☆, Decision, Supermarket Horror

Author's Note: So, Dust, I'm back~~~~~ Okay, enough said, here's the story. Although this chapter isn't scary at all, I really can't come up with a title OJZ. As usual, the Overlord gets gang-raped by Lickers a thousand times, a thousand times.

Ye Xi and the other two looked at each other, but none of them took the initiative to pick up the phone.

"Nobody would call their own phone at a time like this, right?" Ye Xi joked.

Carlos frowned, then decisively picked up the phone from the ground, pressed the answer button and turned on the speakerphone. A slightly impatient adult male voice came through: "Oh, thank goodness, you finally answered."

Upon hearing this, Ye Xi's expression immediately stiffened. Could this guy be Angela's father, Dr. Asiford? "Who are you?" Carlos asked in a low voice, his tone wary.

"Who I am is not important. What's important is that I can find a way to get you out of here, as long as you do me a favor."

Upon hearing that they could leave, Carlos and Nicola exchanged a glance, then Carlos, still wary, said, "Help? How do we know if you're trustworthy?"

The voice, however, seemed indifferent. "You have no choice. You should know that there are still some living people in this city."

“…What do you want?” Carlos raised his hand to stop Nikolai from speaking, and then compromised.

"Find my daughter Angela. She's at Raccoon City Junior High. Once you find her, I'll tell you how to get out of this hellhole." Dr. Asiford finished speaking and hung up the phone without giving Carlos any chance to respond. Carlos glanced at his phone, then casually threw it on the ground. He stood up and asked Ye Xi and Nikola, "What are your opinions?"

Nikolai shrugged. "Although I think there's definitely something fishy going on here, it seems we have no choice, don't we?" He paused, looked at Ye Xi who had been silent, and continued, "What do you think, Ye?"

Ye Xi certainly didn't want to take the risk, because she already knew where the helicopter that could take her to safety was. However, if she were separated from them now, Ye Xi didn't believe she had Alice's strength to single-handedly conquer the entire Raccoon City. Besides, she was exhausted and hungry, and simply couldn't hold on until the end. So, she gritted her teeth, and despite being terrified, she still stubbornly said, "It's just picking up a little girl from school, what's there to worry about?"

Seeing that Ye Xi and Nicola had reached an agreement, Carlos nodded. "Then let's go to that school as soon as possible to find that little girl, and then we can safely leave this awful place and find a nightclub to relax!"

"Hey, I can't wait!" Nikolai was also full of enthusiasm. Perhaps seeing that Ye Xi was trying to appear calm, he added, "Ye, once we get out of here, we definitely have to find a chance to get to know each other properly. You're just my type." He jokingly patted Ye Xi on the back to comfort her, trying to ease her nervousness.

Carlos joined in with a smile, "Oh? So you like this type? You're so different from me."

"Hey, do you think everyone's like you, forgetting their own name when they see a blonde, blue-eyed, big-breasted, wasp-waisted, voluptuous woman?" Nicola laughed and punched Carlos in the chest, shamelessly exposing Carlos's secrets.

These two guys… Ye Xi sighed and smiled helplessly, a warmth spreading through her heart, but she said nothing. She turned and found a reasonably good car, opened the driver's side door, leaned against it, and smiled, “I told you, stop fantasizing about women. How about I find each of you two girls to spend the night with after we get out? I'll cover the travel expenses. Right now, the most important thing is to find that little loli. Who's driving? Just so you know, I failed my driving test 20 times. If you trust me, I can try driving, but I can't guarantee your safety!”

“Of course it’s me.” Nikolai held onto the driver’s side door. “Ye, we’ve got a deal, so don’t worry about the money later.”

"Yes, yes." Ye Xi rolled her eyes. When the time comes? Pfft, she doesn't have a single penny right now. Once she leaves, she'll take a boat to some deserted island and live a leisurely farming life. Who cares what you do? You can jump around however you want and fly as many times as you want, but be careful of your health, dear.

"You're in such a hurry, anyone would think you've been holding back for years," Carlos joked, then opened the passenger door. "Ye Xi, you can sit in the back seat and rest for a while. It's still quite a distance to Raccoon City Junior High School from here." He glanced at Ye Xi's slightly tired face and added.

Ye Xi nodded silently, ignoring the sudden surge of guilt that welled up inside her—she had always tried to become cold-blooded to adapt to this cruel world—but she had never quite succeeded. She was a selfish person, Ye Xi admitted, but she also understood that she wasn't a cold person; on the contrary, she possessed a compassion that wasn't suited to this world. Thinking back to how she used to feel a pang of heartache at the sight of beggars and stray animals, and now she was forcing herself to become indifferent, Ye Xi suddenly felt incredibly pathetic.

So what if it's pathetic? Ye Xi, if you really want to live, don't worry about so much. Just worry about yourself... Ye Xi silently convinced herself.

But is that really enough? ... Ye Xi silently looked at the two men in front of her, and finally chose to look out the window...

After driving for a while, Ye Xi, who had just spotted the supermarket, suddenly yelled, "Stop the car!" Startled, Nikolai quickly slammed on the brakes, also waking Carlos, who was resting with his eyes closed and clutching his gun in the passenger seat. "What's wrong, Ye?"

"I haven't eaten or drunk anything all day. If I don't find something soon, I think I'll starve and die of thirst before those things bite me to death." Ye Xi licked her lips, looked out the window and saw that there was no sign of any movement, and then rushed to the supermarket.

"Wait... Damn it, Nikolai, you stay here and watch, I'm going with her." Carlos was about to stop her, but seeing Ye Xi running so fast, he had no choice but to let Nikolai watch the car, then grabbed his gun and got out of the car, catching up with Ye Xi who was standing outside the supermarket's glass door. "You go back to the car now, tell me what you need and I'll get it for you. It's too dangerous outside, who knows if there are zombies in there."

Carlos grabbed Ye Xi's arm, but Ye Xi broke free. "You..." He frowned, about to say something, but Ye Xi covered his mouth. Ye Xi put the index finger of her other hand to her lips in a shushing gesture, then lowered her hand from Carlos's mouth and pointed inside the supermarket.

Carlos immediately understood Ye Xi's meaning. He gestured for Ye Xi to crouch down close to the wall, then peeked out from behind the wall, peering through the glass door. Carlos's eyes didn't possess the same detection capabilities as Ye Xi's, so he couldn't see the zombies hiding behind the shelves and the cash register. Seeing this, Ye Xi immediately ran to Carlos's side and whispered, "I just saw them dart behind the shelves and the cash register."

“I can’t aim without a specific location,” Carlos replied quietly, his brow furrowed.

Ye Xi gritted her teeth and suddenly made up her mind: "I'll go lure them out!"

"No, it's too dangerous!" Carlos said seriously, gripping Ye Xi's arm tightly. "We have no idea if there are any other zombies!"

Ye Xi was a little anxious, but she couldn't tell him that she could see zombies hiding in all directions. If she did, who knew if he and Nikolai would mistake her for a mutated zombie and shoot her in the head. "Don't worry," Ye Xi gently placed her hand on Carlos's large hand that was tightly gripping hers, "I'll be fine, I believe in you." She said firmly.

Carlos paused for a moment, loosening his grip slightly, which gave Ye Xi the opportunity. She immediately broke free from Carlos's control, pushed open the glass door, and strode inside. Her sharp eyes instantly turned to the nearest cashier counter, while her peripheral vision kept an eye on the three zombies behind the shelves.

Three seconds later, the zombie behind the cashier jumped out first. The moment it appeared, Carlos shot it in the head. Then, two shelves not far from Ye Xi suddenly collapsed, and three more zombies stretched out their foul-smelling arms to attack Ye Xi. Three more gunshots rang out, and the three zombies that tried to bite Ye Xi were also blown off their heads by Carlos.

"I won't allow you to do such dangerous things again," Carlos said sternly, his face tense.

"Yes, sir!" Ye Xi clenched her right fist, raised her index and middle fingers to her forehead, and gave a smiling salute. Before she could lower her hand, her eyes suddenly sharpened, and her right hand swiftly reached into her leg pouch, pulling out a dagger with her index and middle fingers. She immediately swung it at Carlos in less than two seconds. Before Carlos could react, he heard a "thud" and fell to the ground. He turned his head in surprise, looking at the zombie lying on the ground with a dagger deeply embedded in its head, silently waiting for Ye Xi to remove the dagger from its skull, without uttering a word.

"Hehe, how about it? The dart throwing skills I practiced in the bar have finally come in handy. I practiced for a whole week back then!" Ye Xi gave a stiff smile, then quickly turned and ran towards the food section.

Carlos continued to watch Ye Xi's retreating figure silently. Such sharp skills couldn't have come from just throwing darts... Carlos recalled the scene just now. One second Ye Xi was all smiles, and the next second her eyes were filled with a sharp, cold light. From drawing the dagger to throwing it, it took less than two seconds, and without any hesitation... And then there was her rushing out of the horde of zombies. No one would believe that someone armed with weapons would be powerless, which was why he confiscated all her weapons back then.

However, Carlos will not force her to talk if she doesn't want to. Everyone has secrets, and Ye Xi didn't mean any harm, did she?

Thinking this, Carlos shook his head helplessly, then helped Ye Xi keep an eye on the surroundings.

As Ye Xi picked through her food, she mentally replayed the scene in her mind, tears streaming down her face… Damn it, even if I were asked to throw a dagger now, I couldn't possibly throw it that well. Heaven knows what was wrong with me just now; it was just a conditioned reflex… Damn it, how come there was still a zombie hiding in that corner?! I should have looked more carefully earlier; those things really are everywhere, just like cockroaches!! Ye Xi muttered to herself, wondering if Carlos suspected her. Probably not… Tears streaming down her face, Ye Xi tried to ignore Carlos's probing gaze, constantly deceiving herself, but it seemed to be very unsuccessful.

Fortunately, Carlos was the first to look away, and Ye Xi breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed she would have to be more careful in the future, as Carlos appeared to be starting to suspect her.

By the time Ye Xi returned to the car with Carlos, carrying large bags, Nikolai was already impatient. "My God, why were you so slow? I just heard gunshots, are you alright?"

"If something happened, I wouldn't be here." Carlos climbed into the passenger seat. "When we get out, you and Ye Xi should have a good match at the bar. You didn't see it just now, but that girl is really good at throwing darts."

Ye Xi, who was drinking water, was startled and almost choked. "Oh, really? Then I'll have to give it a try. I don't believe anyone can be better at darts than me." Nicola, oblivious to the deeper meaning in Carlos's words, drove off with a grin.

Ye Xi sat in the back seat, lowered her eyes, and slowly ate her bread. Actually, both Nikolai and Carlos were kind-hearted people. Even though Carlos suspected her, he hadn't done anything to harm her... Ye Xi thought silently, but she felt very uncomfortable.

Moreover, Nikolai... he probably won't make it out... Thinking of this, Ye Xi's heart tightened. That's why she hated encountering companions in this kind of apocalypse; it added an extra layer of concern and worry, making it difficult to abandon them and seek a way to survive on her own.

Ye Xi glanced quietly at Carlos ahead. The wound on his arm had turned red, and his entire arm had turned orange. Ye Xi tried hard to recall the T-virus formula and antidote formula she had seen in the Hive, attempting to use the memories of that "Ye Xi" to search for a way to prolong the T-virus outbreak. Then, she shifted her gaze to the food she had brought out. After thinking for a moment, she took out a bottle of iced orange juice and handed it to Carlos, saying, "Have some water. Vitamin C is very nutritious."

Vitamin C and low temperatures can both alleviate symptoms to some extent. Ye Xi didn't mention this; she watched Carlos drink the orange juice before smiling contentedly.
