogant brat! "Patients should behave!" Ye Xi put her hands on her hips, looking like a shrew.
"You're not a doctor," someone said with a cold glance.
"...Fine, then treat me like a man. In the name of a man, I demand that you get out of here right now, immediately!"
This time, someone completely ignored Ye Xi, stepped forward, and swiftly and ruthlessly slashed at a zombie's neck with a knife-like motion. The moment it fell, the zombie turned around and stepped forward again, stomping on its head. With a crisp "crack" sound, another sharp attack followed, and with a quick side kick, another zombie's neck snapped.
This guy is just too... Before she could even complain, the impulse in her heart overwhelmed her remaining rationality like a tidal wave. Ye Xi's eyes darkened, and she quickly wrapped the excess surgical sutures around her hands and swiftly looped them around the neck of the zombie that lunged at her. She took a step forward and made a graceful turn, the congealed blood staining the back of her collar. With a muffled "thud," the zombie's head hit the ground.
Ye Xi didn't pause. A hint of madness flashed in her icy black eyes. With a sharp jerk, she gripped the thin thread and the soft, flimsy thread cracked as it sliced through the air like a blade. It quickly wrapped around the forehead of the next target. With a slight tightening of her grip, the head was easily sliced in two like a loaf of bread. The crimson and white flesh of the brain slowly fell out, rolled to the side, and was crushed under An Er's foot as he moved.
He raised an eyebrow and turned to look at Ye Xi. An Er had already moved to the window while fighting, but Ye Xi, who was creating a nauseating mess of blood, showed no sign of leaving. Instead, she was getting closer and closer to the center of the zombie horde, her movements becoming increasingly... frantic! He frowned and immediately rushed forward, casually knocking down a few zombies blocking his path, preparing to forcibly take her away. Unfortunately, the moment his hand approached her, a sharp, thin thread wrapped around his arm!
An'er's sensitivity to danger made him instinctively grab one end of the thin thread. The next second, the thread tightened, and his palms and arms were cut and bleeding! If he hadn't grabbed the seemingly soft and harmless thread in time, his arm would probably have been cut into many pieces.
Ye Xi's eyes flickered as she stared blankly at An Er's cold face, seemingly unable to believe what she had done. Taking advantage of Ye Xi's dazed state, An Er used her uninjured hand to wrap around her waist, picked her up, hoisted her onto his shoulder, and rushed to the window before jumping out.
The canopy provided good cushioning for An'er, allowing him to land upright with Ye Xi on his back after the second jump. Ye Xi finally realized she was being carried like a burden on his shoulder and struggled, yelling, "Damn it, put me down! I can run by myself!"
"Shut up." An Er slapped Ye Xi's butt. "Can you guarantee you won't pounce on her indiscriminately?" He mocked, and Ye Xi froze.
"Damn it!" Ye Xi was seething with anger, but what he said was true. She really couldn't guarantee that she wouldn't pounce on him indiscriminately, and now was not the time to make a scene, so Ye Xi obediently shut her mouth and gave up struggling.
After being carried for a short while, An'er seemed to have found a car. He easily opened the driver's side door, threw Ye Xizhen inside like a bundle, then pushed her into the passenger seat. He started the car in no time and drove off smoothly. His driving skills were far superior to Ye Xizhen's, who drove like a madwoman.
Ye Xi pouted, rolled her eyes at him, and turned to look out the window. Only then did she feel a sharp pain in her left hand. Looking down, she couldn't help but twitch her lips—one end of the thin thread was deeply embedded in her flesh, her entire left hand covered in blood. Perhaps she hadn't felt it earlier because she was too excited, but now that she had calmed down, she felt the excruciating pain. Fortunately, no bones were broken; otherwise, she would have remained disabled until she found the zombie and secretly drew blood.
Damn it, they didn't draw blood just now! That was a golden opportunity! Ye Xi, you should have just stood there and let that zombie little devil bite you before you made a move! Waiting for the next zombie encounter, when the hell would that be?! The more she thought about it, the more panicked she became. Ye Xi, with a miserable face, pulled on the thin thread with her right hand, hoping to find the other end, but encountered resistance. As if realizing something, she looked along the thread and saw someone's right arm that was in even worse shape than hers. Ye Xi only had a hand injury, but An Er's entire hand and arm were covered in blood. Although it was resting calmly on the steering wheel, it looked extremely pitiful.
Ye Xi gave a stiff smile, her gaze following her arm upwards, unfortunately meeting his icy blue eyes. Realizing he was staring coldly at her, Ye Xi belatedly realized that she had seemingly aggravated his wound while pulling the thin thread. She immediately turned her head awkwardly to look out the window, blurting out, "Oh, the weather's so nice today!"
It was raining continuously outside the window.
"Hmph." This cold snort completely froze Ye Xi's stiff smile. Okay, was she some kind of walking embodiment of bad luck? Ye Xi sighed, glancing at An Er's crookedly stitched wound that wasn't even bandaged, then immediately averting her eyes—why did she get the feeling that An Er hadn't properly treated her old wounds and had gotten new ones? Was this guy out in the Siberian high-altitude winds just plotting to strangle her...?
The atmosphere inside the car instantly became tense. The car smoothly entered the highway, and before long, Ye Xi, who was struggling with how to get the thread out without An Er noticing, felt the car stop. She turned to look at An Er in confusion, just in time to see him quickly and skillfully unwind the thin thread embedded in his right hand, holding one end of the thread in one hand and grabbing Ye Xi's left arm with the other, preparing to roughly unwind it in the same way.
"Wait...wait!" Ye Xi wasn't like An Er, who wasn't afraid of pain. With his method, it would be strange if she didn't suffer excruciating pain. An Er stared coldly into Ye Xi's eyes, and that familiar feeling washed over her again. Just as Ye Xi was stunned, An Er quickly moved around the first circle, but this time his movements were much gentler.
Ye Xi stared blankly at An Er's increasingly gentle movements, a strange feeling welling up inside her. It wasn't until An Er treated her wound with disinfectant and bandages that he had taken away sometime earlier that Ye Xi came back to her senses. Then, a question suddenly popped into her mind—how did he know… I'm afraid of pain? We'd only just met, hadn't we?
She frowned slightly, asked nothing, and snatched the disinfectant and bandages, saying casually, "You can't use one hand, I'll do it." Then she roughly pulled An'er's right arm and expertly bandaged it, also wrapping the large wound on his chest with bandages as well.
An'er put his jacket back on and focused his gaze on the endless highway ahead. He wasn't much of a talker to begin with, and Ye Xi suddenly felt awkward and pointless trying to talk to him, so the atmosphere in the car became tense again. Ye Xi, propping her head up and looking at the dull scenery outside the window, relaxed. Her eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and her consciousness became increasingly blurred. In a daze, she seemed to hear a helpless sigh beside her ear.
She had actually fallen asleep. An'er glanced at Ye Xi, who was nodding incessantly. The agitation of the O virus within her made her already pale face even paler and more fragile. But for some special reason, he deeply understood how ruthless this seemingly harmless girl was in essence.
Looking at Ye Xi, who now seemed almost completely unguarded, An Er frowned, seemingly displeased with Ye Xi's lack of vigilance. But then, recalling what had happened a week ago, the "accident" that had turned him into this, he suddenly smiled contemptuously, his chilling blue eyes turning deep and unfathomable.
An Er freed one hand to tap Ye Xi's head, which was nodding incessantly, and pressed her against the back of the seat to prevent her from swaying around and bothering him. Then he turned his head, ready to concentrate on driving, when his shoulder sank again. Ye Xi had very consciously slid off the back of the seat and rested her head on his shoulder!
An'er, being watched, paused, clearly hesitating whether he should throw her behind the car or give her a sharp rap to shut her drooling mouth and wake her up. To his surprise, however, he did nothing. Okay, he'd let her off the hook for now.
Ye Xi felt that she had slept very soundly, especially since she dreamed of one cute little zombie after another with tiny wings running towards her and throwing themselves into her arms. Oh my, those zombies with missing arms and eyes looked so delicious that she could feel her mouth watering.
Then, a sharp pain shot through her forehead, and all the little zombies flew away, revealing An Er's enlarged, cold face. For some reason, Ye Xi was completely immune to his intense aura. Rubbing her forehead, she was suffering from low blood sugar—in short, her morning grumpiness was about to explode: "Damn it, is he going through menopause?! The zombies I was about to eat have all flown away!"
An Er was enveloped in murderous intent. He grabbed Ye Xi's head with one hand and twisted it backward forcefully. With a "crack," Ye Xi was certain that her neck would have been broken if her upper body hadn't immediately followed suit. "Damn it..." Ye Xi's cursing stopped abruptly when she saw the scene before her, and her mind instantly cleared.
"How...how did they get here?" Ye Xi's usually irritable voice was now filled with vigilance and seriousness. She lowered her voice and asked quietly. The rain had stopped, but the day was coming to an end. Although it was pitch black all around, thanks to her excellent night vision, and more importantly, the bright lights in the distance, she could clearly see the area surrounded by the steel wall. Fortunately, An Er had noticed in time and had already hidden the car in the dense grass by the roadside; otherwise, they would have been caught long ago.
"Who knows how those cowards in the government struggle?" An'er's voice was still cold, but this time it was more of a contempt and disdain.
Yes, right in front of them was a government base. As for how they could tell, anyone with eyes could see the huge sign on the wall! But how could they suddenly encounter a government base? She had never encountered one before. Could it be…? Ye Xi couldn't help but look at An Er's grim expression and frowned.
Author's Note: I'm really not suited to writing romance novels; I just can't help but mess up my writing, right?! (Bumping into a wall) I definitely have a talent for creating characters that break down! OJZ It's getting cold, everyone please keep warm and don't get sick. Tsk, it's so cold I don't even want to type anymore. (picking nose)
