☆, Traces, New Partners

It was five o'clock in the afternoon. The soft light of dusk bathed the ground, making the bloodstains appear even more intense. In the apocalypse, not having a weapon was tantamount to a death sentence, unless you possessed immense power. Ye Xi cautiously scanned the clothing store using her eyesight, confirming the distribution of the slow-moving zombies, before crouching low and sneaking inside.

There were only three zombies inside the store, and they were located quite far from the entrance. Although they could smell Ye Xi's scent, judging by their movement speed, it would take them several tens of seconds to reach her. Fortunately, the sportswear was located near the entrance. Ye Xi quickly grabbed a sports vest that looked suitable, a pair of shorts, and a pair of shoes before darting to the lingerie store next door.

Perhaps because the glass doors of the lingerie store were closed, unlike the open doors of the clothing store, and there wasn't a single zombie inside, the staff probably realized something was wrong and fled. Ye Xi picked out the clothes and put them all into a bag. Just as she was about to escape, a somewhat urgent female voice suddenly came over the airport's public address system: "This is Claire Redfield. Survivors, please don't give up hope! There are still four of us! Please try to reach the airport's VIP lounge and meet up with us. Everything will be alright!"

Ye Xi was slightly taken aback. If she wasn't delusional, she had definitely heard that name just now. But now wasn't the time to be stunned. Alone and vulnerable, Ye Xi needed to stay with others to increase her chances of survival. Ye Xi immediately pressed herself against the door, determined her escape route, grabbed a clothesline pole from the corner, and dashed out of the lingerie store. At that moment, the nearest zombie was less than five meters away from her!

The situation didn't allow Ye Xi to fight, so she immediately ran towards the sign she had just seen—Airport Hotel. It was probably a rather basic hotel set up at the airport to provide overnight accommodation for stranded travelers. Ye Xi was currently wearing nothing but her tattered white lab coat, so she obviously couldn't go to the VIP room in this state. Therefore, her target was that basic hotel; although the facilities were rudimentary, surely there would be a place to shower.

Ye Xi sprinted into the hotel at top speed. Perhaps because there was still time for everyone to escape, there weren't many zombies wandering around the hotel. However, not many didn't mean there weren't any. Ye Xi squinted at the zombies loitering near the cashier, rushed forward, and swung the clothesline pole at one of the zombies' heads. With a dull thud, the side of the clothesline pole that struck the zombie's head dented slightly, and the zombie collapsed to the ground, convulsing.

A person's head is very sturdy. That blow certainly wouldn't kill the zombie, but it could at least keep it from bothering her for the time being. Ye Xi ignored the zombie on the ground, grabbed a key from the cashier's desk, and rushed to the corresponding room, dealing with the zombies wandering in the hallway in the same way.

Ye Xi found the room, rushed in, and locked the door before letting out a sigh of relief. The keys at the front desk were for unoccupied rooms, so there was no need to worry about zombies appearing in the rooms. However, this wasn't exactly a safe place. Ye Xi simply took a deep breath and then headed to the bathroom with the speed and efficiency she used to demonstrate during military training.

Closing the bathroom door, Ye Xi immediately saw the mirror. Her eyes widened, and anger and humiliation surged within her. Trembling, she raised her left hand to touch her left cheek, where the black "01" was so conspicuous, so deeply etched into her heart. A small, rectangular, hard object was so clearly visible, located between the "0" and "1" numbers. Although it was invisible to the naked eye and caused no discomfort, it was there, just beneath the surface.

The experimental questions were numbered... Haha, they were stamped like a piece of pork... "Wesker, you're ruthless..." Ye Xi braced her hands on either side of the sink, staring intently at the mark on her left cheek. If she wasn't mistaken, this thing allowed Wesker to easily obtain her location and various physical information! And this thing was on her cheek, in a place she could see!

If Ye Xi had the courage, she could cut off her skin to remove the chip and rid herself of this humiliating scar. Then, she could use the T-virus to heal herself, and her left cheek would be completely intact, freeing her from Wesker's shadow. But—just as Wesker had predicted—Ye Xi didn't have the courage to do that!

Ye Xi fought back tears, took off her clothes, and turned on the shower, trying to calm herself down with the cold water. It's alright, Ye Xi. Although he controlled your actions, he didn't intend to capture you, did he? If that's the case, with Ivesk's immense power, could you still escape that base in Japan? Perhaps my situation is similar to Alice's… not now, but what about later? Maybe later, when I have a strong heart, I can… peel off this skin…

Ye Xi, you're so useless! Ye Xi smiled bitterly to herself, then began to wash her entire body.

After everything was in order, Ye Xi tossed her hair, glanced at the large patch of red gathered by the door and the cracked door, and wisely looked out the window. "God, please let Peter Parker possess me and guide me safely to the other room." Ye Xi took a deep breath by the window, then stepped onto the windowsill. Before she could even lean out, a gunshot rang out, freezing her in place.

Guns = Weapons = Increased Survival Rate!

A series of equations flashed through Ye Xi's mind. She immediately jumped from the windowsill into the room, grabbed a stool in one hand and opened the door with the other, then quickly smashed the wooden stool at the zombie in the doorway. Ye Xi showed no mercy to the zombie, so after the wooden chair fell apart, a path was finally cleared in the doorway.

Ye Xi picked up the bloodstained clothesline by the door, her eyes turning cold. Normally, she would have wanted to retreat at the sight of hordes of zombies, but now it was different. After seeing the monstrous boss, would you still care about those fast-respawning level 1 mobs? By the way, you also have a self-healing ability.

Fourteen-year-old Ribbitt Anson thought it was going to be a happy and perfect vacation. He and his six-year-old sister Erica, accompanied by their father, visited their grandmother in Georgia and also made a side trip to Florida, the Sunshine State. While playing beach volleyball on the beach, he never imagined that a mere layover at Howardville Airport on their return journey would lead to such a disaster!

"The virus is under control! The vaccine is developed! It's all a lie! If it weren't for that, how could Dad have become... become like that?!" Ribitt hugged his sister tightly, his trembling hand still clutching the pistol his father had given him before he was bitten to death by those damned lunatics. To protect his only sister, he had fired at those insane lunatics. God knows how much courage it took for him to do that, but those lunatics... those lunatics weren't afraid of the gun in his hand at all, they just kept getting closer to them!

Ribit's trembling hands could barely hold the black pistol. He knew the consequences of being bitten by those madmen. Although he was terrified, he still held his sister tightly, straightened his back, and tried to make his sister feel that he was a reliable man.

They had reached the end of the corridor; there was no way back. Ribit was in despair, and his sister's helpless cries only intensified his guilt. "No...don't come any closer!" Ribit screamed, firing another shot, hitting one of the madmen in the leg. He fell, but immediately crawled towards them, seemingly oblivious to the pain!

His father's words still seemed to echo in his ears, but he couldn't protect his sister... As the group of lunatics drew closer, Ribit lowered the arm that had been holding the pistol, turned his back to them, and hugged his sobbing sister, waiting for the darkness to fall...

To his surprise, he didn't feel pain, but instead heard a muffled thud. Ribitt, his eyes red, stared blankly at the corpse he had been lying on, its shattered skull and blood splattered everywhere, crimson mixed with specks of white fluid, staining his trousers. A wave of nausea washed over him, but Ribitt, pale-faced, forced himself to stand, shielding his sister's eyes with one hand and trying to appear calm. However, his legs gave way, and he nearly fell, but luckily a hand caught his arm.

A hand?! Ribitt was immediately startled and flung the hand away, clutching his sister and warily waiting for the person in front of him. He was astonished to find that she was a seemingly frail Eastern woman. Her tight-fitting sportswear made her appear exceptionally thin, as if a gust of wind could topple her. Long black hair framed her slightly pale face, and the number 01 tattoo seemed completely out of place with her appearance. Despite a faint smile, her eyes were cold and piercing, sending a chill down Ribitt's spine.

"You have the gun?" she asked, her cold voice pulling Ribbit out of his daze.

"Who are you?" Ribit still covered his sister's eyes, his light gray eyes fixed on the woman in front of him, as if afraid that she might make a move.

"The person who saved you." Seeing Ribit's wary expression, a flicker of amusement crossed her eyes, and her tone softened slightly. She was about to approach the two terrified children when the boy suddenly drew his gun, stopping her in her tracks. "Don't come any closer!" he yelled. "If you come any closer, I'll shoot!"

“Alright,” she smirked, then held up her hands to show him the blood-stained, deformed pole she held; its original form was clearly a clothesline pole. She then released it, letting it fall freely to the ground. “I pose no threat to you.”

"You're kidding me!" Ribit yelled. The narrow corridor was littered with corpses, their skulls shattered, almost completely covering it! How could an ordinary person kill so many people with a clothesline pole? This woman… this woman is even more terrifying than those lunatics!

Hearing this, the woman blinked, then her eyes filled with laughter. "I said, aren't you just kids?" she said softly, then, to the boy's astonishment, she flashed in front of him, grabbed his hand and twisted it, and the gun, which he hadn't been holding properly, fell into her grasp.

"If you're not prepared to kill, don't point a gun at someone lightly; the consequences could be fatal," she said coldly, her voice regaining its previous chilling edge. A glint of cold light flashed in her eyes, so fast that Ribit could barely catch it. "I'm Ye Xi. Although I don't have a penchant for saving people, what can I do when you have something I need? I think you might have heard the airport announcement that I need to go to the VIP lounge. Are you going?"

The boy stared intently at Ye Xi without saying a word, but his little sister tugged at him and cried out, her small voice filled with fear: "Brother... this sister Ye Xi saved us..."

The boy glanced at his sister, his gaze softening slightly, then glared at Ye Xi before awkwardly saying, "Ribbit Anson, this is my sister Erica. If you dare to hurt her, I'll fight you to the death!"

Honestly, this child, how can she treat her savior like this? Tsk, I was just asking casually, I didn't expect her to actually cling to me… Ye Xi, you're so foul-mouthed, why are you acting like a saint with two burdens on your shoulders?! You already have enough trouble of your own, and you're still so soft-hearted? You'll be killed by your own awkward personality sooner or later! Ye Xi despised herself, sighed, but said nothing, simply picked up the deformed clothesline from the ground, and strode outside…

Author's Note: This is an original story about a brother and sister, so you don't need to remember who they are. Actually, Uncle Wei is quite possessive~ Look, he's already stamped it~~ (smirk). So, Ye Xi's future path is destined to be bumpy (shrug). So, I'm still asking for comments, support, long reviews, etc. I don't mind at all~~~~ (twist)
