☆, Jar, Uncle Wei's plan
Ye Xi finally remembered who Alex was. He was also a character who only existed in the game, but with Leon's unexpected appearance, Ye Xi didn't find it so unbelievable. In the game, only the name Alex Wesker and his report appeared; what he looked like and what his abilities were remained unknown.
Ye Xi didn't know much about him, only that he, like Albert Wesker, was a product of the Wesker Children project; like other test subjects, his original surname was removed and he was given the surname "Wesker"; he was also one of the few who adapted to the Progenitor Virus, surviving its clutches, researching the Progenitor Virus for Umbrella founder Spencer, and stealing all the research reports before Albert Wesker stormed Spencer's villa and then disappeared.
Even in Resident Evil 5, when Chris finally defeated Wesker, Alex didn't reappear, so for Ye Xi, he remains a mystery. In terms of overall strength, since he managed to escape Wesker's pursuit and disappear, he certainly isn't weak. If we assume that the Alex in this world also obtained the complete data… he won't be easy to deal with; Alex will be a major problem.
And what Wesker wanted was that data, right...? Caught between two awesome guys, Ye Xi felt incredibly frustrated, even though she didn't have any balls! But what could she do? The game had already begun, and as a mere pawn, she had no choice until the game ended...
A bitter feeling filled her heart, and the inexplicable tightness in her chest made Ye Xi's nose sting, and she almost cried. Just then, a voice suddenly came from beside her, which startled her and made her tears shrink back—"Now that you're awake, stop pretending."
That deep, magnetic voice, cold and with a hint of oppression—who else could it be but that bastard Albert Wesker?! Ye Xi stared wide-eyed in disbelief, her eyes meeting a broad chest. After a few seconds of pause, she stiffly and slowly raised her head, a magnified version of Wesker's stiff face appearing in her dazed eyes. After another few seconds of pause, Ye Xi suddenly realized that the distance between them seemed too close. She panicked and tried to take a few steps back, forgetting that this was a cylindrical glass jar that could only hold one person. Now that two people were crammed in, where was there room to retreat?
After a muffled thud, Ye Xi, her eyes brimming with tears, clutched her head and rubbed it—damn, did I get a concussion from exerting too much force just now…? Wesker looked down at his experimental subject, who resembled a frightened little animal, without saying a word, but his gaze softened slightly involuntarily. Of course, it was only for a moment, because the little animal suddenly transformed into a tigress—Ye Xi remembered something and suddenly grabbed Wesker's collar.
"What are you doing here?! No, wait, am I some kind of omnipotent being, besides being your farting test subject, I'm also free to scout ahead and infiltrate?! Damn it, do you even know Alex's target is you?!" Ye Xi roared, heaven knows where she got the courage to curse Wesker so vehemently. But the thought of him about to fall into a trap annoyed her; she absolutely didn't want to see Wesker defeated, as that would ruin her invincible image of him. As for their past grievances, Ye Xi would settle them later. She hadn't gotten her revenge yet, and it wasn't her place to make the first move against him.
Wesker remained silent. Ye Xi stared at him for a long time but couldn't discern anything from his sunglasses. Finally, she sensed something was amiss: "Wait, did you already know Alex's target was you?! No, if you already knew, why did you rush in here? Trying to get yourself reincarnated sooner? You…"
“You’re worried,” Wesker finally spoke, calmly interrupting Ye Xi’s tirade. Ye Xi froze, finally calming down, and realized again that they were too close, almost touching. A certain scene flashed through her mind again—a scene of lips meeting. Unsurprisingly, Ye Xi’s sense of propriety resurfaced, her face flushing bright red. She quickly turned away, haughtily saying, “Who…who the hell is worried about you!”
Wesker's voice remained cold: "Did I say you were worried about me?"
Wesker's voice was indeed the same as usual, but Ye Xi somehow managed to detect a hint of teasing in it. Her face turned even redder, and she opened her mouth several times but couldn't say anything, afraid of saying something that would only make things worse. So she just gave an awkward snort and kept turning her head away from him.
This is blatant harassment! It's an insult to my character! Ye Xi gritted her teeth, cursing inwardly. Before she could even finish her tirade, she felt a sharp pain in her chin. Wesker had grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him. "I'll settle the score with you for insulting me behind my back later, but now..."
"Who's been badmouthing you behind your back, um..." Ye Xi was about to argue when Wesker roughly and directly silenced her with a kiss. Ye Xi's mind went blank again—she'd been...been ...
Ye Xi shuddered, immediately shut her mouth, and shook her head violently, staring at Wesker in a panic. But the guy acted as if nothing had happened, his tone completely calm: "Now, don't ask anything, just follow my instructions, hold your breath, and we're leaving here."
"Why..." Ye Xi wanted to ask why she had to hold her breath, but then she remembered that this domineering pseudo-blind man seemed to have told her not to ask anything, so she immediately nodded. She glanced at the relatively narrow space between the glass jars out of the corner of her eye, and her intuition told her that there was definitely more than just air in those spaces.
"Put this on." Wesker tossed something to Ye Xi. Ye Xi bent down and looked at it, and found that it was a white robe made of some unknown material. It didn't feel special to the touch, and it was too long when she put it on, making her look out of place.
"Put on the hat," Wesker instructed again. Ye Xi understood somewhat. She put on the hood of her coat; the hood was unusual, with a transparent visor attached. After zipping it up, Ye Xi was completely covered. She looked up at Wesker and saw that he was wearing the same black leather trench coat. She frowned: "Where's yours? There's definitely poison on the outside."
Wesker ignored Ye Xi. Seeing that she was ready, he raised his hand and typed something on a large keyboard that had appeared on the glass wall at some unknown time. He said to Ye Xi in a low voice, "Hold your breath."
Ye Xi took a deep breath. Fine, ignore it then. Just consider it a silly question: "Sir, you're so awesome you don't need some junk protective suit." Her eyes quickly searched for a way out between the gaps in the tanks filled with people, ignoring the goosebumps she felt at the sight of those tanks. She was ready to run out as soon as the door opened, but suddenly Wesker picked her up and carried her on his shoulder, startling her so much that she almost coughed up the breath she had just held. Fortunately, she managed to hold it in.
"If you think I'm too slow, just say so! Do you think everyone is as fast as you, faster than a bullet?" Ye Xi thought to herself, rolling her eyes. In those few seconds, the scene before her eyes flashed, the lights dimmed, and in a daze, Wesker had already put Ye Xi down, while the glass jars were on the other side of the door.
With a sizzling sound, a pungent, acrid smell of blood wafted into Ye Xi's nostrils. Still adjusting to the sudden shift from bright to dim light, Ye Xi was slightly startled. Although the room was dimly lit, her special vision allowed her to clearly see Wesker's terrible condition—his clothes were tattered, and his skin looked as if it had been splashed with sulfuric acid… Ye Xi immediately realized what had happened. In just a few seconds, the poisonous gas had… injured someone as highly protected as Wesker like this!
Ye Xi immediately pulled off her hat, her outstretched hand pausing before she lowered it. She didn't like owing favors, especially Wesker's. She wasn't stupid; she knew perfectly well that there was only one of these protective suits, otherwise he wouldn't have only brought one, and then given her the only one… Holy crap, was God out of his mind? When did Wesker become so kind?
Ye Xi watched quietly as Wesker's wounds slowly healed. However, he seemed oblivious to Ye Xi's gaze, continuing to move his slender fingers on the control screen by the door with a blank expression. The screen illuminated his face covered in wounds. His sunglasses had long since been discarded, and his bloodshot eyes, now unmasked, were filled with a deep, unfathomable darkness.
"Okay, whatever your original intention was, and no matter how much I hate you, let's keep things separate. Thank you for what happened earlier." Ye Xi wasn't one to be sentimental, so since Wesker had indeed given her the only protective suit, she naturally had to thank him.
Ye Xi leaned against the door with her arms crossed, turning to look at Wesker, who was probably modifying some program. She didn't have any expectation that Wesker would accept her thanks, so she didn't bring up the matter again. Instead, she asked a question she had always wanted to know: "You have to tell me what's going on. I don't want to be kept in the dark."
Wesker glanced at Ye Xi, then looked away and said slowly, "Alex's thinking is not hard to understand. As his biggest threat, he has no interest in doing anything else unless I am eliminated. So, I knew from the beginning that his target was me. However, he is not a threat to me. But he has something I want, which makes it impossible for me to simply eliminate him."
"Therefore, I gave him the illusion from the beginning that 'he can defeat me,' which made him, who was being cautious, expose more and more flaws. Arrogance is a wonderfully deadly thing, and Alex will soon find out. He thought I had fallen into his trap, but he didn't realize that he was the one who had actually fallen into the trap."
"So it's not hard to guess that he would poison the culture chamber. Given your special status and what you mean to me, he knew I would definitely come looking for you. But as foolish as he is, he could never have imagined that without the controller, I could still open the door of the culture chamber that he thought was indestructible and take you out. He also could never have imagined that the poison he thought would cause me great harm was actually completely useless."
At this point, Wesker's lips curled into a slight smile. "Finally, it's time for the retaliation." He pressed the last key, his smile becoming increasingly meaningful. Ye Xi frowned slightly; Wesker's words were too vague for her to fully understand. Did he mean that he already knew Alex had ulterior motives, and so he naturally and subtly laid a trap for the fish to take the bait?
But what does this have to do with his trip to the government base? Ye Xi never believed that the government base they encountered and were arrested at when Wesker was still An'er was just a coincidence.
Wesker hadn't told her everything, or rather, Wesker didn't trust her. Albert Wesker didn't trust anyone but himself. This should be perfectly reasonable, just like Ye Xi, who, because of past conflicts, couldn't and wouldn't allow herself to trust Wesker now. But why did she still feel so uncomfortable knowing this?
Ye Xi's eyes dimmed...
