☆, The Park, A Mysterious Person

The cold night wind rushed past Ye Xi's ears, and the brightly lit high-rise buildings grew farther and farther away until they disappeared. But Ye Xi did not stop. As if she wanted to squeeze out all her strength, she kept controlling the branches to grow wildly, one after another, pulling herself further and further away until she was exhausted. The branches wrapped around Ye Xi's waist returned to their original state, and Ye Xi fell hard like a puppet with its strings cut, breaking three ribs and an arm.

She could barely feel the pain anymore. The excessive strain had left her incredibly weak, and coupled with the undigested excess T-virus from before, she was now almost unconscious. Yes, it was an excess. Ye Xi had taken the compressed and purified T-virus, now in small particles, two weeks after she went blind. To keep the created branches extending through countless wires until they completely covered the underground castle and transmitted the terrain to her brain, Ye Xi secretly injected herself with the T-virus every day. The pure viral fluid was far more potent than the virus in zombie blood, and digesting it all in one day was no easy task. That's why she had stayed obediently in the base for so long.

Oh, and by the way, besides temporarily short-circuiting the monitoring system, she also seems to have used plants to damage something that's probably very important. And it seems that pressing a rarely used button, like to completely lock down the base and put it into strategic mode, might cause something terrifying. Well, she's not exactly a physics or electrical expert, so Ye Xi can't be sure what will happen in the end. She just hopes that Wesker doesn't keep pressing that button for no reason.

Well, my dearest Alice, my only kindred spirit, I'm sure you'll absolutely love this wonderful gift. Thinking about how Alice the Warrior would eventually fight her way here to defeat the boss, Ye Xi forced a weak smile. Even if Wesker initially intended to sacrifice the fortress in Japan, he'd still symbolically press that button, so… well, consider it compensation for Alice. As for Alice's safety, well, Alice, with her protagonist's halo, will definitely be fine. Ye Xi won't tell you she's never even considered that.

Getting back to the point. Before, in order not to show weakness in front of Wesker, heaven knows how Ye Xi managed to suppress that torment and trembling. "Pfft—" A mouthful of black blood spurted from Ye Xi's mouth. Heh, now she really was spitting blood.

Ye Xi smiled bitterly, struggling to prop herself up from the damp, muddy ground with one hand. She tried to stay conscious, but even though her injuries were so severe that taking a single step was difficult, the pain—which would have been fatal to her in the past—didn't completely pull her out of her daze. She felt so tired, so very tired, and just wanted to fall asleep... to fall asleep...

"Oh God, Ye Xi, how could you have such negative thoughts! Living is your only purpose!" Ye Xi shook her head violently, trying to banish these cowardly and incompetent thoughts. But she was truly exhausted. Living like an addict without dignity, relying on the T-virus, and worrying about being hunted down by the most dangerous people in the world—living like this was worse than death! A strange sense of grievance spread through Ye Xi's chest. Ye Xi could admit that she wasn't strong enough to ignore this pain, so it was understandable that she found her eyes welling up with tears without her realizing it. But her strong will absolutely not allow her to be so useless.

"Maybe if you're alive you can go home, but if you're dead, you'll have nothing left..." Ye Xi told herself. The long years eroded Ye Xi's memory, making her almost forget the faces of her parents and friends, but every day she spent with them became clearer and more profound with the passage of time. Ye Xi would never forget that ordinary happiness and joy, nor the warmth that only exists between humans.

Since arriving here, Ye Xi has done many things against her conscience. From initial self-reproach and fear to her current numbness, the cruelty of the apocalypse has gradually devoured her conscience, but it cannot destroy her humanity. Although Ye Xi always verbally excludes herself from the realm of humanity, deep down, she knows she is still that selfish Ye Xi, that Ye Xi who loves photography and online games, that Ye Xi who is afraid of pain yet loves to show off, that Ye Xi who, like most children, worries her parents but deeply loves them…

Ye Xi knew, Ye Xi had always known. No one in this world knew about her past. If even she herself forgot herself, then there would be no longer such a unique and one-of-a-kind girl in the world.

So, Ye Xi, you can't have those kinds of thoughts anymore. No matter how bitter life is, there's always a reason for it; no matter how tiring life is, there's a meaning to it. Living is always better than dying. You still need to go home and eat your mother's cooking, so pull yourself together! Ye Xi straightened her back, although her head was a little dizzy and she seemed to be bleeding, but Ye Xi didn't stop. She tried to leave this place as soon as possible, leave this country, leave this dangerous place, and run away to hide in the deep mountains and forests of my great Celestial Empire.

Ye Xi probably fell into a park, and parks are usually deserted at night. Besides, the global biohazard crisis has engulfed Japan, so the people there are probably zombies. Tsk, it just smashed the T-virus syringe she'd smuggled from the lab when it fell from the sky. Now she probably needs a cute zombie girl or zombie guy to fill her lonely, empty, and cold heart.

Perhaps because she hadn't drunk fresh blood in a long time, the pungent smell emanating from Ye Xi attracted several zombies wandering the park. Ye Xi looked at the four red, humanoid figures swaying in the distance and her expression turned serious. She was in very poor condition; even the slightest movement caused her head to throb with pain. Fighting all four zombies at once would be quite difficult. However, she didn't want to waste this opportunity, so she picked up a large rock beside her and braced herself to charge forward.

Ye Xi wasn't at her optimal speed, but she was already sprinting with all her might. The zombie closest to her, seeing its prey practically throwing itself at her, immediately pounced, only to miss. Ye Xi pulled herself aside, barely managing to dodge its pounce. A chill ran down her spine, and realizing the danger, Ye Xi struggled to control her body to avoid another zombie attack. She had barely taken a step when a zombie grabbed her from behind. The stench of decay and blood assaulted her nose, and a sharp pain shot through her shoulder. That damned creature had plunged its sharp, black teeth, filled with flesh, into her shoulder!

Ye Xi grunted, and before she could retaliate, the zombie she dodged bit her leg. "Damn this body!" Ye Xi cursed inwardly, her voice filled with frustration. If it were the old her, she would never have tolerated these tiny zombies' audacity! As the other two drew closer, Ye Xi's mood worsened. The high T-virus concentration in her body, coupled with the slow digestion of the O-virus, was causing her recovery to be extremely slow. She simply had no chance to break free!

"Bang bang bang bang—" Four gunshots suddenly rang out. The force holding Ye Xi loosened, and she immediately broke free. Then, just as Ye Xi was about to look at the people who were dealing with these four troublemakers, a sense of crisis came over her. She immediately rolled forward according to her sometimes unreliable intuition. Another "bang" rang out, and a bullet grazed her head, taking away a few strands of hair.

Clearly, the newcomer hadn't anticipated that Ye Xi, despite her severe injuries, could still dodge bullets. But this man had survived a zombie attack, so after only a second's pause, he pointed his gun at Ye Xi again. This time, Ye Xi, having recovered somewhat and no longer feeling as dizzy as before, gave him no chance. She grabbed some sand from the ground and hurled it at his eyes, then seized the opportunity to chop his wrist holding the gun. The gun fell, she caught it, skillfully twirled it in her hand, and pointed it at the man who had already covered his eyes and taken a step back.

“OK, now we can talk calmly.” Ye Xi looked at the man’s Asian face, switched her memory to Japanese mode, and said firmly, “First, thank you for coming to my rescue, but it’s unnecessary for me. Second, I understand your decisiveness towards the infected, but, referring to the previous point, it’s unnecessary for me. I believe you still have weapons, so I’m confiscating this gun, including the two magazines of bullets in your pocket. Take them out.” Ye Xi pointed the gun at his pocket, signaling him to move quickly.

The guy remained unmoved, simply staring coldly at Ye Xi's face. His perfect night vision allowed Ye Xi to see his eyes, red from being filled with sand. Wait, could it be that he doesn't understand Japanese? Is he some kind of Asian who came from another country? "Hey, do you understand?" Ye Xi called out to him, but he suddenly charged at her like a wild beast.

"Damn it, didn't you see I have a gun? Or has this guy been driven mad by the zombies?" Ye Xi's eyes turned cold. She had intended to shoot him the moment she got the gun. After all, Ye Xi wasn't a kind person, and she would never show mercy to anyone who harbored murderous intent towards her. Now it seemed she was right... But just as Ye Xi was about to fire, she suddenly saw—at such close range—that his eyes were originally red, not made of sand! In that moment of stunned silence, the person in front of her suddenly disappeared. A chill ran down her neck, and her wrist was suddenly pressed tightly against her back. She was about to stomp on his instep with her heel when suddenly the strength in his hand increased dramatically. The pressure on her neck made it hard for her to breathe, let alone move her foot.

"Let...let go..." Not knowing the man's nationality, Ye Xi struggled to utter a few words in English, but the man remained unmoved. Damn it, she hadn't died at Wesker's hands, but was she going to be strangled to death by this bastard?! Ye Xi struggled desperately; her strength had recovered to at least 50%, but the man's hand remained completely still, not even budging an inch! Keep in mind, Ye Xi's strength at 50% recovery was far greater than that of a normal person!

Just as Ye Xi's struggles weakened, the man suddenly loosened his grip on her neck, but didn't completely release her. His strong, muscular arm remained across her neck, and his large, steel-like handcuffs still tightly bound her hands behind her back, so Ye Xi still couldn't break free. "What's your name?" Ye Xi felt warm breath on her ear, but his voice was colder than ice. English—he spoke English, with a perfect American accent.

"Cough cough... It's none of your business!" Ye Xi shouted with difficulty, lowered her head and bit the man's arm, but before she could bite down, the man seemed to have expected Ye Xi to do so and immediately covered her mouth. Then he kicked Ye Xi's calf and released his hands that were holding Ye Xi's hands. With a dizzying turn, Ye Xi was covered in mouth and pressed to the ground.

"Damn it..." Ye Xi cursed under her breath, dizzy from the fall. With unbelievable agility, she raised her left leg and kicked out at the back of his head. The speed was so fast that an ordinary person would have no chance of dodging it, but this red-eyed man was clearly no ordinary person. He slightly turned his head and easily caught Ye Xi's powerful kick with his other hand. Obviously, Ye Xi had realized he was not easy to deal with when he trapped her, so she had expected him to dodge. She immediately grabbed his arm that was pressing her mouth with both hands and pulled in the opposite direction. Then, using the force of his grip on her leg, she lifted her body and kicked his chin with her right foot. Ye Xi was very fast. From the moment the man grabbed her leg to completing the action, it took less than a second. It was precisely because of her speed that the man was caught off guard and finally hit her.

Ye Xi immediately released his arm, creating distance between them, and warily stared at the man lying on the ground. From the weak contact between his feet, Ye Xi could clearly tell that his fall wasn't caused by her attack, but rather by his body leaning back and losing his balance while trying to dodge it. To be able to dodge my attack in such a short time, this man… Thinking this, Ye Xi gritted her teeth.

"Heh..." The man lying on the ground let out a strange laugh. He sat up, his hands casually resting on his knees. A cold glint flashed in his blood-red eyes, and a stiff smile appeared on his otherwise ordinary face. "The infected wound has healed... As expected, he's hard to tame. Number 013 certainly has a big appetite." He spoke slowly in words Ye Xi couldn't understand, his voice still icy, but now carrying a deeper meaning. "Woman, I'll give you a gift as an apology. It's on the rooftop of the building outside the park."

As he spoke, he tossed something to Ye Xi; judging from the clinking sound of metal, it was probably a set of keys. Something…the rooftop…keys…a helicopter! Ye Xi looked at him closely with some surprise. He had a physique completely unlike that of an Eastern man—strong muscles, yet he didn't look fat at all. He was about 185cm tall, with ordinary features and…vibrant red eyes. This red wasn't like Wesker's alluring and dangerous red; it was as clear as a fine ruby, but filled with a cold, dark light that sent a chill down one's spine.

"Why?" After struggling for a long time, Ye Xi finally managed to utter a single word.

“I’d like to.” He scoffed, then stood up and walked into the forest in the park.

Ye Xi stared blankly at his retreating figure. Just minutes ago, this man had tried to kill her, but now… “Who are you?!”

“Alex,” he replied in that slow, cold tone, before disappearing completely from Ye Xi’s sight.

Author's Note: I suddenly wanted to try daily updates, so here it is (the truth is this chapter went very smoothly, PS: I've been typing on my phone these past few days and it's really convenient). If there are too many typos... OJZ I'd better not have this idea in the future. You can guess Alex's identity. Those who have played the game should know... Here's a clear hint: Albert Wesker is the 013th test subject of Project Wesker (Project W). Maybe I didn't explain clearly why Ye Xi thought she tricked Uncle Wesker... My communication skills are truly terrible... First of all, everything is based on the premise that Ye Xi thought Wesker knew nothing. Ye Xi voluntarily allowed herself to be captured, knew she would be stripped (this girl has long since lost all morals), and was prepared to be abused. Then, after she set up a trap to escape, she told Uncle Wesker about her plan. So, she thought that Wesker, who "knew nothing and thought he could completely control Ye Xi, but it was all a trap," would definitely be furious. Tsk, it's just childish revenge. Even if the cost far outweighs the gain, she doesn't mind. As for cutting off her face in public, that brain-dead girl just wanted to prove she was powerful (?). By the way, she wanted to tell Uncle Wesker that she could cut off the chip if she wanted to; she just didn't want to before (by the way, I don't know if someone will feel uncomfortable about it). Sigh, I don't know if I've explained it clearly. Please don't test my communication skills anymore (facepalm). So, I underestimated my rambling. Brother C will appear in the next chapter.
