☆, Chasing, are you kidding me?
The tingling sensation on his neck sent a jolt through An'er. A peculiar feeling coursing through his body made it impossible for him to push Ye Xi away from his neck. It felt like an eternity—though at most half a minute had passed—Ye Xi's body went limp, her arms around An'er's neck slipped down, and she slowly raised her head, licking the blood from her lips. She opened her mouth slightly, as if to say something, but suddenly collapsed into An'er's arms. In her blurry vision, she seemed to see a pair of eyes glowing with a blood-red light…
"It was resolved so easily..." An'er murmured cryptically, one arm around Ye Xi's soft body, the other stroking the bite wound on his neck, which was slowly healing. A strange smile crept across his face as he held the unconscious Ye Xi tighter, took a step, and turned to look contemptuously at the mercenaries who were still stunned by what had just happened, his blood-red eyes gleaming with a chilling light...
Ye Xi woke up to the noise and jolts. She groaned, clutching her throbbing head, trying to find a more comfortable position, but the moment she moved, a violent jolt sent her head slamming into a hard metal object. "WHAT THE FUCK!" a curse instantly escaped Ye Xi's lips. "What the hell?!"
"Awake?" The familiar, cold voice brought Ye Xi back to her senses. She turned her head to look, and although his face seemed to be covered in dust and gunpowder, Ye Xi was certain, as long as she wasn't blind, that the man sitting next to her, holding the steering wheel, was An Er!
"What…" Ye Xi rubbed her head, tightening her seatbelt at the same time. Okay, it seems I escaped? I remember… I was in Central Park, then I saw An Er, then I was surrounded, and then… what was it again? Did An Er, that awesome guy, suddenly go into overdrive and lead me on a prison break? Wait, something seems off… Ye Xi frowned, two red lights flashed through her mind, and a strange feeling suddenly welled up inside her, forcing her to stare intently at An Er's… neck!
"You..." Ye Xi blurted out a word unconsciously, but due to the sudden turn, she hit the car window, and the words that came out involuntarily turned into a fierce shout: "Can't you drive a little more steadily?! You're even worse than me..."
Before she could finish speaking, a loud explosion came from beside Ye Xi, accompanied by a violent shaking. Ye Xi finally snapped out of her daze. Her eyes sharpened, and rubbing her slightly ringing ears, she turned around. Through the mud-covered rear window, Ye Xi could vaguely see a large group of enormous creatures following behind the car!
"What the hell have you done to attract so much hatred..." Ye Xi asked, her lips twitching. God behold, she desperately hoped she was hallucinating or seeing things, and that what she saw wasn't some kind of tank. Sadly, God had long since abandoned this world.
Ye Xi herself didn't realize that a hint of nervousness had crept into her gaze as she looked at An Er. An Er glanced at her coldly, his deep blue eyes devoid of any emotion. Seeing them, Ye Xi unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief. "Instead of complaining uselessly here, you might as well cooperate properly. Don't make me regret bringing a piece of trash like you out here." An Er frowned slightly, as the constant explosions around him forced him to raise his voice.
"Don't order me around." Ye Xi grinned, her eyes already scanning the weapons on the back seat. This vehicle was clearly designed for transporting weapons; aside from the two front seats, there were no other seats. The original back seats had been replaced by several racks, piled high with weapons of varying sizes. "Not bad, you've got a good eye for vehicles." Looking at the weapons, Ye Xi couldn't help but admire them, choosing the largest one without hesitation—even though she had no idea how to use such a large weapon, with the pursuers behind them, she had to choose the biggest one, no matter how inexperienced she was.
While dodging artillery shells, An'er glanced distractedly at Ye Xi, who was frantically trying to handle the massive weapon. Seeing her clumsy movements, he couldn't help but sigh inwardly, though he didn't show his frustration on his face. "Take the steering wheel," he commanded, snatching the weapon from Ye Xi's hand before letting go.
"...Are you serious?!" Ye Xi quickly lunged forward and grabbed the steering wheel. "Hey, I don't have the skills to dodge shells!" she shouted in a panic, but An Er ignored her. He moved close to Ye Xi's body to the back of the car and used his elbow to open the sunroof.
Left with no other option, Ye Xi quickly moved to the driver's seat, constantly checking the rearview mirror for anything behind the car. "Okay, Ye Xi, you can do it..." Ye Xi kept encouraging herself, rubbing the steering wheel to wipe the cold sweat from her hands. "It's just a test of your agility! There's just an extra metal box as a conductor. With your reflexes, you can definitely dodge it!"
"You don't want to die, do you?" An'er squatted down behind Ye Xi, carrying something that looked like a rocket launcher.
"Nonsense, you finally escaped, if you want to die, then jump now." Because of her car phobia, Ye Xi's voice was slightly off-key, and very aggressive. Just as she was getting agitated, she suddenly felt a cold pressure on her right shoulder—An Er's hand. Although his hand was cold, Ye Xi felt strangely at ease. "Relax, stiffness will make you die faster."
His cold hands and deep, indifferent voice seemed to possess a magical power, slowly relaxing her. In a daze, she suddenly thought of Ah Quan—tsk, that Wesker, the bastard who used to make her relax when she had to drive…
Wait, what the hell is this strange memory and eerie feeling?! Ye Xi was startled. By this time, An Er had already withdrawn his hand and was leaning out of the sunroof to deal with the pursuers. She quickly focused her attention on driving, speeding along the highway with a fleet of tanks and armored vehicles that could crush them and their crew.
An'er is an amazing guy. Although Ye Xi, who was driving, couldn't know his combat situation, judging from the reduced number of shells, this guy's firepower was comparable to a mobile artillery platform. So in the biohazard apocalypse, the most terrifying thing is never the zombies, but these powerful beings who suddenly appear out of nowhere and the cheat-like organizations that monopolize everything in the apocalypse.
"Besides going straight, can you run anything else?!" An'er's voice came from outside, but it was drowned out by the sound of gunfire, so Ye Xi had to shout back. Receiving no reply, Ye Xi turned her head and was immediately confronted with someone's face. Startled, she shrank back, her hand trembling, and the straight driving line instantly veered off course. Fortunately, An'er reached out and grabbed the steering wheel in time.
"...What did you just say?" Ye Xi asked innocently.
An'er stared at her coldly for a long time, perhaps thinking about the sharp turn just now, and completely ignored her question. "Up in the sky," he pointed the muzzle of his gun at the roof of the car, and gave a contemptuous smile, "these weaklings have even sent reinforcements."
Ye Xi's face stiffened. Without even looking, she could already hear the sound of the propellers. "Then... what do we do? How many weapons do we have left?"
“That’s all.” An’er said casually, gesturing for Ye Xi to move to the passenger seat.
"Oh, that's it...that's it?!" Ye Xi, who had moved to the passenger seat, twitched her lips. "So fast?! Damn, you don't know how to save money..."
Before Ye Xi could finish her outburst, An Er's calm voice interrupted her: "Get that bird down."
This time, Ye Xi paused for a moment, then looked at An Er with a wary gaze: "Without weapons, what do you want me to do..."
“In that base, I learned about your abilities, I learned what you’re capable of.” An’er interrupted Ye Xi again, giving her a meaningful look that sent a chill down Ye Xi’s spine. “Do you think you’d be so energetic and lively now without that thing you need?”
What? Could it be… Ye Xi lowered her head. It was An Er who gave her the T-virus while she was unconscious?! A sense of crisis spread through her heart because of An Er's words. Thinking about it carefully, she seemed to have never really understood An Er. This man was definitely much more dangerous than he appeared on the surface!
Seeing that Ye Xi remained silent, An Er also stopped speaking. He seemed quite certain that Ye Xi would use her abilities. He was right; if Ye Xi wanted to escape the government's pursuit and survive, she had no choice but to use her abilities in the current situation, otherwise, she would face certain death. Ye Xi pursed her lips and looked up, staring directly at the helicopter that appeared on the windshield.
The plane was firing at the car where Ye Xi and An Er were, but after only a few shots, the constantly spinning propellers suddenly disappeared, and the remaining fuselage pounced on Ye Xi and An Er's car like a ferocious beast. An Er easily dodged it, and the plane crashed directly into the tank that was getting closer and closer to them...
Ye Xi, whose body hadn't fully recovered, had collapsed into her seat, panting heavily, when the plane crashed. She hadn't rested long when she heard An Er yell "Jump!"—their vehicle was too close to the tanks behind them and would be affected by the explosion—followed by a sudden pull. After a moment of dizziness, Ye Xi realized that An Er was holding her head, shielding her beneath him…
A drop of liquid fell onto Ye Xi's face.
"You're injured?!" Ye Xi immediately pushed him away and got up from the ground. The pursuers who had been chasing them were now reduced to ruins, and they were temporarily safe.
An'er didn't speak. Ye Xi looked at the wounds on his body in disbelief. She found it hard to believe that An'er could... Wait! Ye Xi's eyes widened involuntarily. She quickly jumped back a step, lowered her body, and stared at him warily. Her voice instantly turned cold: "Who are you?"
She looked at the familiar yet unfamiliar man before her, at his bewitching, blood-red eyes, at his self-healing wounds, and gritted her teeth: "You're a very good imposter... no wonder I felt awkward..." she murmured, watching the man raise an eyebrow and continue, "Where did you hide the real An'er? Is this some kind of experiment by your damned government?!"
In Ye Xi's memory, An'er couldn't heal his wounds on his own. Moreover, the skin-like thing on the man's neck clearly told her that he was wearing a human skin mask! No wonder she always felt something was strange about his neck, no wonder a pair of blood-red eyes flashed through her mind! Unexpectedly, the government, like Umbrella, also had T-virus adaptants, and their condition seemed to be the same as Albert Wesker's, and the man she had encountered before!
"Hmph, it seems I really overestimated you..." The man sneered upon hearing Ye Xi's words, his hand slowly moving towards her neck. "Don't you understand? You're completely wrong. There was never such a person as Anelbot from the beginning. Perhaps it's just your cowardly instinct that's causing you to avoid the issue. Haven't you ever wondered if the name 'Anelbot' sounds familiar?"
Ye Xi's face turned deathly pale in an instant. "You...you...what did you say..." Her lips trembled as she backed away, her hands fumbling for any weapons on her person—the man who had shared life and death with her was now a demon in her eyes!
With a "rip," the mask was quickly torn off, revealing a face that made Ye Xi instantly forget what resistance was—"Ye Xi, long time no see." It was that deep voice, yet it gave her a completely different feeling. In the end, Ye Xi's fear was just psychological.
“…Albert Wesker…” Ye Xi managed to utter a name with difficulty, forcing an awkward smile. She could hardly believe that her supposed escape from surveillance was all a load of bull! Wesker had been by her side for so long; she had so many opportunities, so many chances to discover his true colors, but because she refused to believe Wesker was still around, refused to believe she hadn't escaped his control, she instinctively ignored those opportunities!
You're kidding me!
Life, are you kidding me?!
