☆, Phone call, preparations for escape

She was truly exhausted. Constantly dodging and running away, without water or food, how much longer could she endure this? Ye Xi leaned against the wall, panting heavily. Ever since escaping the armory, she had been constantly on the run. To conserve her ammunition for longer, Ye Xi would almost always turn and run at the sight of a zombie, unless it spotted her or was very close.

She was physically weak and had little stamina, so she had to stop and catch her breath every few minutes. Given her poor stamina, Ye Xi concluded that the T-virus hadn't actually enhanced her body; it had merely turned her eyes into sensors. It's worth mentioning that after being bitten by the zombie dog, not only did Ye Xi's vision become lighter, but the zombies also turned red. At first, Ye Xi was quite unaccustomed to it, wasting a few bullets, but now she was much better.

The zombies turned red, and the Lickers were purple? Ye Xi certainly wouldn't forget that the Licker outside the weapons room was purple... Could it be that the colors change according to the level of danger? Just like in an online game, the attributes and levels of monsters that are much higher level than you are all question marks.

If that's really the case, she should be stronger than before, so why hasn't her stamina changed at all?! This is ridiculous! Ye Xi gritted her teeth, thinking resentfully. Before, all the zombies she saw were purple, but now the Lickers and the zombies she saw before were the same level of purple. So why was it that she could fight zombies so easily before, but now fighting Lickers is simply a pipe dream?

Logically speaking, I should be able to take down Lickers one by one with a single blow now!

Yes, that's just theoretically speaking. Ye Xi didn't have the courage or guts to actually find a Licker to test if it could one-shot them. After all, she had a very deep impression of this reptilian creature when watching the movie, and it had troubled her for a long time when playing Resident Evil. Ye Xi didn't think she could reach Alice's level of taking on three at once, so she could only think about this "theory" and shed tears.

So all that theory is fucking a scam, the most important thing is practice, practice!

"Ye Xi, are you feeling unwell?" The Red Queen's voice drifted over, and seeing that Ye Xi had been resting for too long, she unexpectedly asked with concern.

If the Red Queen truly cared about her, Ye Xi wouldn't be yelling "Damn it! Damn it!" anymore. "Don't worry, your grandpa can still handle it. I won't turn into that kind of zombie that causes traffic jams, leads to aesthetic fatigue, volcanic eruptions, frequent earthquakes, tsunamis, nuclear radiation, Gaddafi's downfall, and Libya's destruction." Ye Xi's voice held an indescribable sorrow. "Holy crap, so don't worry about whoever's outside, really! If you're really worried about your grandpa, I'll quickly dig a hole and bury your dad in it, you bastard!"

"..." The Red Queen fell silent, feeling depressed. Outside, the one who was supposedly worried that his grandfather was going to dig a hole to ruin his father was also miserable and miserable.

“Ye Xi…” Red Queen paused, her voice sounding somewhat defeated for some reason, “Ahem, if you’re willing, listen to me. I can tell you a safe route. People from Umbrella Corporation will be waiting for you outside.”

"Go to hell," Ye Xi thought to herself. "Don't make it sound so nice; just say you want to carry me straight to the lab table!"

Seeing that Ye Xi remained silent, the Red Queen, or more accurately, the unfortunate soul outside the Hive, immediately began to coax her: "I can tell you about a secret passage located inside the ventilation duct. It's prepared to deal with emergencies and leads directly to the park outside."

"A secret passage? Inside the ventilation duct? Don't tell me you're planning to squeeze me into that narrow passage and slowly incline me out over a month or two so I can see the light of day again." Ye Xi's lips twitched as she spoke.

"...Of course not, that passage is very spacious, enough for two 180cm tall people to pass side by side, it's just that the entrance is inside the ventilation duct."

I see… This time, Ye Xi really started to think about it. That so-called secret passage was definitely the best way out, and there was absolutely no way she would encounter any zombies or Lickers, unless there were already people inside. But if she took that path, what awaited her at the exit would be a large group of white-clad men with lewd smiles rushing towards her. Okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but that situation was definitely no less than escaping one danger only to fall into another.

But if she stayed here, she wasn't sure she could escape, after all, there were hordes of zombies and Lickers around. Getting scratched might not kill her, but being mobbed would definitely leave her bones behind.

What should she do? Ye Xi bit her lower lip, deep in thought. Then, as if hearing something, she suddenly turned around and acted without thinking—drawing the pistol from her waist and firing without hesitation. With a loud bang, the zombie in front of her turned completely green, fell to the ground, its head almost half blown off.

She took back what she said earlier—perhaps the T-virus had even enhanced her nerve reflexes. Ye Xi looked away; she still couldn't face a corpse with complete composure, especially such a horrific one.

The loud gunshot just now would definitely attract the attention of zombies or Lickers. Ye Xi drew out another gun, gripped both guns, and started running again.

Continuing like this will only lead to certain death; the weapons won't last until I leave.

But I absolutely do not want to be captured and put in a lab. Even if the virus eventually spreads throughout Raccoon City, I can escape. Nobody wants to be studied like a guinea pig.

So……

"Tell me the location of that secret passage." Ye Xi's cloudy eyes made it impossible to see what she was thinking, but her eyes narrowed slightly.

“Good girl.” Clearly, someone outside the Hive replaced the Red Queen, speaking in her voice with a hint of praise: “I guarantee that once you come out, you will be an official Umbrella Corporation technology researcher.”

If Ye Xi's eyes weren't naturally milky white, you would definitely have seen her roll her eyes. After hearing the "Red Queen's" words, she began searching for the passage.

It's less of a search and more of a stalling game. Alice and the others have been away from the server room for some time now, and soon the Red Queen will be shut down again, plunging the Hive into darkness and isolating it from the outside world. Then, no one outside will know what she's doing.

Being monitored is a really unpleasant feeling, and she also has to get rid of that group of people outside.

Finally, on her N+1th wrong turn, the entire floor suddenly went dark—the Red Queen's power had been shut off again!

Ye Xi finally stopped wandering around and headed straight for the laboratory on her floor. Aside from encountering a few zombies along the way, she didn't see a single Licker, which saved her a lot of time. Finally, after using up all the bullets in two pistols, she successfully reached the laboratory.

Ye Xi didn't want to stay here, nor did she want to be captured by the Umbrella Corporation, so she had no choice but to kill the white-clad personnel waiting outside. She was afraid of death; she didn't want to die. Faced with a choice between life and morality, she resolutely chose life. She didn't care what happened to others, nor could she care. In this cruel world, it was either you die or I die. Ye Xi wasn't a noble person; she couldn't possibly care about others at a time like this. She only wanted to survive, even if it meant clinging to life, by any means necessary.

After all, people are selfish; even the greatest hero is still just a human being.

I really have to thank Ye Xi, who used to be incredibly good at biology and chemistry. She had a whole bunch of drug-making methods in her head, and those things were deeply ingrained in her mind. As long as she thought of a drug, she could immediately figure out the steps and successfully make it. And now, all Ye Xi needs is a dose of sleeping pills that is enough to keep an elephant asleep for one or two hours without fail.

This is too simple, but making the potion in this dark and dangerous environment is still a bit time-consuming. During the process, Ye Xi wasted another box of bullets, and now she only has 5 boxes of bullets, 3 grenades, a machine gun, a pistol, a dagger, and an iron bar. Her original dual pistols had long since been stuck into the eyes of a zombie because she had run out of bullets.

Actually, it would be even better if it were inserted into the anus... Well, Ye Xi's mind went blank and she became wicked.

Ye Xi looked at the milky-white medicine in the thick syringe, then at the steel needle, before confidently placing it into her sleeve. These terrifying syringes were specially made by Umbrella Corporation to subdue experimental beasts such as elephants and tigers, so they could easily pierce the tough skin of a crocodile. However, if they were to pierce the body of a licker, they could only enter through its softest part: its tongue.

That's right, Ye Xi planned to take down a Licker. When this method first flashed through her mind, she thought she had gone mad. But if she wanted to take down the well-prepared, fully armed uncle in white, one or two zombies wouldn't be enough; the most effective weapon was still a Licker.

So, Ye Xi, driven by this crazy idea, created this extremely potent sleeping pill, hoping it would succeed. Ye Xi knew that with her limited abilities, catching a Licker would be suicidal, but although this method was extremely dangerous, the potential rewards were enormous. She only needed to slip away during their melee, and even if she couldn't escape, she could throw grenades when they were both exhausted and then run away. As long as she could escape to some deserted island, she could live a life of farming.

Perhaps Ye Xi's ideas were too perfect and unrealistic, but it was this unrealistic goal that kept her going until now. She didn't want to deny herself, otherwise she would die in the next second—she would rather deceive herself than die like this.

Ye Xi crawled into the ventilation duct that supposedly contained the secret passage and found a square gap that didn't connect to the other ducts. She pushed it open easily and found herself in a bright and spacious area. It seemed the entrance was just a little small. She could get in, but the Lickers couldn't!

Ye Xi crawled out again, looked at the narrow square entrance, reluctantly took out a grenade, pulled the fuse and placed it next to the entrance, then immediately jumped down and closed the door behind her. With a loud bang and the sound of rubble hitting the door, Ye Xi peeked out and looked around. After the smoke cleared, an entrance more than two meters wide appeared in front of Ye Xi.

Alright, everything is ready. Now it's time to find the Lickers. Ye Xi gripped the iron rod in her hand and turned around resolutely.

Go to Restaurant B first. Although so much time has passed, they can't possibly still be in the same place, but the chances of finding them there will be higher. Let's gamble on our luck! Ye Xi took a deep breath, trying to think of happy things, struggling to control her retreating heart and trembling body—she was afraid, but she had to do it.

Ye Xi, for all your hard work over the years, for your constitution that even the T-virus would weep over, you have to live on! Ye Xi encouraged herself, then pushed open the door of Restaurant B, and unsurprisingly saw neatly arranged rectangular boxes.

She couldn't possibly go inside to search; finding the Licker hidden behind those dozens of boxes would be too dangerous. Even if Ye Xi could see the purple figure through the boxes, they were far too large; going inside would be certain death. So, without hesitation, Ye Xi slashed her arm with her dagger, using her blood to lure the Licker closer.

Ye Xi was truly gambling with her life, betting on her chances of survival.

A chilling aura enveloped Ye Xi. In her pale green vision, a purple shadow flashed past. Ye Xi's expression froze; her deathly pale face showed no emotion. She immediately locked the door and ran—

With a loud crash, the door of Restaurant B was smashed open...

Author's Note: = = The next chapter will probably mark the end of the Hive arc, and then it'll be the unrestrained (?) and passionate (??) Raccoon City... So... everyone can really choose a male lead! As for curses and stuff, how about we switch to Alien today? Maybe a mermaid in the sewers, a Nightmare on Elm Street, Sadako, or Kagaya (shrug, pick one~)
