☆ Compromise, one-on-one duel
Ye Xi quietly watched Ethan. He looked extremely weak after being released from the glass jar, and struggled for a long time before finally managing to stand up and take a few steps. Alice and the other three—or rather, Alice, Carlos, and Nikolai, who knew Ethan—came out of their daze and immediately ran towards him.
They didn't know Ethan was "dead," or rather, they didn't know what had happened to him; they were simply instinctively trying to protect their former friend. But before they'd taken more than a few steps, Ethan, sensing something, suddenly raised his head, his crimson eyes filled with a chilling light. They were instantly immobilized, as if bound by an invisible force!
“Ethan, you…” Nikolai stared incredulously at Ethan, who was leaning against the glass jar. Beads of sweat streamed down Ethan’s forehead. He was breathing heavily, then slowly straightened up. The gentle expression on his face was gone, as if everything before had been an illusion.
“Well done, friend.” Alex, who had been standing a short distance away, suddenly appeared beside Ethan. Looking at Ethan's indifferent face, he seemed quite satisfied, patting him on the shoulder before helping him sit up like a close friend, and slowly leaning close to Ethan's ear. “They,” Alex pointed to Alice and the other three, “are all enemies…”
“The enemy…” Ethan’s sinister look was replaced by confusion. He slowly repeated Alex’s words, looking at the four people who looked surprised and angry. The confusion in his eyes gradually disappeared, and the killing intent slowly rose.
"Oh, poor Ethan, he's really been ruined by your little brother..." Seeing this, Ye Xi, an observer, sighed, her tone full of regret, with a hint of leisure and indifference. She turned to look at Wesker, her dark eyes strangely black. "Hey, Wesker, I'm going to fix him."
It was a statement, not a question, not a request for opinion. Although Ye Xi's tone was full of helplessness, Wesker knew what the strange look in this guy's eyes truly meant. Tying someone up too tightly could backfire, especially with Ye Xi in her current state? She was practically on fire without needing a spark. While Wesker could forcibly take this furious Ye Xi out, it would cause many problems later, and besides…
Wesker had long been annoyed by Ethan, who dared to covet his things.
What, you're asking about Alex? Sorry, Wesker ignored this guy a long time ago, or rather, he never even caught Wesker's eye. If it weren't for the information this guy had that piqued his interest, and if he weren't actually smart enough to avoid trouble, Alex would be dead by now.
Ye Xi certainly didn't intend to consult Wesker. Their current location wasn't in an aircraft carrier's monitoring room, nor was it on the shore; they were directly above Alex's petri dish hall. They didn't have any instruments to monitor what was happening below; their method of knowing what was going on was actually quite simple: they had simply drilled a hole.
As for why Ye Xi and Wesker could hear what Alex was saying, while Alex could only hear the broadcast and not their private conversation, Ye Xi said she didn't understand how Wesker managed it. She had shamelessly pestered Wesker for a long time before he wouldn't drag her out (a difficult process Ye Xi would never tell him), and then he brought her to this place and had everything ready in less than five minutes, making her think that Wesker already knew she wanted to stay and was just waiting for her to beg him.
Later, when Ye Xi thought about this, she mentally slammed the table, thinking, "Damn it, I never expected Wesker to be so insidious! He's all expressionless on the surface, but what's with his twisted sense of humor?!" ← Of course, that's a story for later. Ye Xi, already beyond furious, couldn't think about that now. She had just turned around to jump down from the more secluded hole when someone grabbed her left hand.
Was this guy planning to forcibly drag her away? Ye Xi frowned. That made sense. She had apparently promised before that she wouldn't get involved and would only watch from the sidelines. Now that she was going back on her word and trying to cause trouble, of course he wouldn't agree. Fine, if you don't agree, then you don't agree. I can't beat you, so can't I just run away?
Ye Xi's eyes darkened, and she lowered her body slightly. With her right hand, she swiftly turned and slashed upwards at Wesker's neck, which was completely exposed. The entire movement was completed in the blink of an eye, fast, accurate, and ruthless, as she hoped to break free from his grasp as quickly as possible and then leap into the cave entrance.
Unfortunately, just when we thought Wesker would take a step back from the sudden attack, it was as if he knew what Ye Xi would do before he even grabbed her hand. Ye Xi's right hand didn't strike Wesker's neck; instead, it was grabbed by his other hand, and then she was spun around and pinned down!
Damn it, how could this happen? Does he have precognitive abilities?! Ye Xi turned and attacked the instant Wesker grabbed her arm. Wesker even raised his other hand at the same time he grabbed Ye Xi's arm, as if he was just waiting for Ye Xi to offer herself to him.
Ye Xi glared fiercely at Wesker's sunglasses. Her skills were far inferior to his, so she had to resort to her abilities. But the next second, Wesker's words successfully stopped Ye Xi in her tracks—"Do you want to lose an eye...?"
His voice was deep and dangerous, tinged with a hint of coldness, directly awakening the fear buried deep within Ye Xi's heart. She seemed to recall some unpleasant memories. Wesker could clearly feel the slender body beneath him trembling slightly, and moreover, he could feel his usually useless heart clench again at the sight of Ye Xi—a terrifying sign. It seemed that ever since the day he captured Ye Xi for the second time, the day she feigned weakness and helplessness, calling out "A-Quan," something had been wrong with his body… no, perhaps even earlier… It seemed that after cleaning up that scumbag, he would have to thoroughly investigate what was going on…
Ye Xi had no idea what Wesker was thinking in that instant, but she understood why her body was trembling uncontrollably. She gritted her teeth and turned her head away; undeniably, she still harbored a deep fear of the monstrous Wesker.
"But Ye Xi, you can't falter at this climax!" Ye Xi told herself silently. The scene of Ethan's death gradually surfaced in her mind. His words, his expression, were deeply etched in her heart. She couldn't forget them, and she couldn't forget them. Ye Xi knew that Ethan's current state was all her fault. If she couldn't resolve it properly, she would never have peace of mind for the rest of her life—if she lived that long.
So, let's go to hell, Wesker. So what if he gets his eyes gouged out? I'll give them to him! Thinking this, Ye Xi suddenly turned around, her eyes filled with a resolute determination to fight to the death. But once again, Wesker's words made Ye Xi stop—"Stop messing around."
……!
What?! Stop messing around?! When did I ever mess with you?! What kind of crazy development is this?! You're the one messing with me! You little devil who's tormenting me! (Get lost!)
Ye Xi's brain went blank for a second, and before she could even show her claws, Wesker suddenly pulled her into his arms. In her daze, she seemed to see him take something out, and then she heard a loud "boom" and the ground began to shake violently. After that, she felt weightless.
Explosion?! When did you plant a bomb here, Wesker?! Ye Xi stared wide-eyed at the dust swirling around her, forgetting to break free from Wesker's embrace—Wesker had just blown up the entire upper floor of this hall, and then, like riding an elevator, they had fallen into this petri dish hall along with the entire floor.
Ye Xi stared blankly down at the shattered ground, a twitch appearing at the corner of her mouth. "They weren't all crushed to death, were they?" This bizarre thought suddenly popped into her head, but she dismissed it immediately. Apart from the unconscious person in the glass jar who couldn't escape, everyone in this hall was quite capable. Dead? Impossible. Injured? That was a possibility.
Wait, where's Ethan? He looks so weak. Even though Alex is with him, will he help him get away with this?
No, this floor is pressing down from all directions without any blind spots, there's no way to dodge it! Thinking of this, Ye Xi couldn't help but worry about Carlos and Nikola, who hadn't been enhanced by the T-virus. As for Chris... sorry, we're not close, I don't feel anything, whether he lives or dies doesn't matter ╮(╯▽╰)╭.
As the smoke slowly dissipated, the once brightly lit hall became dimly lit due to the explosion. Ye Xi searched for any signs of survivors. Soon after, several sounds came from underground, and a few figures emerged. Ye Xi immediately looked over; those who were supposed to die were alive, and those who weren't supposed to were also alive, and even the person she was supposed to personally repair was unharmed. Good.
Those who stood up swayed for a moment before becoming alert. The people standing on the ruins were clearly divided into three groups: Alex's trio, Alice's group of four, and Ye Xi and Wesker. "Hey, looks like you're all doing well~" Ye Xi greeted them with a smile.
Alice and the other three were slightly taken aback, feeling that something was off about Ye Xi and Wesker's actions—Wesker had his arm tightly around Ye Xi's slender waist, while Ye Xi had somehow wrapped her arms around Wesker's neck.
The oblivious girl, of course, didn't understand why they were stunned, nor did she realize that she was hooking her arm around someone's neck. She thought they hadn't recovered from the explosion yet and was about to try to bring their souls back when a huge piece of rock suddenly flew towards them!
Then, that's not the point. The point is, before Ye Xi could even slip away, the boulder, big enough to crush five or six people, was swatted away by Wesker's other hand, which wasn't around Ye Xi's waist, as if swatting a fly (with great disdain).
Is there any need to be so pretentious?! Be careful, or you'll get struck by lightning!
"You scum, let her go right now!" A roar interrupted Ye Xi's inner grumbling. Ethan's bloodshot eyes seemed to be overflowing with blood. His gentleness was gone, and his face was as ferocious as a beast that had lost its mind.
Ye Xi had already realized that this Ethan wasn't the Ethan she knew, so she wasn't surprised by his current appearance. She just stared blankly at Ethan, then turned to look at Alice and the other three, who all looked embarrassed. Suddenly realizing something, she stiffly turned back, looked up, and met Wesker's gaze, which was slightly lowered and looking at her through his sunglasses…
So, Ye Xi was embarrassed. She immediately released her arms from Wesker's neck and placed them on his chest, trying to push him away, but Wesker's arms around Ye Xi's waist didn't budge. Ye Xi panicked, seemingly forgetting what was important, and her face flushed red: "Uh... Wesker, let go of me!"
Unfortunately, Wesker completely ignored Ye Xi's bewilderment and just stared at her intently. His gaze was so piercing that even with sunglasses on, Ye Xi could still sense the danger in it.
“You’ve never disappointed me, Ye Xi,” Wesker said slowly, glancing at Alex’s deep gaze. A faint, sarcastic smile suddenly appeared on his stiff face. “Of course, not this time either. As for your willfulness today, I’ll settle the score with you later.”
Ye Xi stopped struggling, staring blankly at Wesker's eyes behind his sunglasses, her heart slowly sinking. After a long while, she suddenly pushed Wesker away with all her might, turned to face Alex and the other two, and a cold smile gradually spread across her lips again. Ye Xi pulled out two military daggers that Wesker had given her after saving her from her leg bag, twirling them as she leisurely asked, "My dear idiot senior, long time no see, but I don't have time to discuss life with you. Okay, here's a choice: are you going to challenge me to a duel, or should I challenge you and that scumbag couple to a duel?"
