☆ Waiting, unexpected

☆ Waiting, unexpected

For the next two months, Wesker didn't inject Ye Xi, partly to prevent her right eye from healing and allowing her to use that power again, and partly, and most importantly, to prevent her from escaping. No one could accurately understand the O virus, including Ye Xi. Who knew what might happen after obtaining the T virus that would make the O virus even more powerful? After all, for Wesker, caution was paramount. However, this was only theoretical; his true purpose might not even be known to Wesker himself.

Perhaps Ye Xi was truly afraid this time. After that incident, when Wesker re-entered the white room—which contained only a bed and medical equipment—he easily saw Ye Xi trembling and cowering in the corner. Her already slender frame looked even more pitiful and helpless as she curled up, like a frightened little animal, not daring to look at Wesker. Seeing this, Wesker paused at the door for a few seconds before turning and leaving.

After that, he never went to that room again, nor did he ever turn on the monitor or speaker in his office again.

There was no longer that look in Ye Xi's eyes. Wesker could never forget the look in her eyes that time—perhaps resentment, perhaps anger, perhaps mockery… Her eyes contained far too many things that Wesker might never understand in his lifetime. But when he saw her again, that unyielding, stubborn gaze was gone, leaving only the cowardice and fear he loathed most.

He had personally extinguished that gaze, but Wesker wouldn't regret it. For his plan, for that perfect O virus, he had never felt regret. Well, if the incredible pain in his chest represented regret, then perhaps he would. But so what? For Wesker, whose reason far outweighed his emotions, those weakening fluctuations could be discarded like trash.

You could call him cold and ruthless, but remember, from the very beginning, when he was chosen by Umbrella as part of "Project Wesker" and separated from his biological parents, he ceased to possess any semblance of human emotion. As for those two parents who brought him into this dark world, whom humans called sweetly yet disgustingly, he had long since forgotten them. To Wesker, they were no different from the instruments that made the machine.

No one is born a superhuman monster, and Wesker was no exception. He had long forgotten his original surname, only remembering that his first name was something like Albert. The Wesker Project was conceived as a springboard for Spencer's original virus project, the very project of Umbrella's founder. Wesker, chosen as a test subject from a young age due to his exceptional talent—the Wesker Children—stood out among numerous competitors, eliminating other "Weskers," and gradually became the Albert Wesker he is today.

Oh, speaking of Spencer, Wesker had almost forgotten the old man's face. Although Wesker himself had ripped out his fragile, aged heart, that was over a year ago. He believed the T-virus could elevate humanity to a higher race, and he wanted to become the god of the new world. He was undeniably clever; even Wesker himself had been tricked by this creator multiple times. But what good was cleverness? With his frail body, so weak it would fall over in a breeze, how could he possibly lead humanity to a higher level? How naive! Desire always leads humanity astray; this is the essence of human weakness.

The new world has no need for the weak, much less for naive dreamers.

The experiment wasn't as perfect as expected. The traces of the O virus seemed to have completely vanished from Ye Xi's body; there was absolutely no indication that she was different from others. The O virus was too cunning and too adept at disguising itself. Wesker was certain that if the T virus were injected into Ye Xi's body, the O virus would suddenly reappear, just as swiftly and unbelievably as it had disappeared. But that was impossible. Wesker didn't want to give Ye Xi any opportunity to enhance her power; it was a special kind of confinement, a form of punishment.

As for what punishment will be imposed, Wesker probably doesn't understand it right now.

"Sir." A knock sounded at the door. A man in a white overcoat nervously adjusted his suit tie. If it weren't for the personal orders from this high-ranking, ruthless, and terrifying superior officer—that any special circumstances concerning the test subject must be reported to him in person—he wouldn't have come here, to this place that others would avoid at all costs.

"Come in." A deep, eerily quiet voice came from inside the door, making him swallow hard. He then cautiously pushed open the door and took a few stiff steps. Even though they weren't face-to-face in the video, he could still feel the officer's imposing presence. Now, at such close range, he felt breathless. Perhaps that's an exaggeration, but Wesker's imposing, unyielding aura still made him shudder, stopping after only two steps.

The man suddenly felt a deep admiration for the Chinese woman named Ye Xi. He had heard that when she first woke up and found Commander Wesker beside her, she seemed to have charged forward fiercely. It was truly unimaginable what kind of immense power resided within her frail body, allowing her to completely disregard Commander Wesker's intimidating presence and openly provoke him!

The room was dimly lit, with a chilly atmosphere. Wesker hadn't turned on the lights. In the dim light, the man seemed to see a huge desk and a massive leather chair behind it, its back to him. "What is it? I remember saying there's nothing important you can't contact me about. I hope you still cherish your lowly, incompetent life." A deep, slightly hoarse voice came from behind the chair, as if the air itself had been frozen by its sound.

The man in white spoke immediately, afraid that if he hesitated even for a second, Wesker would blow his head off without him noticing. "It's about Subject 01!" He paused because he saw Wesker turn around.

“Speak,” he said, gesturing for the man to speak. But the man didn't feel any more relaxed; instead, he became even more nervous. He had long heard that Commander Wesker valued Subject 01 extremely highly, and now it seemed the rumors were true, perhaps even more so! If he told Commander Wesker about Subject 01's current condition, would this capricious man take his anger out on him and tear him to shreds?!

But if he didn't speak up, his entire household register, and even anyone related to him, would likely lose their lives! The man in white struggled to keep his trembling voice where it should be, whispering, "Subject 01 has experienced a sudden emergency. Her face remains ashen, her body is convulsing, and she's constantly vomiting blood. Her recently healed right eye wound has suddenly reopened and is bleeding profusely, yet the instruments show she's perfectly healthy, no different from a normal person..." The man's voice trailed off, finally fading away, because he could feel the piercing, knife-like gaze behind the man's sunglasses, a gaze that seemed to want to slice him to pieces!

"What was injected to cause this condition?" Compared to Wesker's terrifying gaze, his voice was unhurried, as if he was not worried about the terrible condition of the so-called Subject 01.

"Wha...nothing, sir! She suddenly..." The man almost collapsed to his knees, but his last shred of reason told him to hold on, otherwise...

"When did this happen?" Wesker asked, his voice still calm.

"Just... just an hour ago..." the man stammered, then suddenly everything went black. The nerves in his back sent a sharp pain to his head, and a metallic taste rose up from his esophagus. With a "whoosh," warm liquid came out of his mouth.

Wesker appeared before him like a ghost, the oppressive feeling of impending death nearly making him faint. "You know why I didn't kill you." The man's voice now sounded like the smile of death to him. The next second, death vanished, leaving only the sound of coughing blood in the empty room.

He's a professor of pharmacy, and his position in this division is currently irreplaceable, which is why Wesker hasn't killed him. However, this doesn't mean Wesker will let him off the hook. If a replacement can be found, then… if something happens to Subject 01, a whole host of people involved will die…

Wesker arrived at the lab door in an instant, and the scene before him almost made him crush the door frame – he didn’t see the weak Ye Xi lying on the cold operating table, nor did he see the busy researchers surrounding Ye Xi. He only saw five people lying haphazardly on the ground, and the bloody holes between their eyebrows clearly told him that they were all dead.

"Hmph, at least she has some brains..." Wesker strode confidently to the bloodstained bed, picked up a spent cartridge case, and the next second, it turned to dust on his phone. Escaping under such dire circumstances was no easy feat. Perhaps he had underestimated Ye Xi's abilities, but did she really think her battered body could escape his grasp? Wesker scoffed and turned to leave the room.

Chaos erupted in the monitoring hall. Just twenty minutes earlier, Subject 01, who was under surveillance, had been coughing up blood in a terrifying manner, but then, as if by magic, a gun appeared and blew five people's heads off. Before the people in front of the monitors could even react in surprise, all the monitor screens went black, and the subject with the gun vanished from their sight—all the monitoring circuits had short-circuited simultaneously!

Well, perhaps this wasn't the most terrifying thing for them. The newly appointed security supervisor, only ten minutes into his post, wiped the sweat from his brow. Just ten minutes ago, he was merely a deputy supervisor. If it weren't for the bloodied hole in the temple of that once robust and vigorous security supervisor, he might still be one of many deputy supervisors. "Perhaps the former supervisor's body isn't even cold yet," the security supervisor thought to himself, a shiver running down his spine as he unconsciously glanced at his superior, dressed in black and wearing sunglasses, standing in the middle of the hall. There were still four deputy supervisors left, and he absolutely didn't want to become the next, still-warm corpse, to be replaced by one of those four.

"I'm sorry, sir, please give us a little more time. Although we don't know how she caused these short circuits, we've done our best to repair them and have even sent additional personnel to search for her. Although the terrain here is quite complex, please believe me, we have the advantage in understanding the terrain." The security supervisor pleaded, though the man standing in the lobby staring at the giant screen remained silent and expressionless. He felt that if he didn't do something soon, he would become the one lying in a pool of blood.

Wesker glanced at him indifferently, noticing his anxious expression and trembling body. His previous contempt for humans turned cold. "Didn't your human brain ever consider that, since she decided to run away, she would leave you a way out?" Wesker sneered. "You underestimate her too much."

Yes, Wesker, who had known Ye Xi for nearly three years, knew her all too well. While she couldn't be called exceptionally intelligent, her plans were always meticulously crafted and perfectly executed, whether it was her previous attempts to evade zombies or humans, or this current escape. She wouldn't leave anyone a way out, including herself.

A piercing sound suddenly came from the loudspeaker, followed by a clear voice, barely concealing exhaustion. "Moshi moshi? Can you hear me, everyone?" As the voice rang out, the static-filled screen finally displayed a normal image. It was a delicate yet frail face. The black "01" number stood out starkly against her pale cheeks. A red gauze covered her right eye, while her undamaged left eye was filled with a mocking smile. Her white robe billowed in the wind, and under the starry sky, she appeared exceptionally small, yet exceptionally powerful, standing atop the tall building.

“That’s the puppet building on top of our building! Sir, do you need me to send someone…” The security chief immediately asked, but was interrupted by Wesker’s gesture of raising his hand, and slowly swallowed the rest of his words.

"Hello everyone, I am Ye Xi. I think you probably all know me—as the No. 01 test subject, and—" On the screen, a bright smile appeared on her pale face, and her left eye sparkled like the starry sky, "and, as my good partner for the past three years, A-Quan, or rather the O virus, or more precisely, Albert Wesker."

Author's Note: This chapter is mostly about Uncle Wei. I hope I haven't ruined his image... Okay, if I have, please ignore it... OJZ I'm currently trying my best to make you all forget about Uncle Er Gou from the movie OJZ Actually, if you want to think about how Uncle Wei/A-Quan kept telling Ye Xi to stay away from people, Ethan, and Nikola Carlos... or how he suddenly appeared to ruin the atmosphere because he was jealous? ↑ Please don't take it seriously because just thinking about it makes me cringe OJZ Okay, what if I said that Ye Xi actually knew all along that A-Quan was Uncle Wei and had been pretending and waiting for you guys? Would the Overlords appear? (Starry eyes)
