☆, Targeting, Desert Night Battle

☆, Targeting, Desert Night Battle

The pale moon gradually disappeared behind the gray clouds, and the only ray of light in the world vanished, leaving only the stiff headlights faintly illuminating a few inches of yellow earth ahead. Under these circumstances, advancing towards the horde of zombies would be suicidal. Humans' fighting ability would decrease due to limited vision, but zombies were different. Whether day or night, they could easily pinpoint their location using their keen sense of smell.

Ye Xi frowned, sitting on the back of Alice's motorcycle. Her bike had been confiscated by Claire for fear of a zombie attack, and her long-cultivated sense of danger finally made her sense something was amiss. Claire's attitude towards her was strange; it wasn't exactly friendly, nor was it repulsive. She seemed distant yet secretly watching her. A day's journey had already left Ye Xi on edge, and now Claire had used this seemingly reasonable method to take her horse away…

She claimed it was for its safety, but in reality, it was to prevent me from escaping in the chaos… Having been secretly watched by Claire all day, Ye Xi couldn't help but think in that direction. What seemed like good intentions were actually a high-sounding pretense, and this feeling of being watched made Ye Xi extremely uncomfortable. Although she was constantly being watched, Wesker, who seemed to be watching her all along, didn't seem to have taken any substantial action to threaten Ye Xi, while Claire's attitude was as if… she had already prepared a substantial action and was now afraid her target would escape!

"Ye Xi... Ye Xi? Ye Xi!" The call brought Ye Xi back to her senses. She winked at Alice in front of her, then smiled apologetically, "Sorry, I wasn't listening carefully. Did you say something?"

Alice glanced at Ye Xi in the rearview mirror, who was smiling gently and without any hint of her true feelings, then looked away: "I mean, can you see the horde of zombies ahead now? It's been 10 seconds since the alarm went off. At our current speed, we should have already run into them."

Hearing this, Ye Xi immediately looked up and was slightly startled. A dense mass of bright red zombies was moving ahead, no more than 20 meters away! At the same time, a wave of craving, like a drug withdrawal, washed over her. Ye Xi swallowed hard, trying to restore her hoarse voice to normal, and then shouted sharply, "Stop the car! The zombies are only 20 meters away! Turn off the headlights now!"

At Ye Xi's voice, the headlights of the two motorcycles went out instantly, plunging the surroundings into darkness. Ye Xi and the other three slowly gathered together. The howls of the zombies grew closer, and the stench of decay intensified, but apart from Ye Xi, no one knew their exact location. The darkness made them unconsciously tense, gripping their weapons tightly. Perhaps in the next second, a zombie would pounce from some unknown direction, or perhaps a whole horde would attack.

Their current state is like that of people who have suddenly gone blind, filled with an instinctive fear of darkness and a sense of bewilderment about the unknown.

“Relax…” Ye Xi could sense their tension and defensiveness. Alice was a little better, but Carlos and Nikolai were different. Although they were mercenaries, to Ye Xi and Alice they were just ordinary people. Besides, there were only four of them. Even if they weren't nervous, they were at least on edge, ready to explode at any moment. “The zombies move slowly, but given the current dense red mass, it would be unwise to charge straight through with a motorcycle.”

"So what should we do now?" Carlos asked as he searched around with his gun in hand, his mercenary instincts pushed to the limit.

"Actually, judging by the speed of these zombies, the sensor should be about 10 meters behind the first group, which is roughly in the front middle of the horde. In other words, we have to rush into the zombie horde and search for the sensor's exact location in the dark among these nearly 100 zombies." Ye Xi didn't answer, but simply stated the complexity of the situation. If it were just her alone, it wouldn't be a problem; she wasn't afraid of the T-virus, and as long as she acted quickly, she should be able to barely get her hands on the sensor.

The problem is, there are 20 sensors that she can't possibly carry alone. Moreover, this is all based on theoretical deductions. In reality, the remaining three people would never let Ye Xi rush into the zombie horde alone. Even if they agreed, Ye Xi, a girl who always thinks of herself, would never ask to go alone, unless she were Alice instead of Ye Xi.

Most importantly, with so many T-virus mobile entities, Ye Xi was afraid she might not be able to resist a loving pounce, which would be quite interesting...

This creates a dilemma. Ye Xi isn't afraid of the T-virus and even craves it, but among the remaining three, whether Alice will be infected is unknown, and the two mercenaries are a different story—they're the type who would die instantly if bitten without antibodies. Obviously, Ye Xi can't conjure antibodies without chemical equipment, so comparatively speaking, those two are the most dangerous.

In a split second, Carlos and Nicola realized the danger of their mission. Nicola chuckled wryly, "Oh dear, looks like this mission is going to be particularly exciting!"

"Tsk, you're still worried about your beauty? I heard you muttering about it for ages on the way here," Carlos retorted, trying to ease the tension.

Seeing Carlos so frankly expose his territory, Nicola immediately added, "Hey bro, you're not much better, are you? Don't think I don't know..."

With a "whoosh," something pierced the air beside Nikolai's ear, successfully interrupting his teasing. With a muffled "thud," the object fell heavily to the ground. Nikolai turned around in surprise to look at the object lying behind him. Although it was pitch black all around, his eyes adjusted and he could make out the vague outline of what was around him. The object was clearly a zombie corpse with a small knife stuck in its head!

"They're here." Ye Xi's eyes sharpened, and she instantly assumed a fighting stance. At the same time, Alice jumped up and kicked the head of a zombie that was lunging at Carlos. "You all have flashlights, right? Use the beams to regroup if you get separated! Ye Xi, you're in a group with Nikolai, and I'll be in a group with Carlos. Let's move out!" Alice flashed in front of Carlos and shouted to Ye Xi.

Tsk tsk, an affair just naturally arises like that! Ye Xi sighed inwardly, nodded, and immediately went to Nikolai's side. A gunshot rang out, and the operation officially began.

"Nikolai, I'm clearing a horde of zombies ahead. Watch out for your surroundings. If you get bitten or scratched, don't blame me for blowing your head off!" Ye Xi said. Luckily, Ye Xi had her back to Nikolai; otherwise, if Nikolai had seen Ye Xi's instinctively excited smile, it would have given him a real fright.

However, this couldn't be blamed on Ye Xi. Rationally, she absolutely didn't want to become addicted to the T-virus, but the instinctive desire made it difficult for her to control her feelings. She took a deep breath, and after receiving Nikolai's reply, she immediately drew the two Miao swords from her waist and charged forward, aiming them directly at the foreheads of the two zombies in front of her. The Miao swords were so sharp that the tips pierced directly through the zombies' heads.

Ye Xi didn't stop, continuing to charge forward with Nikolai. Gripping the hilt of his sword tightly, he roared and spread his arms, sweeping aside the corpses stuck in his Miao sword, creating a path. Then, Ye Xi immediately flicked his wrist and drew the Miao sword back, the splattered liquid quickly disappearing into the yellow sand.

Running forward on soft sand is no easy task, especially with so many fearless zombies all around. Despite this, Ye Xi and Nikolai did not stop. They knew that if they stopped, the zombies would keep rushing towards them, making it extremely difficult to move forward again.

"Ye Xi, look, the sensor!" Nikolai shone his flashlight to their left front, found a target, and immediately raised his gun, accurately blowing the head off a zombie next to him. His voice was urgent. Ye Xi glanced at the upright sensor to her left front, maintained her backhand knife grip, spun 180 degrees, and decapitated four zombies in front of her. Then she immediately changed direction, forcefully leaping high into the air and slamming her feet onto the shoulder of a zombie blocking her left front. With a crisp "crack," the zombie's shoulders shattered.

Without panting, Ye Xi raised her head and flung the Miao knife in her hand like a dagger towards the horde of zombies ahead. Then, she grabbed the head of the zombie that was about to bite her foot and twisted it forcefully. With another crisp "crack," the struggling zombie went still. Ye Xi released her grip and then pushed down again, the force so great that it buried the upper half of the corpse beneath her feet into the sand. This time, her target was the corpse ahead with the Miao knife embedded in its body.

Before even landing after a forward somersault in mid-air, Ye Xi aimed at her target, gripped the hilt of her Miao sword, used the momentum to propel herself upwards again, and drew the sword with the force of the fall, completing another 360-degree forward somersault before landing steadily. Before she could even regain her footing, several zombies charged out from both sides, and with the sensor right in front of her, Ye Xi, unable to react in time, immediately ducked and rolled towards the sensor.

Several gunshots rang out as Ye Xi appeared, and the zombies that pounced on her were immediately blown off their heads. "Ye Xi, get down!" Nikolai shouted. Ye Xi, who was about to stand up, fell to the ground without thinking. Even Ye Xi herself didn't know why she fell down so decisively.

Nikolai pushed off with both feet twice, and two gleaming blades flashed into existence. He decisively dropped his empty submachine gun and charged towards the sensor. Two meters away, he leaped into the air, grabbing the upper part of the sensor and using it to propel himself up at a 90-degree angle. Using the momentum, he spun around, legs straight, and like a whirlwind, used the blades beneath his feet to slash at the heads of the surrounding zombies.

"Holy crap, I have to say that move was pretty cool." Lying on the ground, Ye Xi propped her head up with one hand while mentally complaining, "If you want to imitate Neo from The Matrix, just say so!" Ye Xi wouldn't admit that she'd actually wanted to do that herself. Nikolai landed, and the surrounding zombies didn't swarm back in. He immediately pulled out the sensor. The sensor had been turned off before he arrived, so pulling it out wasn't a big problem. However, because of Nikolai's earlier movement, the sensor had sunk even deeper into the sand, so it took a little effort.

"How about it? I've wanted to do this for ages! Even though it's physically demanding." Nikolai said to Ye Xi with a grin, carrying the sensor.

Ye Xi rolled her eyes at him without hesitation: "Not bad, you should be glad you haven't been bitten, scratched, or tackled yet." She turned and pointed to the side. "Hurry up and go, we were all allocated ten, and you've only got one so far, what are you bragging about?"

Nikola's smile immediately froze: "Really, do you have to be so disappointing?" He pulled out his pistol and cocked it. Carlos had placed the sensors in a circular pattern around the team's vehicles, so walking in the direction Ye Xi had pointed out would inevitably lead to encountering several sensors.

Ye Xi's strategy of charging forward in one go was straightforward and a bit physically demanding, but the effect was still very obvious. At least with Ye Xi leading the charge, the speed was very fast. Watching Ye Xi's momentum, Nikolai had more than once wondered if this girl was some kind of Tyrannosaurus Rex or something in her past life. Damn, that momentum was too fierce, she was practically sweeping through a field without regard for her life!

"Phew... just one more..." Nikolai, panting heavily, carried eight sensors. In order for Ye Xi to move forward like a tank, Nikolai had practically draped the sensors over himself. As for the ninth one, since he didn't have any hands to hold it, he could only watch Ye Xi carry it.

Seeing Nikola sweating profusely in the cold weather, Ye Xi sighed inwardly and snatched the three sensors from Nikola's right shoulder: "I don't have the strength to block so many zombies for you. Take care of yourself." With that, she immediately turned and headed towards the last sensor.

Nikolai paused for a moment, then smiled helplessly, picked up his gun and followed Ye Xi—really, this kid's concern for people is so awkward.

Author's Note: Please believe that the male lead is really Uncle Wei QAQ. Ah Quan's motives are truly impure; he's not a good person at all (picking nose). Nikolai and Ye Xi are just close friends, really close friends~~ (Get lost, stop messing around! I curse you all to be raped by zombies!!!) Begging for comments~~~
